Cardinals and Royals Named One Of MLB's Most Heated Rivalries
The St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals were recently named one of the matchups to watch as the MLB approaches Rivalry Week according to ESPN.

Rivalry Week is an exciting idea implemented by the league this season, designed to highlight the competitive nature of in-state and division matchups that might not always be on the national radar. The league has made it a priority to celebrate these rivalries and bring more attention to teams that have the potential for great drama on the field, and the Cardinals-Royals rivalry is one that MLB is hoping will continue to grow.
The teams first met in the 1985 World Series where the Royals won in seven games to bring the World Series to Kansas City for the first time. The 1985 World Series remains a key moment in both franchises' histories, with Kansas City's first championship creating lasting memories, but also leaving a competitive chip on the Cardinals' shoulder. It wasn't until August 29, 1997, that the teams met in the regular season.
Per ESPN's post, the rivalry could likely root from Mizzou. So many instate students from Kansas City and St. Louis go to Mizzou and it sits in between the two cities. The added element of Mizzou alumni and fans fueling the rivalry on both sides of the state adds a new dynamic, making it more personal for fans who see these matchups as a reflection of the pride they have for their cities.

Overall, St. Louis holds a 76-52 regular season record against Kansas City, but the Royals are pushing back, having won three of the four meetings from last season.

With both teams on hot streaks, the rivalry will be a fun one to watch in the MLB over the weekend, and the excitement surrounding these matchups is sure to continue growing. Fans from both cities are already bracing for the intensity that's bound to follow in the coming seasons.

Dodgers Can Save Yankees' Troubled Star Closer With New Contract: Insider
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. As two of the oldest and most popular franchises in the history of Major League Baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees have a lot in common. Last year, that meant a trip to the last World Series, where the Dodgers came out on top. And since then, the two teams have also shared some disappointment in their star bullpen additions. This past winter, the Dodgers signed All-Star relievers Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates only to see their relief corps collectively struggle all season. And the Yankees traded for award-winning closer Devin Williams, who has fallen short as well. "Williams was supposed to shore up the ninth inning and give New York a dependable, elite option at the end of games," MLB insider Robert Murray wrote for FanSided. "Instead, the right-hander has posted a 5.60 ERA in 49 games this season and has bounced between the ninth inning and low-leverage situations." NEW YORK, NEW YORK - APRIL 25: Devin Williams #38 of the New York Yankees reacts after he is pulled from the game in the ninth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium... NEW YORK, NEW YORK - APRIL 25: Devin Williams #38 of the New York Yankees reacts after he is pulled from the game in the ninth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium on April 25, 2025 in the Bronx borough of New York City. The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 4-2. (Photo) More Elsa/Getty The Yankees acquired Williams in his final year of arbitration eligibility and now he is headed to free agency with virtually no chance of returning to the Bronx and in serious desperation for a bounce-back campaign. As a result, Murray projected that the reliever is in line for a short-term deal and listed the Dodgers as a team that "could embarrass" the Yankees "by saving Devin Williams' career in free agency." "Williams is highly likely to sign a one-year contract to re-establish his value, and what better place to do that than the Dodgers?" Murray asked. "They have a history of signing relievers to one-year contracts. They have shown previous interest in Williams. Maybe that's a partnership the two sides could revisit this offseason?" The Dodgers were linked to Williams alongside the Yankees this past winter and if they believe his struggles have more to do with the pressure of pitching in New York rather than anything physical, they could take a chance on him in Los Angeles. With some lasting need in the bullpen and a penchant for star players, the fit makes sense. More MLB: Yankees Predicted to Finally Cut Ties With Devin Williams This Month, Admit Mistake
