Hussein Fahmy from Cannes: Hollywood No Longer Global Cinema Sole Hub
Renowned actor Hussein Fahmy, President of Cairo International Film Festival, took part in a distinguished panel discussion titled "From Hollywood to Cairo: Bridging the American and Egyptian Film Industries", held as part of Egypt's official pavilion program at the Marché du Film during Cannes Film Festival 2025.
The session explored potential avenues for collaboration between filmmakers in Egypt and the United States, focusing on joint projects that could drive transformative shifts in the independent film landscape and foster new opportunities for cultural and production exchange.
In his remarks, Fahmy emphasized that Hollywood is no longer the sole epicenter of global cinema, citing rising competition from major markets such as China, which is now producing innovative and advanced cinematic models. He added that Egypt is actively seeking to expand its cinematic partnerships across Asian, African, and European markets in pursuit of broader creative cooperation and international openness.
Egypt's pavilion is jointly organized by Cairo International Film Festival, El Gouna Film
Festival, and the Egypt Film Commission (EFC), with a mission to position Egypt as a unique global filming destination and a fully integrated production hub. The initiative also supports emerging Egyptian talent through interactive panels and networking events that foster connections with leading figures in the global film industry.
This session stands out as one of the key highlights of Egypt's participation this year, shedding light on the vast potential Egypt offers as an emerging destination on the global production map.

Ali abo deshish As part of the final preparations for its official opening on November 1, 2025, the Grand Egyptian Museum will be temporarily closed from October 15 to November 4, 2025. Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, stated that during this period, the museum will carry out a range of organizational and logistical arrangements in readiness for the grand opening ceremony. He added that the museum will resume receiving visitors on November 4 during regular opening hours, a date that coincides with the 103rd anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of the Golden King, Tutankhamun, offering visitors a complete and enhanced cultural experience. It is worth noting that the museum has been operating on a trial basis in certain sections since October 16 last year. Actor Amr Youssef's newest film, 'Darwish,' has topped the Egyptian box office on its opening day, Wednesday. The film grossed approximately LE2.125 million from a sale of 13,500 tickets. 'Darwish' is written by Wessam Sabry and directed by Walid al-Halafawy. It features a star-studded cast including Amr Youssef, Dina al-Sherbiny, Tara Emad, Mostafa Gharieb, Mohamed Shahin, Khaled Kamal, and Ahmed Abdel Wahab. UNRWA: Extreme heat worsens Gaza's already dire situation
Amir haggag The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Thursday of the dire impact of the extreme heat wave on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, given the limited resources needed to mitigate the heat. UNRWA said in a post on its X platform that "temperatures in Gaza are exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, making an already dire situation even worse."
