PM Anwar receives courtesy call from Siti Nurhaliza
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today received a courtesy visit from Biduanita Negara Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin and discussed various topics related to the arts.
Anwar said the courtesy call, held at his office in Putrajaya, was also attended by Siti Nurhaliza's husband, Datuk Seri Khalid Mohamad Jiwa, who represented Yayasan Nurjiwa.
'Various topics were discussed, including the crucial role that Siti Nurhaliza can play in educating and serving as a role model for today's young entertainers and artistes.
'We also touched on the importance of diversity in artistic performances so that they are always relevant to the changing times and the needs of the new generation,' he posted on Facebook.
Last year, the country's number one singer received the 2024 Biduan Negara Award at the National Art Awards (ASN) ceremony, becoming the third woman to be given the honour after the late Puan Sri Saloma in 1978 and the late Datuk Sharifah Aini in 2006.
Siti Nurhaliza first ventured into the entertainment industry in 1995 and throughout her involvement, she has won over 300 awards from within and outside the country, including 42 awards at the Music Industry Award; Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (25); Anugerah Planet Music (28); MTV Asia Award (four) as well as the Malaysia Book of Records recognition twice.
She has also recorded more than 200 songs in 20 albums, held over 60 concerts locally and internationally and was listed as one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World as well as having held a solo concert at London's Royal Albert Hall in 2005.

Fahmi Reza to sue government over ‘travel ban'
Graphic artist and activist Fahmi Reza yesterday claimed an immigration officer informed him that Bukit Aman had denied him clearance to travel overseas. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Graphic artist and activist Fahmi Reza says he will sue the government after being barred from travelling abroad, despite there being no official travel ban against him. Fahmi made the decision after Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Razarudin Husain today said there was no travel ban on Fahmi, who was prevented from flying to Singapore yesterday. Fahmi yesterday claimed an immigration officer informed him that Bukit Aman had denied him clearance to travel overseas. 'No one in the government has taken responsibility for restricting my right to travel,' said Fahmi in a statement today. 'You say there was no official ban — but I was still prevented from leaving the country. My time and money were wasted, and now you're passing the buck.' Fahmi criticised the authorities, saying they are quick to prosecute citizens but unwilling to be held accountable themselves. 'This time, the people will take the government to court,' he added. Earlier today, Razarudin clarified that the police did not issue a travel ban against Fahmi and said the incident was the result of a 'misunderstanding' during a border check. Separately, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he had instructed the police to investigate the matter, adding that the government supports individual freedom — as long as national security and laws are not compromised. Fahmi, known for his politically charged illustrations, was stopped at KLIA Terminal 2 yesterday while trying to board a flight to Singapore to attend a punk rock concert.

National Youth Day celebration to showcase elements of Asean
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Youth Day (HBN) celebration on June 13-15 will be unique as it will showcase elements of Asean, in line with Malaysia's Chairmanship of Asean 2025. The HBN secretariat said the programme for the celebration at Dataran Merdeka includes the Asean Pavillion and Asean Concert to create the spirit of the Asean community and strengthen the culture of Asean countries among the youth. "The role of youth is seen as vital to strengthening Asean's regional network, particularly future collaborations in the fields of economy, leadership, education, technological innovation and social. In fact, youth can also act as junior ambassadors who can elevate the country's image globally,' it said in a statement. Themed "Yakin Boleh' (Believe You Can), the highlight of the 61st HBN celebration will be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will officiate the event and present the 2025 National Premier Youth Award (APBN) on June 14. "The theme illustrates the confidence, capability and competitiveness of the youth in facing challenges, including that of the current digital era. This theme also aligns with the Madani government's efforts to empower youths through various strategic initiatives as well as the values of confidence within the Madani framework,' it added. With the targeted presence of 4 million visitors, the Youth and Sports Ministry, through the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN), has activated the HBN celebration at the grassroots level by implementing the Semarak HBN initiative in 113 districts nationwide since May 15. At the national level, the Semarak HBN initiative has been further enlivened by the inclusion of the National Youth Convention; eSports games and activities; career and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) carnivals; as well as programmes on fitness, leadership, arts, music and culture and awareness of mental health and cyberbullying. Other programmes include the Suara Belia (Voice of the Youth) podcast; the recitation of the Malaysian Youth Pledge at various levels; the 2025 HBN Special Islamic Affairs Premier Forum; and the implementation of Special Friday sermons nationwide through the collaboration of the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) and State Islamic Religious departments. "Conceptualised as a festival and based on 15 segments/ports, it is an initiative with a 'youth for youth' approach that is designed to meet the needs and wants of today's youth. This structured programme is also based on the 10 elements of the Rakan Muda lifestyle,' the HBN secretariat added.- Bernama
