Stranger Things creators step away from Netflix ahead of season 5 release, sign deal with Paramount

The Duffer Brothers, known for crafting one of the most beloved web shows of recent times – Stranger Things – will be stepping away from Netflix. Matt and Ross Duffer have signed a four-year deal with Paramount Global and its parent company Skydance, marking the end of their long-term partnership with Netflix.
According to Variety, the Stranger Things creators have entered into a contract with Paramount for 'ambitious' and 'large-scale theatrical films,' as well as television and streaming projects. Their new deal with Paramount will begin after their contract with Netflix ends in April 2026. However, as reported by Deadline, the brothers will continue to remain involved in the Stranger Things franchise and its spinoffs, including the upcoming shows The Boroughs and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.
The Duffer Brothers expressed excitement about this new career endeavor. They told Variety, 'We couldn't be more thrilled to be joining the Paramount family. To be part of that mission is not just exciting – it's the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. And to do so at a studio with such a storied Hollywood legacy is a privilege we don't take lightly.'
The duo also reunited with Cindy Holland, Paramount's new head of streaming. Cindy, who previously served as VP for Original Content at Netflix before joining Paramount, had greenlit Stranger Things on Netflix. They have also reconnected with Matt Thunell, president of Paramount Television, who collaborated with them during their time at Netflix.
Speaking about reigniting these earlier associations at Paramount and how it will help them take their vision forward, the brothers said, 'We're also excited to reunite with our friends Cindy [Holland] and Matt [Thunell], who were among the very first to believe in us and an unusual little script we wrote that became 'Stranger Things.' They took a chance on us in 2015, and they're taking a chance again – we can't wait to create new stories together.'
The Duffer Brothers are currently focused on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, which will release in three parts in November. The hit Netflix series stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, and Charlie Heaton in lead roles.

Shah Rukh Khan introduces ‘hardworking, good boy' Aryan as he apologises in anticipation: ‘Please forgive me, this is my first time'

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan introduced his son Aryan Khan to the world as a filmmaker on Wednesday. The occasion was the official preview of Aryan's debut directorial venture, the Netflix series The Ba***ds of Bollywood, held at Mumbai's iconic Yash Raj Studios. The event was a star-studded affair with the entire principal cast and crew in attendance. Shah Rukh Khan himself played host for the evening, infusing the proceedings with his signature wit and self-deprecating humour. Introducing the world of the show, which appears to be a meta tribute to the madness of Bollywood's showbiz culture, Shah Rukh set the tone for what promises to be an irreverent ride. However, the evening's most heartfelt moment came when Shah Rukh introduced his son to the public for the first time as a director. Visibly emotional and on the verge of tears, the actor said: 'I'm deeply grateful to the sacred land of Mumbai, to this country, which has given me 30 years to try and entertain you. Today is a very special day, because on this very same land, my son is now taking his first step. He's a very good boy, as all fathers believe about their sons, and he's hardworking. At home, we've only taught him a few things: box office success isn't guaranteed, nor are positive reviews from critics. But giving your 100% through hard work, that's the one guarantee you can control. So today, when he stands before you, please clap for him. But along with those claps, send him a small prayer too. And like I've said before, the love you've given me over the years, even if he receives just 10, 20, 30, 40, 50% of that, if it were anyone else, I would have stopped right there. But if he's lucky enough to get 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, even 150%, of that love, please give it to him.' 'This is the first time I'm coming on stage in front of all of you. So I've been practising this speech for the last 2–3 nights. In fact, I'm so nervous I even had it written on the teleprompter, and just in case there's a power outage, I've brought a hard copy in my pocket too! And if I still mess up, my dad is here. And if even after all that I make a mistake, please forgive me, this is my first time.' He went on to speak about the intent behind the show: 'With this show, the only intention was to entertain people all across the world. After four years of hard work, endless discussions, and thousands of takes, the show is finally ready.' Staying true to its unapologetically self-aware tone, The Ba***ds of Bollywood preview features cameo appearances from Bollywood heavyweights like Salman Khan, Karan Johar, and Ranveer Singh. Notably, Aryan Khan has also cheekily addressed his own jail time in the series. Set to premiere on September 18, the series stars Lakshya, Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Gautami Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Rajat Bedi in key roles. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, the show is created and directed by Aryan Khan, alongside co-creators Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan, all three also share writing credits.
