Police update on serious incident which has left one in hospital
Police are investigating reports a car deliberately drove at a man, leaving him needing hospital treatment.
Emergency services were called to Breightmet just before midnight to Goldrill Avenue.
The area was cordoned off until later this morning.
Police confirmed they have made an arrest
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We are investigating a serious assault on Goldrill Avenue which occurred shortly before 11.50pm last night (Friday 20 June 2025).
"It was reported that a car deliberately drove at the victim, causing an injury to his leg. He remains in hospital.
"A couple of vehicles parked in the area have also been damaged during the incident.
"A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of S18 assault and remains in our custody.
"Enquiries are ongoing."

One resident said: "I saw the police here at two in the morning, and I was woken up, but I've no clue what has gone on to be honest."
Cllr Adele Warren for the ward said she would be visiting residents in the area today following the incident.

Local reports suggested he was Azerbaijani but the UK Foreign Office said they were working with the authorities over the arrest of a Briton.

California man arrested after running down 'No Kings Day' marcher in Riverside
A 58-year-old convicted felon accused of intentionally driving into a crowd of protesters marching along a downtown Riverside street, seriously injuring one of them, pleaded not guilty Friday to felony charges, along with his girlfriend. Russell Alan Prentice and 39-year-old Candase Wenzel, both of Riverside, were arrested Monday following a Riverside Police Department investigation that began Saturday night. Prentice is charged with assault using a deadly weapon, hit-and-run and sentence-enhancing allegations of inflicting great bodily injury and leaving the victim comatose. Wenzel is charged with being an accessory after the fact. The defendants were jointly arraigned before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Melissa Hale, who scheduled a felony settlement conference for July 1 at the Riverside Hall of Justice. The pair are being held at the Robert Presley Jail —Prentice on $1 million bail, Wenzel on $10,000 bail. "From the officers in the field that night to our detectives who immediately launched the investigation, along with support from our Crime Analysis Unit, this case was solved quickly thanks to their combined efforts," police Chief Larry Gonzalez said Tuesday. "Equally important were the tips we received from our community, and we're grateful for the information they provided." Here's what to know about the case. Prentice was driving his SUV in the area of University Avenue and Orange Street shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday when he encountered marchers taking part in one of the many "No Kings" rallies that occurred nationwide. The organized events drew a variety of interests to denounce the Trump administration's immigration enforcement actions and other policies, timed to coincide with the 47th president's birthday. Police spokesman Officer Ryan Railsback alleged that Prentice floored his SUV, aiming directly for a number of demonstrators making their way along University, between Orange and Main streets. A young woman was unable to jump out of the vehicle's path and was struck. "The SUV then fled the scene," the police spokesman said. The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where she remained in critical but stable condition Friday. "Officers found the suspect vehicle's license plate number, and detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit began their investigation and subsequently identified the suspect driver," Railsback said. A search warrant was served at Prentice's residence on Jackson Street Monday afternoon, when the defendant was taken into custody without incident. "Detectives also arrested Wenzel ... for her role in taking the suspect vehicle to Phelan, intentionally destroying and concealing evidence," Railsback said. She was taken into custody at the same time and place as Prentice. He has documented prior felony convictions in another jurisdiction that weren't listed in court records. Four missing after Airmedic helicopter crash in northeastern Quebec: police
MONTREAL — Quebec provincial police launched a search operation Saturday after a helicopter crash in northeastern Quebec that left four people unaccounted for. They said the aircraft operated by Airmedic was involved in an accident around 10:30 p.m. on Friday near Natashquan, Que., a little more than 1,000 kilometres northeast of Montreal. Police planned to comb a wooded area in the region north of the community in the province's Côte-Nord region. Sgt. Élizabeth Marquis-Guy said five people were aboard the chopper, but one woman was rescued and reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She was taken to hospital. The four others remained missing on Saturday morning. Raphaele Bourgault, a spokesperson from the Longueuil, Que.-based air medical transport firm, confirmed the helicopter was part of the company fleet and said emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene. "Airmedic staff are working closely with authorities and first responders to manage the situation and provide the necessary assistance," Bourgault said in an emailed statement. "Airmedic will release further information as soon as it is confirmed." Bourgault said the company's thoughts and concerns are with those affected by the crash. Airmedic specializes in air medical transport and operates both planes and helicopters as part of its fleet. It is a private company that offers its services across Canada. A command post was set up and search specialists are on site and are capable of searching on the water as well as by ground and in the air. The Canadian Armed Forces have also been called for assistance, police said.
