
Scarlett Johansson-directed 'Eleanor the Great' opens Sept. 26
July 17 (UPI) -- Sony Pictures Classics has announced a Sept. 26 release date for Eleanor the Great. It is the first feature film directed by Scarlett Johansson.
Johansson previously directed a short and an American Express commercial. Eleanor stars June Squibb as the title character.
Eleanor Morgenstein is a 94-year-old woman who tells a tall tale. While speaking with UPI about her film Thelma, Squibb said Eleanor claims to have been in the Holocaust.
The film was previously called Eleanor, Invisible. It also stars Erin Kellyman, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jessica Hecht. Tory Kamen wrote the film.
The movie played at this year's Cannes Film Festival Un Certain Regard sidebar. Sony Pictures Classics and TriStar are partnering on it for the first time.
Johansson also produced with Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn. Additional production companies include Pinky Promise, Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray's Maven Screen Media, Justin Baldoni, Steve Sarowitz, Jamey Heath and Andrew Calof's Wayfarer Studios, Content Engineers and MacPac.
Johanson is currently in theaters in Jurassic World Rebirth.

'Eyes of Wakanda' to release Friday on Disney+

In the preview released Monday, viewers are introduced to Wakanda's network of secret spies who carry out important missions. Wakanda was introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther films. The four episodes in Eyes of Wakanda "follows the adventures of brave Wakandan War Dogs of the secret organization the Hatut Zeraze throughout history. In this globe-trotting adventure, they must carry out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts lost to the world," an official synopsis reads. The series is premiering than initially anticipated, Deadline reports, after it was scheduled to debut on Aug. 6, then Aug. 27. The voice cast includes Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Harry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint and Anika Noni Rose.

'The Gilded Age' renewed for Season 4 ahead of Season 3 finale

News of Season 4 arrives ahead of the Season 3 finale, set for release Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO Max. The third chapter in the series has seen 20% growth in premiere-night viewing over Season 2, a press release states. Season 3 follows Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) and her family as they are "poised to take their place at the head of society," an official synopsis reads. Her husband George (Morgan Spector) hopes to "revolutionize the railroad industry -- if it doesn't ruin him first." "Across the street, the Brook household is thrown into chaos as Agnes (Christine Baranski) refuses to accept Ada's (Cynthia Nixon) new position as lady of the house," the description continues. "Peggy (Denee Benton) meets a handsome doctor from Newport whose family is less than enthusiastic about her career." The cast also includes Louisa Jacobson, Taissa Farmiga, Harry Richardson, Blake Ritson, Ben Ahlers, Ashlie Atkinson, Dylan Baker, Kate Baldwin, Victoria Clark and more. "Every moment spent in this world and with these characters only deepens our love for the show," said Universal Television president Erin Underhill in a statement.
