Vernon Kay was left bemused after uncovering an old interview with Claudia Winkleman, who fronts Strictly Come Dancing with his wife Tess Daly .
The 51-year-old presenter unearthed the throwback clip during his BBC Radio 2 show, which featured a young Claudia discussing the art of flirting.
Listeners were in for a treat as Vernon announced: "It's time to dive into the BBC Archive for our midweek trip into the vault. We're taking our second visit to the '90s in recent days."
He continued, revealing Claudia's lesser-known past: "Back in 1996, Claudia Winkleman wasn't known as 'Claudia from Strictly', or 'Claudia from the Traitors', or 'National Treasure Claudia Winkleman'. No, no, no, no! For one of her first TV appearances, we saw a whole different side to our Claud.
"Long before Morning Live was around, we had Good Morning with Anne and Nick on BBC One with Claudia introduced as a 'Chat up expert'. This is genius."
After airing the segment where Claudia gave her take on flirtatious interactions, including a woman asking a man for a light and other cheeky chat-up lines, Vernon couldn't help but feign disgust.
Reflecting on how times have changed, he remarked: "It's always difficult isn't it? These days it's all done on an app, which is kind of sad, takes the human element out of it, do you know what I mean? Just swiping.
"There was an art to it, chatting to someone that you fancied. It was difficult, it was getting over that threshold of 'What can I say? What can I do?'."
In recent chats, Vernon has taken a nostalgic trip recalling times gone by. Sharing with his audience, he spoke about his youngest daughter's GCSE revisions, sparking memories of his own school days.
Vernon spoke about his and Tess' daughters Phoebe and Amber, revealing that the study period for 15-year-old Amber brought back sharp recollections.
He jokingly admitted: "Got GCSEs on the horizon...well, they're here. We've started ours, we're up and running. Of course, it's stressful. I remember my GCSEs...well, I don't...I'm lying, it was so long ago - 1990 I did mine. I remember sitting there thinking, 'Gosh, I wish I'd revised'. I'm not remembering anymore, it's making me depressed."
Vernon also shared his views on the pressures of academic assessments, commenting: "It's not the way education should be for me, more practical, playing out, hide and seek, I'd have got A+ in that. It's torturous for some kids, isn't it? If you've got who are going through GSCEs, just put your arm around them.
"There's nothing else they can do. There's no point cramming. You can cram all you want in your revision, which we all did, let's be honest, but you've just got to hold their hand haven't you? Guide them along, make sure they're alright between their ears, in their noggin."

Wynne Evans sends message of support to Strictly co-star suspended by BBC

Wynne Evans sends message of support to Strictly co-star suspended by BBC The opera singer said he wishes he had received the 'same fair treatment' Wynne Evans sent a message of support to fellow Strictly star Jamie Borthwick (Image: BBC) Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans has sent a message of support to his former Strictly co-star Jamie Borthwick after it was reported he would be returning to Eastenders after a three-month suspension from the soap. Borthwick was dropped from Albert Square for using a slur against people with disabilities during his stint on Strictly Come Dancing last year. ‌ Go Compare star Evans, 53, was dropped from the BBC in May after he apologised for using "inappropriate language" during the launch of the Strictly Come Dancing tour. ‌ He said it "broke his heart" that the BBC didn't renew his popular slot on BBC Radio Wales following the incident and has since hit out at the organisation for "taking his voice away". ‌ Posting on his Facebook page after the news about Borthwick's return to Eastenders was reported, Evans said: "Great news for Jamie." He then went on to reference his own relationship with the BBC, adding: "Obviously wish I had had the same fair treatment, but this is great for him." He also tagged BBC Radio Wales in the post. Earlier this week, it was announced that singer Bronwen Lewis would be Evans' replacement for the Radio Wales morning show. ‌ She said: "I am beyond excited and honoured to be given this incredible opportunity." For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . In July, Evans took to Instagram to speak out about his experience after the first photos of this year's Strictly professionals training for the show were released. He wrote: "What it feels like to see pictures of Strictly? I'll be the first to admit I've made mistakes. Not quite the way the Daily Mail would have you believe, but mistakes all the same. ‌ He accused the BBC of "lies and cover‑ups", adding: "The only thing they truly care about is protecting themselves and their jobs and Ratings - people come second. "When I first stepped into the rehearsal room at Strictly, I thought it would be a magical experience. And at the start, it was. But the very first thing I was told was: 'Don't trust anyone in this room — not even me. That hit me hard. I've always worn my heart on my sleeve, and while I may sometimes sail close to the line, there's never malice in what I do. "What I wasn't prepared for was the way people will protect their personal and BBC brands, at any cost." He added that he was left dealing with "twisted facts, invented files and dates" and "a version of events that simply wasn't true". ‌ He said: "Statements were issued in my name that I hadn't even seen, let alone agreed to. My voice was taken away. "Tim Davie publicly promised that the BBC would safeguard people who took part in Strictly. I thought about that promise while sitting in a psychiatrist's office near the BBC, staring out of the window at the BBC building, fighting to save my own life. That's how close I came to the edge. "I'm not writing this as a victim, as I said I will own my mistakes . I'm writing it because the system is broken. Strictly is now fundamentally flawed in its duty of care. It's allowed to continue because of ratings, while people's wellbeing is left in tatters. Article continues below "I've always believed in honesty, fairness and kindness. What I've learned is that institutions like the BBC or the Post Office believe only in self‑preservation. And until that changes, others will suffer and perhaps they won't come through the other side." At the time of the events, a BBC spokesperson said: "The apology issued on Wynne's behalf by the Strictly Come Dancing Tour PR representative on Saturday January 25 was fully approved by Wynne."

She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "Us women have fought to be so independent and strong and do our own thing, that it might send confusing messaging to them, like, 'Can I approach or can I not?' So, I totally understand why they're being hesitant sometimes, but I'm open and ready to be approached... ‌ "I might meet somebody today. You get up and you never know who you might meet. I've got to look nice... I'm always ready and open." ‌ The 36-year-old beauty is hoping to find someone to settle down and have children with, but that wouldn't mean giving up her career. ‌ She said: "I would like to have kids with someone who I believe could be a good father but I've got nieces I can spend my energy on right now, or some of my friends' children, like Janette[Manrara]. "Seeing how she does everything and is a mother as well is really inspiring. It just shows that you can do it all if you put your mind to it." ‌ Katya has considered freezing her eggs to preserve her fertility, but is ultimately hopeful she can have a family "naturally". She said: "I've spoken to women who have done it... I didn't hear about it until two years ago, which is quite surprising really. However, I still have faith in meeting someone naturally. That would be lovely." The Russian dancer was previously married to fellow Strictly pro Neil Jones for six years until 2019, and while he has moved on and had daughter Havana with fiancee Chyna Mills, he and Katya are still close. Article continues below She said: "We're absolutely still on good terms. We knew each other since we were 18 and started dancing. We lived a life together... it was me and him against the world, chasing our dreams. "We were the only people there for each other so of course there is a much more profound connection there. You can't just throw that away."

Celebrity SAS star needs surgery after ‘ripping' vulva in one of show's worst injuries

This series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Win s features one of the most excruciating – and arguably worst ever – injuries in the show's history, with X Factor star Lucy Spraggan revealing she tore her vulva. Singer Lucy opened up about the agonising injury ahead of the programme's continuation this weekend, explaining that she was left bleeding with a rip so severe that she is undergoing reconstructive surgery. The 34-year-old's wound was caused by a harness during a stunt and due to the level of bleeding and intensity of the show, she recalled her 'dignity had gone' when the doctor came over to inspect her. 'I ripped my labia – it was bad,' she told The Sun. 'That's not a common injury. Actually, genuinely, that's never been the same, so much so I'm having some surgery soon to correct it.' Revealing she didn't 'really know even what happened' to cause the tear, Lucy's best guess is simply that the harness 'was tight'. 'I was like: 'This feels really bad. Surely there can't be anything.' And I looked and there was a tear, there was lots of blood and the doctor came over and I turned around because at that point you literally don't care about anything. Dignity has gone,' she added. She also explained that the medic initially thought it was her leg that was bleeding before she corrected them. Horrific as that is, it's also not the only injury the star suffered during filming for the series as she also almost knocked a tooth out, fainted and landed face-first in the sea after attempting to jump from a helicopter into a boat. This left her with a black eye for her wedding day in June 2024 and forced her to have filler from under her eye dissolved after she 'hit the sea so hard my filler migrated to the side of my face'. Previous gruesome injuries from across the show's series include Geordie Shore star Marnie Simpson's breast implant becoming infected, Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks knocked himself unconscious and breaking ribs and former soap star Jennifer Ellison puncturing her spleen. Meanwhile Jake Quickenden was rushed into emergency surgery after tendons in his shoulder were 'ripped off the bone' and politician Matt Hancock infamously suffered from trench foot. The 2025 edition of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins kicked off in dramatic style this month, with two participants quitting during the opening episode. The famous faces were pushed straight into action as they were forced to plunge 26ft into the water and dash towards a speedboat to pick them up. This proved S Club star Hannah Spearritt 's undoing as, looking visibly ill ahead of the second task, she handed in her armband to the directing staff with the words: 'I'm done, I'm sorry, I've reached a point.' Following hot on her heels was TV dancer Louie Spence, for whom the second task – to rescue three hostages from a building before blowing it up with a grenade – pushed him a step too far and he quit. More Trending In the second episode, Love Island contestants Tasha Ghouri and Chloe Burrows, also voluntarily withdrew. Remaining participants being guided through gruelling challenges by the elite team of ex-Special Forces soldiers, Chief Instructor Billy Billingham and his team of Directing Staff (DS) – Foxy (Jason Fox), Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver – include Traitors winner Harry Clark, Rebecca Loos, Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon-Boulash, former Love Islander Adam Collard and former footballer Troy Deeney. This year's series was shot in Wales, the home of the first phase of SAS selection in real life. Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4. Got a story?
