The Delightful Days: Taken Over Special Research is a new chapter in the ongoing Team GO Rocket storyline in Pokémon GO, released during the Delightful Days: Taken Over event in August 2025.
If you have been patiently waiting to face Giovanni and rescue Shadow Giratina, then this is your mission-but it comes with a ticking clock.
You will have only until Tuesday, September 2, 2025, 9:59 a.m., local time, to claim this research, and it is only claimable if you currently do not have any Team GO Rocket Special Research assigned to you. This means if you have any unfinished storyline, such as Crown Clash: Taken Over, you will have to complete that first.
Why Does Timing Matter
The Shadow Legendary you rescue from Giovanni depends on when you finish the Special Research. Shadow Giratina is the reward for completing it during this event's active period, but if you delay until after the next Rocket lineup change, you may find yourself catching a different Shadow Pokémon.

Niantic makes official announcement on August Pokémon GO Incense compensation

Niantic has announced a new compensation period running a week as a consolation for a recently brought about frustration among players. The glitch, which took away from the Ultra Unlock Raid Day earlier this month, affected encounters triggered by Incense and Daily Adventure Incense. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now These are two important items on the go for trainers. The Issue: When Incense Went Cold The issue was brought to Niantic's attention on the 6th of August, when they tweeted from the official @NianticHelp account an acknowledgement of an "issue affecting Pokémon encounters after using an Incense." Players reported getting very few Pokémon or none at all, while Incense was active. The initial advice from Niantic was to restart the app. In some cases, the problem continued until Pokémon GO version 373.1 arrived on 8th August and fixed it. The update fixed the issue; though, the wave of missed catches and disturbed play sessions left users fuming. The Apology Package On August 12, Niantic announced an in-game compensation to thank players for their patience. From 12 p.m. on August 13, 2025, in each local time zone, to 11:45 p.m. on August 20, 2025, local time, all trainers will receive: Double Daily Adventure Incense duration (60 minutes instead of 30) Three free standard Incense items The bonuses will be automatically active in the game, so players can quickly jump into their celebrating routine. Incense is a huge item in Pokémon GO, mainly for players in rural areas or playing without roaming extensively. For hardworking trainers, losing out on an event window of a major Ultra Unlock Raid Day means losing time to garner precious Pokémon and rewarding experiences. No compensation can retrace away lost encounters; Niantic has given players another chance to chase down elusive spawns in the days to come. A Summer of Ups and Downs Pokémon GO has been in the pressurized space of big summer events, from the arrival of Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark to the evolution lines of Snom and Honedge. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Since the Pokémon GO Fest: Max Finale will threaten our calendars later this month, Incense glitch stands out as a rare blemish on an otherwise packed schedule. Such rapid acknowledgment and compensation have recently become the norm in the genre of live services, maintaining the goodwill of players when confronted by criticism through transparent communication and timely reward. For now, trainers, dust those Poké Balls off, burn some Incense, and get back to what you do best, catching them all.

Pokemon GO Delightful Days Taken Over Event schedule, features, bonuses and more

Image via: Niantic After a pretty calm summer season for Pokémon GO, the bad guys are back again with the week-long event of 'Delightful Days: Taken Over' from August 11 to August 17, 2025. The takeover is much worse than an inconvenience, as it brings with it new Shadow Pokémon, new Shiny releases, and a new Legendary raid that will surely receive high priority on the list of trainers' engagements. A Dark Arrival: Shadow Pokémon Debuts To end the domination, the main event of the takeover will be the Shadow Giratina fetching for kidnappers. These are not just candidates for the Pokédex; really keen battlers know that Shadow forms are best used as raid and PvP heavyweights, especially with some finely tuned move set tweaking during the event. DON'T MISS THIS SUPER IMPORTANT EVENT!! Pokémon GO Delightful Days Taken Over Explained! Legendary Waters, Kyogre's Shadow Raid Debut Adding to Giratina's ominous setting, Kyogre will be the center of attention at five-star raids on the 16th and 17th of August and trainers will be able to encounter its Shiny form for the first time. This isn't Shadow Kyogre, but it does give some urgency to raiders hunting rare Legendaries in the midst of the takeover. Lower-tier raids for that week offer this weird mix of nostalgia and collectability: One-star raids: Bellsprout, Aipom, Teddiursa, and Seedot, all with Shiny potential. Three-star raids: Girafarig, Absol (Shiny guaranteed), and Whirlipede for a tad bit more challenge. Leader Battles The Rocket Leaders are holding well onto the Johto nostalgia: Sierra has Totodile Cliff has Cyndaquil Arlo has Chikorita For trainers seeking Shiny starters, it is a great opportunity with concentrated encounters and guaranteed rewards for each win. Niantic has feasibly unleashed Shiny Salandit and Shiny Salazzle, making them available for the first time in earnest. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Yzberish: Unsold Furniture Liquidation 2024 (Prices May Surprise You) Unsold Furniture | Search Ads Learn More Undo Shadow Pokémon Alert!
