A BMW M4 won the 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours after a thrilling race

This year's Nürburgring 24 Hours delivered the goods: a record 280,000-strong crowd, 30-degree heat and 140 cars. Throw in an electrical outage, a penalty and many crashes into that mix, and you end up with a spectacular 24 hours of racing that ended with a BMW M4 on the top step of the podium.
The 4pm kick-off saw plenty of teams proceed with caution to avoid cooking their engines, particularly those in the lower classes. Underdogs Ollis Garage Racing and their hearty Dacia Logan stalled at the start, ending up in the pits after being cheered on by a lively crowd. You love to see it.

After just two hours, the race was halted due to said outage at the pit building. That meant no comms were available between drivers and their teams, and come nightfall, no lights anywhere along the track either. We suspect someone got a major telling off after that.
Anyway, the rogue fuse was found and fixed after another three hours, and racing resumed with the 911 GT3 R of Manthey Racing in the lead, followed closely by Falken Racing's 911, while behind them were various Aston Martin Vantages, Ford Mustangs, Lamborghini Huracans and Mercedes-AMG GTs. There was a lone Ferrari 296 GTB nestled in amongst the chasing pack, as well as the M4 of Rowe Racing. The latter started the race in 17th position after missing out on the final qualifying session, but managed to gain ground superbly. The Dacia also got back out onto the track at this point. That thing just doesn't give up, does it?
Dusk approached, and disaster struck for Team Falken. With a gap of around 10 seconds to Manthey, their #33 GT3 R had a head-on collision with a GT3 Cup at the Mercedes-Arena curves, having been tapped by an old 3 Series. Mercifully, no serious injuries were reported.

It was game over for Falken's lead car, and much-needed breathing space for Manthey, who stayed strong throughout the night shift and looked certain to cross the chequered flag as the winner. The Nürburgring, it seemed, had other ideas.
The heatwave picked back up as the cars headed into the afternoon stint, and 'Ring legend Kevin Estre was at the wheel for Manthey. As he wolfed down a backmarker Vantage, he dove onto the grass to pass and made contact, sending the Vantage into a flip. Officials deemed it a punishable offence, slapping a 100-second penalty on Manthey and Estre with only a few hours of racing to go.
The Rowe BMW garage went into a frenzy: they'd been making ground and staying consistent with their laps, eventually crossing the line a few seconds behind Manthey. But with the penalty attached, they'd won by a fair margin. Impressive, considering most BMW customer teams chose to rest their cars for the forthcoming Spa 24 Hours, so Rowe fielded the only M4 this year.
It means BMW has now wrestled bragging rights back from Audi, after it won the shortest-ever N24 last year. It is also BMW's first win at the event in five years, when Rowe claimed victory in 2020 with an M6 GT3.

Darwin Nunez has enjoyed a fruitful start to his Al-Hilal career, bagging two goals in his first two appearances. The striker, who managed 40 goals in 143 appearances for Liverpool, laced a volley into the roof of the net as his side concluded their pre-season trip to Germany. Nunez's prolific start to his Al-Hilal career may come as a surprise to Reds supporters, who watched the Uruguayan struggle in-front of goal during his time in Merseyside. In two of his three seasons at Liverpool, he ranked in the top three players in the league for big chances missed, with 21 in 2022-23 and 27 the following season. And in his final 22 appearances for Arne Slot's Premier League champions, Nunez managed a mere one goal as he pushed for a move away from Anfield. Slot and club bosses have gone about finding a new striker to lead their line this season. Not only have they forked out an initial £69m for Eintracht Frankfurt talent Hugo Ekitike, who scored in his competitive debut for the club over the weekend, but they're also pursuing a deal for Newcastle United talesman Alexander Isak. After having an initial bid of £110m rejected by The Magpies, the Reds are thought to be weighing up their second offer, which could reach a stunning £150m. Isak is thought to be 'adamant he will never represent Newcastle again', after reporting an injury to pull out of the club's pre-season tour of Asia. He later left Tyneside to build his fitness at the training ground of Real Sociedad, his former club. The Swede is now believed to be on strike, and is expected to be fined by the club if he doesn't appear for them in the first game of their league campaign at Aston Villa on Sunday. Volkswagen now charges some EV owners a monthly fee to unlock full power from their electric cars
If you thought paying a monthly subscription to the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube to avoid adverts was bad, Volkswagen is now charging a recurring fee to unlock the full power of customers' electric cars. The German automotive giant has added a monthly subscription to release the full performance from its cheapest Volkswagen ID.3 electric hatchback variants. Customers who order the entry-specification ID.3 Pure (£30,860) or ID.3 Pure Match (£32,220) - might believe they are getting their hands on an EV with 170kW (168bhp) of power. And rightfully so, because this is the output listed on the website. However, the small print states that models quoted to produce 170kW will instead be electronically limited to 150kW (148bhp) unless the owner pays a monthly subscription fee of £16.50. To put this into perspective, that's almost six times the ad-free upgrade for Amazon Prime Video and three times that to watch Netflix without adverts. Volkswagen is calling this performance paywall an 'optional power upgrade'. Though outraged customers could argue that it's part of an elaborate mis-selling tactic, given that the 170kW full amount is available from the electric powertrain. It could also become a major insurance headache, with drivers at the wheel of vehicles with less power than officially claimed. The small print states: 'Important information for new ID.3 orders: Engine power is 150kW as standard, 170kW if you activate the optional power upgrade for a fee.' 'Choice of one-month free trial or subscription (one month, one year or outright purchase for lifetime of car. 'See your In-car Shop or the Volkswagen Connect Shop for up to date pricing. 'Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of their term. 'Paid subscription for one month term starts automatically (after the free trial) unless cancelled.' According to Auto Express, which uncovered this paywall on electric power, customers have to stump-up a whopping £649 to permanently unlock the full 20kW of performance Volkswagen has limited. The restriction on power also limits the maximum torque, dropping it from 265Nm to 310Nm. With less pulling power and outright performance, the ID.3 is also not likely to achieve the quoted acceleration from 0 to 62mph in 8.2 seconds. However, Volkswagen says the restricted performance does not affect the claimed range 240 miles. Not only is the paywall a sneaky tactic to make drivers cough up even more money for the electric cars but it will also be an administrative headache for owners. This is because those who refuse to pay the subscription will need to notify their insurer that their ID.3 produces less power than the 170kW quoted by the car maker. The Daily Mail has contacted Volkswagen UK for comment and to understand if any other EV models are subject to paywalled power. Car makers cheekily charging extra for existing features Volkswagen isn't the first car firm to ask its customers to pay a monthly subscription to access features and performance also equipped in their cars. BMW in 2022 took a lot of heat when it was revealed that it was charging owners of its motors a monthly fee of £15 to access the heated seats in their expensive motors. It also wanted £10 a month to unlock the heated steering wheel, a tenner to activate high-beam assist, and £35 to turn on the adaptive cruise control system. A year later, Audi Audi's boss said the company would ramp up availability of 'function on demand' features that would need to be unlocked with a monthly payment. Polestar owners too can pay extra for a performance pack that provides more power through software upgrades. However, this is different to the Volkswagen subscription because it is not unlocking power that's already there as standard.
