'If we were not dependent on energy, that wealth would have been used for our youth, it would have helped the poor in my country to fight against poverty. It would have been useful for the welfare of the farmers of my country, it would have been useful in changing the conditions of the villages of my country. But we have to give it to foreign countries. Now we are working towards becoming self-reliant,' he said.

Nazara Technologies, Delta Corp share prices plunge up to 7% amid proposed Online Gaming Bill 2025
Online gaming platform Nazara Technologies and casino operator Delta Corp share price fell up to 6 per cent in Wednesday's trading session after the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will introduce stringent regulations on online money games in the upcoming Online Gaming Bill, 2025. Nazara Technologies share price were down 7.78 per cent to ₹ 1,308.70 apiece on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Delta Corp share price fell as much 6 per cent to ₹ 89.99 on August 20. The proposed Bill aims to ban individuals or organizations from providing online money games or related services in India. It would also prohibit advertisements for such games and restrict financial transactions associated with them, with banks and financial institutions potentially barred from processing payments to these platforms. If enacted, the Online Gaming Bill, 2025 would mark a major regulatory shift in India's online gaming industry, carrying significant consequences for platforms that operate real-money formats. The legislation has been designed with an emphasis on addressing mental health issues among users, especially in games that involve financial rewards. It also seeks to mitigate risks of money laundering and fraudulent activities identified within the online gaming sector. This development follows growing regulatory attention on digital gaming platforms, as authorities warn that unchecked operations could lead to financial misconduct and social challenges. The new framework is anticipated to enforce stricter compliance standards, enhance transparency, and provide stronger safeguards for players while preventing platform misuse. In a stock exchange filing, Nazara Technologies clarified that it has no direct involvement in the RMG (real money gaming) segment. According to its Q1 FY26 results, RMG made no contribution to either revenue or EBITDA. The company said that its only indirect exposure comes from a 46.07% stake in Moonshine Technologies (PokerBaazi). Since Nazara neither holds a majority stake nor has control, Moonshine's revenue is not consolidated into Nazara's financial statements and does not affect its reported revenue or EBITDA. Nazara further noted that Moonshine's contribution to profit after tax (PAT), recorded under share of profit/loss of an associate, was negative in Q1 FY26. HAL, Other Defence Stocks Surge Up To 4% As Govt Approves Rs 62,000 Crore Tejas Mark 1A Order
Last Updated: Tejas programme, backed strongly by Defence Ministry and the IAF, is seen as a key step in India's self-reliance in defence manufacturing Defence stocks, including Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) rallied on Wednesday after the government cleared a major deal worth Rs 62,000 crore for the Indian Air Force (IAF) to acquire 97 LCA Tejas Mark 1A fighter jets. HAL shares climbed 3.5% to a day's high of Rs 4,611.60 on the BSE, while BDL gained 1.35% to Rs 1,570.45. The approval, cleared at a high-level government meeting, paves the way for HAL to begin production of the aircraft. This is the second big order for the Tejas Mark 1A. The first, placed a few years ago, was for 83 jets worth nearly Rs 48,000 crore. With the latest deal, the IAF's order book now stands at 180 Tejas fighters, which will replace the ageing MiG-21 fleet being phased out in the coming weeks, defence officials said. The Tejas programme, backed strongly by the Defence Ministry and the IAF, is seen as a key step in strengthening India's self-reliance in defence manufacturing. It is also expected to create opportunities for hundreds of small and medium enterprises in the supply chain. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a vocal supporter of the indigenous fighter project. He became the first Indian PM to fly in a combat aircraft when he undertook a sortie in the trainer variant of Tejas, later describing the experience as 'enriching" and a testament to India's defence capabilities. The latest order comes alongside other approvals worth Rs 1.6 lakh crore by the Defence Acquisition Council, including the purchase of 156 LCH Prachand helicopters and upgrades for 84 Su-30MKI fighters. Inducted into service in 2016, Tejas is currently flown by two IAF squadrons. With the new order, the Mark 1A variant is set to form the backbone of the IAF's fighter fleet in the years ahead. Deliveries from the earlier order of 83 jets, worth Rs 36,468 crore, are scheduled to start from February 2024, adding to HAL's production pipeline. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
