Ghaziabad: Gang of seven arrested for issuing fake insurance policies
The officials said that the two prime suspects worked with a financial services company in Noida till 2021 and left their jobs thereafter. Before leaving, they copied and brought along data of customers from bigger insurance companies.
'The two prime suspects later decided to cheat people and roped in five other suspects. With the data available, they would call the customers in order to renew or issue fake policies and even offer them benefits. Overall, they told the interrogators that they cheated about 1500 people and gathered about ₹ 4.5 crore. They collected money in several accounts and would issue fake policies,' additional police commissioner (CP) Alok Priyadarshi.
The police identified the two prime suspects as Aman Agarwal, 29, and Rahul Sharma, 23, both residents of Crossings Republik Township in Ghaziabad. Their five accomplices were identified as Rahul Yadav, 30, Aftab Alam, 25, Deepak Singh, 26, Garvit Tyagi, 24, and Jagjit Singh, 28.
The officials said that all seven were arrested in Vijay Nagar.
'They purchased a Thar and XUV300 SUVs from the money they received and also rented two flats from where they operated. They also operated from their SUVs. So far, we have frozen about ₹ 47 lakh in their accounts, and more investigation is going on in the case,' said Addl. CP Priyadarshini.
The officials said that the gang targeted residents of Delhi, UP, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The police said that the suspects have nine cases reported against them to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
The police said that apart from sections of 318 (cheating), 336 (forgery), and 319 (personation), the suspects are also subjected to legal action under section 111 (organized crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

LUCKNOW A young woman's desire for lavish shopping led to her and her three friends' arrest after they conspired to steal jewellery from her family's home in a Rae Bareli village. The police sent the four accused to judicial custody after producing them before a competent court. Sonali, who lived with her parents, Asha Awasthi and Guddu Awasthi, in Haryana for livelihood and frequently visited her native place in Satav village of Rae Bareli. She was aware about the jewellery secretly kept at her house in Rae Bareli, stated SK Singh, inspector in-charge of Gurubakshganj police station. 'While in Haryana, Sonali shared the details with her friends and provided them with duplicate keys and information about the jewellery to steal it in the absence of her family members. She even kept her friends updated about their live location over phone,' he said, adding: 'But Sonali's mother, Asha Awasthi, had a suspicion on her as she had overheard her daughter's conversation over phone and connected the dots to hint cops about the suspects.'

Ghaziabad: Man who stole cab to abduct ex-boss arrested with 2 aides
Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police on Tuesday arrested a 20-year-old man who along with his two accomplices allegedly injured a cab driver by slashing his throat and fled with the Maruti Wagon R, in order to kidnap his former employer or steal his Fortuner and Mercedes cars, said senior police officers. The DCP said that Abhay Kumar, the main suspect, wanted to avenge his arrest in the theft case. (Sakib Ali/HT Photo) The prime suspect was identified as Abhay Kumar, 20, resident of Kulesra, Gautam Budh Nagar, and his two accomplices as Aditya Rana, 20, resident of Hapur; and Kunal Panwar, 22, a resident of Ghaziabad. Police said that the trio on the night of August 7 booked a cab online and later overpowered its driver Mohammad Zakir, whom they tied up and dumped near the banks of the Upper Ganga Canal near Niwari after slashing his throat. They fled with his Wagon-R car. The injured driver was found by some locals on next morning and they informed the police. A first information report (FIR) for robbery was also registered following complaint by driver's brother Mohammad Rizwan under section 309 (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Niwari police station on August 8. 'Based on the CCTV footage, electronic surveillance, and manual intelligence, the three were arrested from near Niwari in connection with the robbery with the cab driver. Abhay sustained a gunshot to his leg following a retaliatory fire by police while trying to escape before opening fire at the police. During interrogation, the suspect told police that Abhay worked as a guard at a house in Kavi Nagar. In March, he was arrested for stealing a Fortuner and a Mercedes from his employer and landed up in jail,' said deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (rural zone) Surendra Nath Tiwary. According to the police, Abhay's former employer on March 19 had registered an FIR for theft, under section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, at Kavi Nagar police station after his Fortuner and Mercedes were stolen. Officers from Kavi Nagar police station said that suspect Abhay, along with his accomplice Asif, was arrested by the North Delhi district police and two cars were recovered. 'Later, Abhay was brought to Ghaziabad and sent to Dasna jail in connection with the case. He later procured bail,' said assistant commissioner of police (Kavi Nagar circle) Bhaskar Verma. The DCP said that Abhay wanted to avenge his arrest in the theft case. 'So, he along with his two accomplices, robbed the cab driver and fled with his Wagon-R car. This car he intended to use for kidnapping his former employer or for stealing his two expensive cars which would fetch him a good amount of money. In the meantime, the trio was arrested while they were trying to flee to Meerut,' the DCP added. Police said that they recovered the stolen Wagon-R car, two mobiles, a country-made weapon, and three knives from the possession of the suspects. A case is already registered, and additional sections of the Arms Act and as per investigation will be added to the case investigation in due process, DCP added.

Mumbai techie killed as car gets crushed between two trucks in Gurugram
A 24-year-old engineer from Mumbai was killed late on Monday night after his car was crushed between two trucks near Hero Honda Chowk, police said on Tuesday. The mangled remains of the car. (HT Photo) The victim, identified as Prahlad Shankar Verma, lived in a residential society in Sector 90 and worked for an American software firm with its office on Badshahpur-Sohna Road in Sector 48. Police said Verma was driving his Wagon-R towards home when the accident took place in front of the Hero MotoCorp factory in Sector 33 between 11.30pm and 11.45pm. The deceased was originally from Back Bay Reclamation in Marine Lines, Mumbai. Sandeep Kumar, public relations officer of Gurugram police, said a truck was moving ahead of Verma's vehicle, while a dumper loaded with soil was at least 100–150 metres behind. 'The truck in front suddenly applied brakes, forcing Verma to slow down. However, the speeding dumper trailing the Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R failed to stop and rammed the car, crushing it between both the heavy vehicles. Verma was killed instantly at the spot,' he said. Kumar said the impact was so severe that it took more than one and half hours to cut through the mangled remains of the car to extricate the mutilated body. 'The drivers of the dumper and the truck had fled the spot, abandoning the vehicles. They will be traced and arrested soon. All vehicles were seized and taken to the Gurugram Sadar police station,' he added. Police said commuters informed the control room immediately after the crash, and emergency response vehicles reached the spot, but rescuers were delayed by the wreckage's condition. On the complaint of Verma's father, police registered an FIR against the unidentified dumper and truck drivers under sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage to the amount of ₹20,000 and more but less than ₹1 lakh) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Gurugram Sadar police station on Tuesday. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy.
