En-Nesyri Under Fire: From Hero to Headache at Fenerbahçe
The Moroccan forward lit up the Süper Lig in his early months, chalking up 26 goals and 7 assists in 47 appearances this season. From August to February, he was electric – tearing up defenses, bagging braces for fun, and even entering conversations around the world's top scorers.
But then came March. And the goals stopped.
In Sunday's derby against Beşiktaş, the 27-year-old was hauled off in the 70th minute to the sound of boos and whistles from the home fans. Fenerbahçe lost 1-0 and with it, perhaps, their grip on the title. They now trail Galatasaray by five points, and their patience is now dwindling.
Pundits aren't holding back either. Erman Özgür, speaking to TivibuSport , didn't mince his words: 'You threw away another 70 minutes of Fenerbahçe's time, saying you would save En-Nesyri in the eyes of the fans… You save yourself first.'
Since netting against Antalyaspor on March 2, En-Nesyri has failed to find the back of the net. Even José Mourinho, who publicly backed the striker, is feeling the heat.
'En-Nesyri scored 26 goals without taking penalties. He went through a challenging period during Ramadan, where he lost some of his form, but he is starting to get back to his best. He has proven that he is regaining his physical condition. He will play a key role in the remaining seven matches of the season, without a doubt,' said the Portuguese boss earlier this month.
That faith, though, has yet to bear fruit.
Despite the slump, En-Nesyri remains a man in demand. West Ham and Saudi giants Al-Nassr are rumoured to be circling, and with a contract until 2026, Fenerbahçe may well look to cash in this summer.
So, can En-Nesyri rediscover his killer flair before the season ends, or has his time in Kadıköy already run its course? Tags: FenerbahceJose MourinhoTurkeyYoussef En-Nesyri

Hakimi vs PSG: Ballon d'Or Debate Divides the Dressing Room?
Achraf Hakimi's public claim that he 'deserves' the Ballon d'Or has sparked discussions in Paris, with reports of dressing-room unease that PSG swiftly denied. Speaking to Canal+, the Moroccan reflected on his and his inclusion among the 30 finalists. 'When people put me in the Ballon d'Or debate, it's a dream I had never thought of. If I have the possibility to win it, I think I deserve it too,' he said. According to L'Équipe, those comments cooled the atmosphere within the squad. The newspaper claims the club unsuccessfully sought to have those claims removed before the video was broadcast – a move that PSG insists never happened. Officials say the squad is 'calm' and fully focused on Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup game against Tottenham at 8:00 PM Morocco time in Udine, Italy. The French outlet also suggested Hakimi's stance clashed with PSG's internal messaging, which has publicly backed Ousmane Dembélé as the club's leading Ballon d'Or contender. The winger has been the focus of the club's promotional push for the award, which will be presented on September 22 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France. This year, PSG became the first club in history to have nine players simultaneously named among the 30 Ballon d'Or finalists – matching Real Madrid's record for most nominees in a single year. In 2022, nine Real Madrid players were nominated for the Ballon d'Or. Karim Benzema won the award. Other nominees from the team included Thibaut Courtois, Luka Modrić, Vinícius Júnior, and Eduardo Camavinga. It is not the first time L'Équipe has reported tensions at the club. Earlier this summer, the paper reported that several players, including Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Vitinha, felt they deserved equal recognition to their higher-profile teammates. Morocco falls 1–0 to Kenya in CHAN 2024 Group A match
The Atlas Lions suffered a 1–0 defeat to Kenya in the third round of Group A at the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), held on Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. Eager to secure all three points, the Moroccan side sought to take control from the outset, stringing together short passes to move closer to the Kenyan penalty area while maintaining strong ball possession. Their early efforts led to a free kick just outside the Kenyan box, resulting in a clear chance to break the deadlock in the 10th minute. National coach Tarik Sektioui was forced into an early substitution when Ayoub Mouloua left the pitch injured and was replaced by Youness El Kaabi in the 23rd minute. The Kenyan players responded with a few attempts that posed little threat to goalkeeper El Mehdi Al Harrar. Meanwhile, the Moroccans kept up the pressure, notably through Anas El Mahraoui in the 37th minute. Against the run of play, Kenya opened the scoring in the 42nd minute through Ryan Ogam, who capitalized on a scramble in front of Al Harrar's goal to slot a loose ball into the left side of the net. The Kenyan side was reduced to ten men after a foul on El Mahraoui prompted referee Vincent Kabore to show Chrispine Erambo a straight red card in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time (45+4'). After the break, Morocco pushed forward in search of an equalizer, with Youssef Mehri coming close in the 46th and 48th minutes. The Kenyans, however, became increasingly dangerous on the counter, threatening to double their lead. Seeking to turn the game around, Sektioui brought on Salaheddine Errahouli for Anas Bach and Oussama Lamlioui for Bouchaib Arrassi in the 61st minute. The changes injected more dynamism into the attack, with Sabir Bougrine (65') and Mohamed Moufid (66') both creating promising opportunities. Despite maintaining constant pressure on Kenya's defense and making repeated incursions into the penalty area, the Atlas Lions were unable to alter the scoreline. With one win from their two games, having sat out the second round, Morocco remains on three points and will face Zambia on Thursday at the same venue.
