Six students from Andhra Pradesh top in NEET UG-2025
The National Testing Agency conducted NEET UG-2025 at 5,468 centres located in 552 Cities across the country, and 14 cities outside India on May 4. More than 22 lakh candidates appeared for the entrance test.
Mahesh Kumar from Rajasthan secured AIR 1, while Avika Aggarwal got AIR 5 and emerged as the female topper.
According to official data of NTA, AP student Podavati Mohith Sriram secured AIR 56 with a percentile of 99.9974653, Desina Surya Charan from Visakhapatnam got AIR 59 with 99.9972390.
Podilapu Avinash bagged AIR 64 scoring 99.9968316. Yerra Sameer Kumar of Visakhapatnam stood 70th with 99.9968316, while Tummuri Siva Manideep ranked 92nd with 99.9954737.
No student from Andhra Pradesh secured top rank in any category, except Karumanchi Vikrant, who got ninth rank in SC category with 99.9878243 percentile.
Kireeti hails from Rajamahendravaram. He completed his schooling from LKG to Class 8 in Trips International School, and from Class 8 to Intermediate at Tirumala Junior College.

State panel to check feasibility of MHT-CET twice a yr
Mumbai: The state govt has set up a committee to recommend reforms in the MHT-CET, including the feasibility of holding the test twice a year, with probability of having the first one in January. The MHT-CET for admissions to engineering, pharmacy and agricultural courses, is currently held in April and May over a period of 15 days. Though with the lack of adequate infrastructure available to take up the massive exercise twice a year, the committee could look at other solutions for the convenience of students. TOI had earlier reported about the govt's keenness to hold CETs twice a year, giving them an opportunity to improve their scores. A govt representative said another problem with holding the CET in April and a delayed start for the centralised admission process (CAP), is that most private universities complete their admission process by then. "For holding MHT-CET in Jan, the govt will have to ensure there are no clashes with other entrance exams. Also, if govt uses aided institutions to hold the exams, those should be available for the CETs. Israel euthanises crocodiles after repeated escapes, inhumane treatment
Petzael (West Bank), Aug 4 (AP) A bask of crocodiles brought to an Israeli settlement in the West Bank decades ago is meeting its end, as authorities euthanise the aging reptiles after years of their repeated escapes from a long-neglected farm. Israeli authorities said Monday that government veterinarians had culled the crocodiles because they threatened the area's residents and were themselves suffering from inhumane treatment. The exact number of crocodiles euthanised and the method of culling were not immediately clear. 'The Nile crocodiles at the farm were being kept in an abandoned compound under poor conditions that constitute animal abuse, with insufficient access to food, which had driven them to cannibalistic behaviour," COGAT, the Israeli defence body that administers civilian affairs in the West Bank, said. The crocodiles were initially brought to the town of Petzael as a tourist attraction — a business adventure derailed by violence between Israel and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. They were later purchased by an entrepreneur who hoped to sell their skin. Their fate has been an open question since Israel in 2012 passed a law classifying the reptiles as protected animals and banned raising them for sale as meat or merchandise. 'I don't want to think of what will happen if a crocodile manages to escape and reaches the Jordan River, and then we'll have an international incident," the head of the local community told The Associated Press in 2018, referencing the border with Jordan 6.8 kilometres away. COGAT said that authorities had spent hundreds of thousands of Israeli shekels (more than USD 29,000) to re-fence the dilapidated farm, which has been in a state of disrepair since it was shut down in 2013. Dasara: Elephants and staff insured for ₹2 crore
The elephants for Mysuru Dasara-2025, their mahouts, and kavadis have been insured for a sum of ₹2 crore. The Forest Department officials and the staff, who are associated with the management and training of elephants, are also covered under the insurance, in addition to all 14 elephants that are going to be part of the Dasara festivities, which will commence in September. In total, 43 have been given the insurance cover. Confirming this to The Hindu, Deputy Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) Prabhu Gowda said, 'A premium of ₹67,000 has been paid towards the insurance cover, which has been given by The New India Assurance Company Limited. The insurance policy provides coverage for damages to public as well as private properties.' Mr. Gowda said all nine elephants led by Abhimanyu arrived in the city on Monday around 6 p.m., and are camping at the Aranya Bhavan here. Earlier in the day, the Gajapayana of the elephants was held at Veeranahosahalli, and the jumbos were transported in trucks to Mysuru after a grand event.
