Anupam Kher was ‘trembling' after wife Kirron Kher's cancer diagnosis, son Sikander was cool: ‘Main toh bimaari ke liye darr raha tha'

Veteran actor-politician Kirron Kher was hit with a curveball in 2020, when she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. During News18's event She Shakti in 2024, she graced the stage with her son, actor Sikander Kher. The India's Got Talent judge revealed that while her husband-actor Anupam Kher was 'trembling' after seeing her in the hospital, Sikander on the other hand, was pretty 'cool' about it. Kirron also opened up about the tough course of treatment and medicines she had to go through to recover from the disease.
When the host asked about Sikander's reaction after knowing about his mother's cancer diagnosis, he shared, 'It was end of 2020, I was shooting for my movie Monkey Man in Indonesia at that time. I was there for 4 months, everything is in a bubble so you are disconnected from the rest of the world.'
The actor added, 'Life plays it's cards the way it does. What do you do at that point? I think she is very strong that way, we were always there and are there for her throughout. At the end of the day, life goes on and work goes on. There's nothing much that you can do, right?'

However, Kirron instantly quipped that she expected him to be a bit more emotional than practical. 'I have never seen you being emotional about it ever. I wanted you to be a little bit but you were not,' she said. 'Main toh bimaari ke liye darr raha tha, maa. How can it mess with you? It can't mess with you. Galat jagah aagaye boss tum. Those conversations were between me and dad when I was in Bataam,' he smiled and replied.
Sikander continued, 'The thing is, you have to be strong. You can't be saying 'Oh My God' around the person, it is going to kill all the good energy around you. Nobody is feeling good about it. Unfortunately, the situation and what happened is one of the worst things that happen in the world.'
After which, the Dostana actor added, 'Anupam used to look thoda sa ghabraaya hua when he used to come into my hospital room, but Sikander was cool. Every human is scared at one point in life about anything happening to them. But when it happens, the only option you have is to accept it.'
Kirron Kher also revealed that the cancer treatment process was worse than the disease itself. 'You have to get the treatment done. Bimaari se zyada khatarnaak ilaaj hai iska. The medicines and their side effects. The first 6-8 months were very tough, then God was kind. You leave it to the Lord. The Lord fights for me, who are we? We are nobodies,' she expressed.

Vignesh Shivan Recalls First Meeting With Rajinikanth As Coolie Releases: 'Couldn't Stop Tearing'

Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan celebrated the release of Rajinikanth's Coolie with a heartfelt throwback to their first meeting. Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan is celebrating the release of Coolie with a heartfelt throwback to the day he first met superstar Rajinikanth. Sharing photos from their first meeting, Shivan wrote that he teared up after meeting Thalaiva. For the unversed, last week, Vignesh Shivan postponed the first look of his upcoming film, Love Insurance Company, due to Rajinikanth's Coolie launch. Taking to social media on the day of the Coolie release, Vignesh Shivan, married to Nayanthara, shared an emotional note that captured both his admiration for Rajinikanth and the excitement of Coolie's first-day-first-show. 'First time I met you, couldn't stop tearing up! Thalaiva…! @rajinikanth Everyone in this industry and everyone who knows you loves you! It's only because you are truly a nice human being! Being a star and being the human you are makes all this love justified! 50 years of entertainment, 50 years of style, 50 years of so much love from so many of your loyal fans — forever shall continue," he wrote, adding a series of heart and angel emojis. Vignesh's words reflect the sentiment of countless Rajinikanth fans who admire not just his unmatched screen presence but also his humility off-screen. As Coolie hit theatres on August 14, the director couldn't contain his excitement, writing, 'Coolieeeeeeee morning FDFS! So excited! Wishing the best for everyone involved." Take a look: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Vignesh Shivan (@wikkiofficial) Coolie leaked online on piracy sites Within hours of its release, Rajinikanth's Coolie fell prey to piracy, with links surfacing across notorious sites such as Tamilrockers, Filmyzilla, Movierulez, and Moviesda. High-definition 1080p prints to low-quality 240p versions were circulated online, catering to every kind of viewer. The leak spree quickly spilled over to Telegram, where multiple channels shared the full film for free, making it accessible to a wide audience illegally. Streaming Coolie through pirated sources doesn't just rob the makers of their rightful earnings — it's also a criminal offence under Indian copyright law. Offenders can face penalties of up to Rs 2 lakh and, in some cases, imprisonment. Cybersecurity specialists caution that piracy websites come with hidden dangers, including malware, spyware, and phishing traps. These threats can compromise personal data, lead to hacked accounts, or result in financial fraud. Many such platforms also host adult or gambling content, posing additional risks, especially for younger audiences. Rajinikanth's Coolie clashed with Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan's Hindi release, War 2, at the box office. view comments First Published: August 14, 2025, 15:00 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
