Joey, Matthew, And Andy Lawrence Apparently Haven't Gone By Their Real Name For Decades, And I'm Having A Mini-Meltdown
They call him Joey.
They call him Matthew.
They call him Andrew.
They're the Lawrence brothers, but that's not their name!
During the '90s Con panel on March 28, the "Lawrence" brothers took the stage and revealed to People how they came upon the popular moniker and why they wish they could go back to their real name.
All this time, the three siblings, who portrayed the fictional Roman brothers in the '90s sitcom Brotherly Love, also went by the fictional last name Lawrence.
In a way, it's all the eldest Lawrence brother, Joey's fault.
Joey's been acting since the early '80s with guest roles on Diff'rent Strokes, Silver Spoons, and a starring role on the 1983 sitcom Gimme a Break!
His career continued into the '90s when he co-starred in the hit TV series Blossom, playing Joey Russo before joining Brotherly Love.
Likewise, his little brothers followed him into show business, with Matt being featured in Gimme A Break! in '80s, and starring in Mrs. Doubtfire and Boy Meets World in the '90s.
Andy, the youngest of the trio, would appear in Blossom a couple of times before eventually going on to voice T.J. Detweiler in Disney's Recess and star in a few made-for-TV movies.
But, for everyone who remembers Joey and the Lawrence brothers's four decadeslong careers, we were living a lie. Lawrence is not their last name. "It was my middle name," Joey said at '90s Con. "So I was named after our dad and our grandfather on our dad's side."
Joey's full legal name is Joesph Lawrence Mignogna. When he began acting in the '80s, he was told, "No one can pronounce Mignogna. That's not a name people will say."
They used his middle name as his last name, and his brothers followed suit when they joined the business. Now, they wouldn't mind going by their actual last name. "Today, things like that are celebrated," Joey said of Mignogna's pronunciation. "In the '80s, it was like, 'We're going to need to water this down. There are silent Gs.'"
Matthew noted that having the "Lawrence" stage name had benefits. "There was an insulation factor," he said. "Some people might check in old school ways, but it would be very, very hard to find us. That was a great thing."
Matthew did suggest there were a few downsides to having two names. "Now I'm just stuck with two different names, and I can't travel internationally," he said. "Even for a while there the government only recognized me as Matt Lawrence because I paid taxes from the time I was a toddler to 18 as Matt Lawrence."
"But really my name is Matthew William Mignogna," Matt explained. "So when I grew up and used my real name on my passport, there was absolutely no correlation. I didn't exist."
And for Andy, his real name is Andrew James Mignogna.
The Mignogna* brothers agreed they wish they could just go by their birth names now. "It would have made it easier," Andrew said. "It's really a pain in the butt, honestly, like having two names. You have to prove you're both people."
The brothers are still going strong, working on projects together like 2021's Mistletoe Mixup, 2023's Frankie Meets Jack, 2024 Christmas rom-com Marry Christmas, and the podcast they launched in 2023, Brotherly Love.
So, whether it's the Roman, Russo, Mignogna, or the Lawrence brothers — we're guaranteed to see a lot more from these guys, and I'm seated.

Juneteenth celebration set for June 14
TUPELO — Every year, residents and officials alike gather at Gum Tree Park to celebrate the day the last slaves were notified of their emancipation following the American Civil War. Tupelo will host its annual Juneteenth Tupelo Freedom Celebration June 14 at 4 p.m. at Gum Tree Park, with a separate celebration set from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on June 19, the official day of the federal holiday. Both are free to attend. 'We are very excited. Each year gets better. Each year… more people become aware of not just the festival but also the history,' organizer Jennifer Lawrence said. 'We come from a people that persevered. They went through a lot of oppression but we are here. We are still growing and evolving and we are making strides.' Juneteenth, a portmanteau of June and 19th, marks the annual celebration of the day Union soldiers traveled to Texas to announced that all enslaved Black people in the state were now free, officially ending slavery in the United States. In 2021, former President Joe Biden signed a law naming the day a federal holiday. The Saturday, June 14, festivities will include music performances, multiple speakers, a barbecue cook-off, a kids zone, a dance contest and giveaways. As part of the event, four graduating Black high school seniors or college students each will receive a $300 Conway Goree Scholarship. There will be a mini motorbike raffle as well. Before the June 19 celebration at the park, Lawrence said there will be a march from Gum Tree Museum on main street up to the monument by the old courthouse. Musical performances include Rapper J, Unique JS, Geno Jones' FOCUS, KP & Favor, Genesis United of Starkville, Mighty Gospel Warriors, Lawrence McKenzie, Changed of Amory, Tay Cheesy Brand the Line Dance Queen, J. Green & The Smack Band, The Crossroads Band, EJ Soul, Music Doll TB and more. Before the event proper begins, there will be a parade that starts 3 p.m., starting at the C.C. Augustus Center on North Green Street. Organizers request those attending bring lawn chairs. On June 20, the second annual 'Freedom Face Up' basketball tournament will take place at the Tupelo Police Athletic League, 204 Douglas Street. For more information, contact, Bridgett 'Miss Bam' Shelly at (662) 871-7590 or Lawrence at (662) 816-8403. Lawrence said vendors are still welcome to apply.

‘Ballerina' Losing Opening Weekend Box Office Match To ‘Lilo & Stitch'
Ana de Armas in "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina." Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves' From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is falling short in its quest to take the No. 1 spot from Lilo & Stitch at the weekend box office. Lilo & Stitch, of course, had a blockbuster opening over the four-day Memorial Day weekend box office from May 23-26 and fended off Karate Kid: Legends to hold on to its box office crown in its second-weekend frame from May 30-June 1. This weekend, Disney's live-action adaptation of the 2002 animated classic is continuing its domestic box office dominance against Ballerina, which is a prequel movie set during the events of 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Deadline is projecting that Lilo & Stitch is on track to earn $32 million to $34 million from 4,185 theaters through Sunday, while forecasting a $26 million to $30 million No. 2 debut for Ballerina, which is opening in 3,409 venues. Deadline's estimate for Ballerina falls within the range of a mid-week projection by Variety, which pegged a $28 million to $30 million opening frame, but comes up short of Box Office Pro's opening weekend forecast of $32 million to $40 million. Ballerina had a $90 million production budget with a prints and advertising budget of $45 million, Deadline reported. Although the character of John Wick is part of the film's formal title, Keanu Reeves plays a supporting role in Ballerina, in which Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston and the late Lance Reddick all reprise their roles from the John Wick franchise. Rated R, Ballerina also stars Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus. Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves in "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina." While Ballerina is falling short of pre-release forecasts, its projected take of $26 million to $30 million is enough to create a healthy separation from Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Tom Cruise's latest— and potentially last — mission as Ethan Hunt is projected by Deadline to earn $14 million from 3,496 North American theaters through Sunday for a No. 3 finish this weekend after spending two weekends at No. 2. The Hollywood trade publication also projects a $9 million take for Karate Kid: Legends from 3,859 theaters domestically for the No. 4 spot and a $5.7 million take for The Phoenician Scheme from 1,678 venues for a fifth place finish. The latest comedy from director Wes Anderson, The Phoenician Scheme staged its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the South of France in May and opened in limited release in six theaters on May 30. Note: This box office report will be updated throughout the weekend as new domestic and international numbers become available. The final numbers for this weekend's box office will come out on Monday.
