BJP's CR Kesavan slams Rahul Gandhi, calls Congress party of
Responding to Rahul Gandhi's recent comments critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kesavan said, 'The Congress party, ever since Nehru's days, has been hyphenated with cowardice. Rahul Gandhi says don't be afraid, but he himself is afraid to release the contents of 51 cartons of letters written by Jawaharlal Nehru, which rightfully belong to the nation.'
Questioning Gandhi's transparency and courage, Kesavan challenged him to make the letters public. 'Why is Rahul Gandhi being a coward and not disclosing what's in those letters? If he wants to talk about courage, he should revisit the 1923 Naba incident, where his great-grandfather Nehru admitted in his autobiography that he had deserted his colleagues and behaved like a coward,' Kesavan said.
Taking a swipe at the Congress leader's international image, the BJP spokesperson cited former US President Barack Obama's autobiography, in which Obama allegedly described Rahul Gandhi as 'nervous' and having 'an unformed quality.'
He also criticized the Congress-led UPA government's response to the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
'Obama clearly says that the Manmohan Singh government resisted attempts to retaliate against Pakistan because the Congress party was afraid of anti-Muslim sentiment in the wake of the 26-11 attacks. Look at the cowardice of the Congress party and their appeasement politics.'
Referring to recent military operations, Kesavan said Gandhi's remarks insulted the armed forces.
'Rahul Gandhi, with his statements and his bitterness for the Prime Minister, has only further insulted our armed forces and their courage, and he has also discredited Operation Sindhu. But regardless of what doomsday and naysayers like Rahul Gandhi may state, the entire world is lauding Operation Sindoor for striking a decisive blow at the root of global terrorism. Operation Sindoor and the valour of our armed forces under the leadership of Narendra Modi ji will be written in the golden letters of India's history,' he said.
His remarks come in the wake of Rahul Gandhi's recent attack on the BJP-led government over alleged US mediation.
Addressing Congress workers in Bhopal, Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Modi 'surrendered' after receiving a call from US President Donald Trump. He contrasted Modi's reaction with former PM Indira Gandhi's stance during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. He also attacked the BJP-RSS, alleging that if slight pressure is exerted on them, 'they run away out of fear.'
'Now, I understand RSS-BJP well. If slight pressure is put on them, they run away out of fear. When Trump called Modiji-'Modiji kya kar rahe ho, Narender-Surrender and with 'ji hazooor', Narenderji followed Trump. In the 1971 war, Seventh Fleet (came from the US), Indira Gandhi said I will do whatever I have to do. This is the difference.'
Rahul Gandhi also attacked the BJP-led government in a post on X. 'Since the Independence movement, they have this habit of writing letters of surrender.'
'Trump's phone came and Narendraji immediately surrendered. History is witness, this is the character of BJP-RSS, they always budge. India had bifurcated Pakistan in 1971 despite the threat by the United States,' Rahul Gandhi said in his post. 'The 'babbar sher' and 'shernis' of Congress fight the Superpowers, they do not bow,' he added.
US President Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for stopping hostilities between India and Pakistan after New Delhi's effective response to Islamabad's aggression following precision strikes on terror infrastructure. India had conducted Operation Sindoor early on May 7 and hit terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
India effectively responded to subsequent Pakistan aggression and pounded its airbases. India and Pakistan agreed to stop military action following a call made by Pakistan's DGMO to his Indian counterpart. (ANI)

The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav began from Sasaram on Sunday with a massive rally at the Airport Ground. The event saw the presence of senior leaders, including RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rabri Devi, CPI-ML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, Bhupesh Baghel and VIP chief Mukesh Sahani. Be it the Lok Sabha or the Assembly, the BJP is winning by stealing votes. The same conspiracy is being carried out in Bihar through Special Intensive Revision (SIR). But we will not let this succeed.' Citing examples, Rahul Gandhi alleged that in Maharashtra, one crore new voters were mysteriously added to the list within four months of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, helping the BJP capture power. In Karnataka, he claimed, about one lakh votes were stolen in a single Assembly segment of a Lok Sabha seat, leading to the BJP's win. 'This is a direct attack on democracy,' he warned. Gandhi assured the crowd that the Mahagathbandhan would resist any such conspiracy, saying, 'This is Bihar. People here know the power of their vote. If there is an attack on democracy, Biharis will be the first to rise against it.' Echoing the charge, Tejashwi Yadav accused the Election Commission of colluding with the BJP. 'This is not just theft of your vote; this is outright robbery. Narendra Modi wants to cheat Biharis. But this is Bihar, where lime is rubbed with khaini. Can't share machine-readable voter list as it may lead to breach of privacy: CEC Gyanesh Kumar
Sticking to its firm stand of protecting the privacy of voters, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday refused to release machine-readable voter list – a demand repeatedly made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said machine machine-readable voter list has been banned since the 2019 verdict of the Supreme Court, as in such a list, the entries and photos can be tinkered with. 'We recently saw some media reports displaying voter lists with photos of electors without consent, which is a breach of privacy,' he said, adding that the poll panel was obligated not to circulate photos of mothers or sisters. He said machine machine-readable voter list is different from the searchable voter list, which is available on the ECI, where a voter can enter his details to check if his name is in the voter list. CEC Gyanesh Kumar said the ECI is standing like a rock with voters, and no eligible voter's name can be deleted to deny him or her the right to vote. He said within 56 hours of a Supreme Court order, the ECI has created a website for each district in Bihar, and it can be used to search a voter's name usingthe EPIC number. Earlier last week, the ECI accepted three key suggestions from the Supreme Court over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Bihar, agreeing to the addition of a list of non-included voters with reasons in the draft roll. For the convenience of citizens, the ECI said that in addition to the list of deceased, voters at two places and permanently shifted given by BLOs to all political parties since July 20, a list of non-included voters with reasons shall also be put in the draft roll. The list of non-included voters could be searched with the EPIC number, booth-wise, on the website of DEOs and the CEO, it said. The poll panel said those aggrieved can file their claim along with a copy of Aadhaar, a key second suggestion of the apex court. The ECI accepted the apex court's suggestion that those aggrieved can file claims along with a copy of Aadhaar. A source in the ECI said an aggrieved person can be defined as a person whose name is not present in the draft list (65 lakhs), and he or she can only file a claim, which has to be in Form 6 under the rules. The Form 6 already contains a column for Aadhaar. Earlier, during a hearing, the apex court directed the ECI to publish online the list of over 65 lakh voters proposed for deletion during SIR. However, citing ground reports and official documentation, ECI officials assert that the process has been far more transparent and collaborative than some Opposition voices suggest. The apex court's directions include uploading the full list of deletions, stating reasons for each deletion, allowing claims with Aadhaar for identification (not citizenship), and displaying these lists at Panchayat and BDO offices.

Four hardcore Maoists surrender in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district
In a major success for anti-LWE operations in central India, four notorious Maoists surrendered before security forces in Gariaband district, marking a significant setback for the insurgent network active in the region. Among those who laid down arms was Deepak a.k.a. Bhima Mandavi, a divisional committee member (DVCM) with a reward of Rs 8 lakh. The total bounty on the surrendered cadres stood at Rs 19 lakh, senior police officials said. The other three included Kailash a.k.a. Bhima Bhogam, a member of the Protection Team; Ranita a.k.a. Paiki, an Area Committee member; and Sujita a.k.a. Uren Karam. With rewards ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, all four had been active in the Dhamtari-Gariaband-Nuapada Division since 2013. Acting on Intelligence shared by the surrendered Maoists, security forces recovered Rs 16 lakh in cash from suspected hideouts. The operation also yielded 31 live cartridges, two empty magazines, detonators, eight BGL rounds, 12 bore ammunition, and a trove of Maoist literature believed to be used for indoctrination and recruitment. Their surrender is being seen as a strategic breakthrough, especially in the wake of recent setbacks suffered by the Maoists organisation, said the officials. Based on information provided by the surrendered cadres, security forces recovered Rs 16 lakh in cash, 31 live cartridges, two empty magazines, eight BGL rounds, detonators, 12 bore ammunition, and a cache of Maoist literature. Officials believe the cash was part of the group's operational funding, hidden in forested hideouts to support logistics and recruitment. The development comes months after a high-impact offensive in January 2025, when 16 Maoists — including Central Committee member Jairam alias Chalpathi—were killed in a joint operation near the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border. That operation, backed by drone surveillance and coordinated intelligence, has since triggered a visible breakdown in the Maoist command structure. Raipur Range IG Amarendra Mishra and IG Naxal Operations Ankit Garg, confirmed that the organisation is facing a deepening crisis. The financial and leadership vacuum has accelerated the pace of surrenders. Cadres are demoralised and increasingly choosing to abandon the movement, Mishra said. Security agencies believe the cumulative impact of leadership losses, financial disruption, and sustained pressure is pushing more Maoists toward surrender. With each defection, the operational grip of the insurgents continues to loosen—offering a measure of relief to communities long caught in the crossfire. The latest surrender not only weakens the Maoist infrastructure but also signals a shift in morale, suggesting that the state's strategy of coordinated action and rehabilitation is beginning to yield results.
