EA delays The Sims 5 to protect decade's worth of DLC content from The Sims 4
In a recent interview with Variety, EA president Laura Miele revealed that the company doesn't want fans to lose the progress and content they've accumulated over the past decade. 'What I wouldn't want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero… and give up all of the content you've purchased,' Miele explained.
Since its release, The Sims 4 has introduced over 85 expansion packs, game packs, and kits — many sold as premium DLC. EA acknowledges that asking players to abandon these purchases isn't 'player friendly.'
Miele also emphasized that The Sims 4 is now 'technologically strong' enough to continue evolving without needing a sequel. Instead of a clean-slate Sims 5, EA is shifting focus to spin-offs like Project Rene, a multiplayer project in development, and cross-media ventures such as The Sims movie, being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Margot Robbie's LuckyChap.
The film presents new opportunities to merge linear storytelling and interactive gameplay, potentially introducing its characters and themes into The Sims 4 through future DLC.
With the franchise celebrating its 25th anniversary, EA is opting for innovation through expansion rather than replacement — signaling a new era of transmedia storytelling for The Sims and other top EA titles.

Lady Gaga to release new song for Netflix's 'Wednesday' Season 2 alongside appearance on the show
Lady Gaga is confirmed to release a new track titled Dead Dance for the second season of the Tim Burton-directed Netflix series Wednesday. Two sources close to the production revealed the news to Variety, confirming fan theories that had circulated in recent months. The song and its accompanying video are scheduled for release next month, timed with Gaga's on-screen appearance as Rosaline Rotwood who is described as a 'legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday.' Reps for the singer declined to comment, but industry insiders have linked the song's production to Andrew Watt and Cirkut, who also worked on Gaga's Mayhem album. Although she was absent from the recent Wednesday Season 2 premiere in London due to her ongoing Mayhem Ball tour, Burton praised her creative energy. 'She's such an artist and so for me, working with an artist is inspirational,' he told Variety. The new season also includes Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Steve Buscemi, and Joanna Lumley. The first four episodes of Wednesday Season 2 will be released on Netflix on August 6, 2025, at 3 am ET / 12 am PT. The final four episodes will follow on September 3, 2025.

EA delays The Sims 5 to protect decade's worth of DLC content from The Sims 4
Electronic Arts (EA) is holding off on releasing The Sims 5, citing concerns over the massive amount of downloadable content (DLC) players have invested in The Sims 4 since its 2014 launch. In a recent interview with Variety, EA president Laura Miele revealed that the company doesn't want fans to lose the progress and content they've accumulated over the past decade. American Ninja Warrior renewed for season 18
NBC has officially renewed American Ninja Warrior for its 18th season, according to Variety. The popular summer competition series is set to begin filming later this year in Las Vegas, with a notable twist added to its format. Season 18 will introduce a new supersized three-lane racecourse, which will feature head-to-head-to-head races — a first for the show. Contestants will go up against each other simultaneously on parallel obstacle tracks in a high-speed test of strength, agility, and endurance. Casting for the upcoming season is already underway, and, as in previous seasons, competitors will battle through a series of physically demanding challenges for the chance to win the grand prize of $250,000. The high-stakes knockout bracket — introduced in Season 17 — will also return as part of the format. Hosts Matt Iseman, Akbar Gbajabiamila, and Zuri Hall are all confirmed to return to guide viewers through the action-packed course and offer commentary on the competitors' performances. American Ninja Warrior remains a cornerstone of NBC's summer programming. The current 17th season premiered in June and has already reached over 23 million viewers across NBC and Peacock, the network reports. Produced by A. Smith & Co. Productions, the series is executive produced by Arthur Smith, Kent Weed, Anthony Storm, Brian Richardson, and Kristen Stabile. The show is based on the Japanese hit series Sasuke, which has aired 42 seasons on Tokyo Broadcasting System Television. In addition to American Ninja Warrior, NBC continues to bolster its unscripted summer lineup with shows like America's Got Talent and Destination X, along with scripted programming like the Canadian medical drama Transplant, which airs Thursdays. Season 18 of American Ninja Warrior is expected to deliver even more intense competition with its newly expanded race format and returning fan-favorite hosts.
