OTT partner threatens ₹10 crore cut for the delay in the release of Dhanush starrer 'Kuberaa', reveals producer
'Kuberaa,' a high-profile pan-Indian socio-drama directed by
Sekhar Kammula
, is set to hit theatres on June 20, 2025. Featuring an ensemble cast including Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, and
Dalip Tahil
, the film was initially slated for an April release but faced delays due to post-production demands.
Shot in both Tamil and Telugu, with dubbed versions in Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, 'Kuberaa' promises to be a gritty exploration of power, ambition, and consequence.
Producer alleges ₹10 crore threat from Prime Video
However, producer
Suniel Narang
has raised serious concerns about the growing influence of OTT platforms on theatrical schedules. In a recent interview with Gulte, Narang revealed that Amazon Prime Video, Kuberaa's streaming partner allegedly threatened to slash their deal by ₹10 crore if the film wasn't released on the pre-agreed date of June 20.
This, he says, reflects a troubling shift in power where digital platforms now dictate release timelines.
Post-production plea rejected by OTT Partner
Suniel Narang shared that despite requesting a few extra weeks due to post-production delays, the platform was unwilling to budge. 'I requested a July date, but they said they'd deduct ₹10 crore if we missed the June 20 release. It all goes according to their will now,' he said.
According to Narang, Telugu films typically land on OTT within 28–30 days, giving producers little room to maneuver when delays occur.
Will the digital release of 'Kuberaa' be affected?
Suniel Narang further voiced frustration about the industry's dependency on external platforms. 'People talk about cutting actors' pay. Why should we? Out of 145 crore people, we have barely 50 superstars. They are gods. The problem isn't them—it's everything else. These other entities profit regardless of whether a film succeeds or not,' he added, hinting at a deeper imbalance in today's filmmaking ecosystem.
We have to wait to see whether Suniel Narang's revelation about the OTT partner's quarrel will affect the film's digital release or not.

"There's a sliver of vulnerability -- especially in how he loves his niece. She's the only person he protects without question," Rampal shares. Insider Scoop: Cast of 'Crakk: Jeetegaa Toh Jiyegaa' unveils behind-the-scenes magic in candid interview "What made playing Rauf so challenging was how he could show tenderness, even while being completely consumed by darkness," the actor added. The series has been created by and directed by Anshuman, , and Abhay Chopra. It is produced by Locomotive Global Media. Earlier, the creator of the show, Karan Anshuman had shared an interesting anecdote from the shooting of the series when Rana Daggubati improvised his lines but it soon went into some other tangent. Rana Daggubati essays the titular character in the series, and was in a heated stand-off against his uncle Venkatesh Daggubati, who essays his estranged father in the series. During the verbal stand-off, the two broke into Telugu language. Now, Karan has a little knowledge of the language, so he, in his director's seat, was under the impression that "magic is about to happen" since both the actors were saying lines in their native language, which essentially means better grip on the dialogue exchange. However, the director was shocked to his bones when he heard the word "biryani". The show is set to stream on Netflix on June 13.

He gained popularity with his role in Darlings, and his recent OTT series Kankhajura has received much appreciation. The actor admitted that although his roots are in the Malayalam film industry, he made his debut as an actor with the Hindi series 'Tanlines' in 2015. Roshan Mathew about his role in Kankhajura In an interview with Hindustan Times, Roshan said playing in Kankhajura was exciting because it marked his first time portraying a grey-shaded character—especially in Hindi, where audiences mostly know him as the softer Zulfi from Darlings. He found the change both refreshing and fun. Kankhajura Trailer: Roshan Mathew, Mohit Raina and Sarah Jane Dias Starrer Kankhajura Official Trailer When asked about his appearance and the roles he plays, Roshan admitted that physical appearance plays a significant role in casting choices. He shared that he is glad Kankhajura's director, Chandan Arora, chose him for the role. Roshan about his career in Bollywood and Mollywood Roshan shared that returning to Bollywood feels like coming full circle. He elaborated, 'My first project in front of the camera—where I actually started having fun with the medium—was Tanlines. Proshit Roy, who directed it, played a huge part in helping me make friends with the camera. I had done a couple of films in Malayalam, but they hadn't been released. But I was going about it with the wrong approach. I was completely ignoring the camera and pretending like I was on stage. Proshit changed that for me. I owe a lot to him. So, if you think about it, getting to do another series in Hindi is a strange kind of homecoming."
