RTM-DBP Epic Supertele ‘Srikandi' To Air On Aug 31 In Celebration Of Independence Month
KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), in collaboration with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), has produced the epic supertele entitled 'Srikandi' to be aired on Aug 31, in conjunction with the Independence Month celebrations.
Its director-general (DG) of Broadcasting, Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman said that the special feature inspired by the classic masterpiece "Syair Siti Zubaidah Perang China," published by DBP with the support of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and Pahang State Secretary's Office, successfully produced a quality script.
"After more than six months of hard work since last October, including over a month of filming at various locations around Pahang, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, this project is now in the final phase of production. This drama is the first special epic story by RTM produced on a mega scale and using a film format with the assistance of FINAS.
"The film set of 'Srikandi' highlights historical locations and natural beauty, especially in Pahang, such as Jerantut, Kuala Tahan, Sungai Lembing, Kuantan and Pulau Tioman," he said during a special meet-and-greet session for the film at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL) 2025 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here today.
Also present at the event were the DBP DG Dr. Hazami Jahari, 'Srikandi' director Wan Mohd Afzam Wan Daud, and some of the film's cast.
Suhaimi said this feature is not just entertainment but also an intellectual work that uses modern technology to create a cinematic impact.
He said the 'Srikandi' script is targeted for competition in film festivals and to be marketed internationally.
Meanwhile, Wan Mohd Afzam said the drama, which combines elements of reality and fiction from the pre-16th century era, highlights the spirit of struggle and wisdom of Malay women through the lead character Siti Zubaidah.

Communications ministry to assist disabled artistes with welfare aid
KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications Ministry is ready to facilitate monthly welfare aid applications for artistes facing permanent disabilities, ensuring long-term support through collaboration with the Social Welfare Department (JKM). Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching emphasised the ministry's commitment to artistes' welfare, noting that while FINAS provides one-off assistance, sustained aid for severe cases can be arranged. Teo stated, 'If there are emergency cases, such as permanent disability requiring monthly assistance, we have no issue helping to liaise with JKM, as that falls under their jurisdiction. FINAS can still consider helping with applications in exceptional cases like this.' She spoke during a visit to two veteran artistes under the Ziarah Seni MADANI FINAS programme. The beneficiaries included comedian Sathia Periasamy, 61, known as Sathiya, who is recovering from foot amputation surgery, and Mohd Shah Rosli, 50, or Dino, a stroke survivor. Both received cash aid and essentials to alleviate their financial burdens. Since 2024, 163 artistes have received welfare aid under the programme, including festive assistance. Fahmi wants to see latest piece of late Ross Ariffin work completed
Fahmi says he was impressed by Ross Ariffin's creative spirit. Photos via mStar Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil expressed his sadness that his wish for a song by renowned 1990s composer Roslan Ariffin Jamil in conjunction with National Day was not realised but would attempt to get the piece completed. Fahmi said he conveyed the wish to the late Ross Ariffin last year when he visited the Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) studio where the composer showed extraordinary enthusiasm to return to work despite having suffered several strokes. He said during the visit, which was accompanied by RTM director-general Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman and RTM music director Datuk Mokhzani Ismail, the late musician also appeared excited to see various types of musical instruments. "At that time he had several verses (melody) played. We will try to find the song and try to complete it. "I still remember the words (of the deceased) it's in my head, a song that I hope will be prepared for National Day as a recognition," he told the media when met after visiting the deceased's body at the Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin Hospital, in Kajang on Sunday (Aug 3). Fahmi, who was impressed by Ross Ariffin's creative spirit, said that the ministry provided a special piano to make it easier for the composer to continue working despite facing health challenges and starting a new life. "The way he produced music was very unique, he didn't write notes but kept playing. For me, it's a miracle, hopefully the songs he created will continue to be a memory for all of us," he said. Roslan Ariffin, 63, breathed his last at 5.30pm on Saturday and left behind two children. The body was buried at the Sungai Kantan Islamic Cemetery in Kajang after the Zohor prayer. The late Ross Ariffin had composed songs for several popular artists in the country, including Datuk Aishah ( Kemaafan Dendam Yang Terindah ), Fauziah Latiff (Dia), Ning Baizura (Kau dan Aku) and Jaclyn Victor (Ceritera Cinta). After hearing of the composer's death, Fahmi took to Facebook to share his condolences. "Uncle Ross was a composer who contributed greatly to the local music industry,' he said in the post. Fahmi also shared that he had met the late composer on several occasions and described him as a resilient individual despite the many challenges he faced in life. "He faced a difficult life but remained strong in his journey as an artiste. May his soul be showered with blessings and placed among the righteous,' he said. – Bernama
