Terrifying moment thug pulls out machete during 20-person brawl on residential street
This is the terrifying moment a machete wielding thug attempts to stab two men during a 'wild west' style mass brawl that erupted on a residential street in Birmingham. The shocking footage was captured when around 20 men fought in broad daylight along Showell Green Lane in Sparkhill, Birmingham as frightened bystanders and passing motorists looked on. As fighting spilled out into the middle of the suburban thoroughfare a man wearing a grey sweatshirt and black track suit bottoms can be seen holding what appears to be a large knife. With ferocious punches and kicks being traded as the men fought in the middle of the road, he is filmed rushing into the melee and attempts to slash a man in a white vest who is attacking a man wearing a robe. He appears to strike his back with the large blade and then steps away from the brawl returning moments later to try and slash a man in a blue tee-shirt who is punching a rival who has fallen in the middle of the road. The machete wielder is then seen being led away by another man and calmly walking around the corner as the fighting continues. It is not known what caused the vicious brawl which appears to have started as two groups of men remonstrated with each other while stood around a sliver car. Shouts of 'oi, oi' can then be heard and fighting initially breaks out in a garden with other men brawling in the road, causing passing traffic to swerve around them as shocked motorists sounded their horns. At one point, a man falls to the ground and is surrounded by rivals raining kicks and punches on him. One onlooker who did not wish to be named said: 'It was like a Wild West saloon brawl, there were bodies everywhere as the men rolled around the ground fighting. 'I don't know what caused it, but this group were talking in a quite animated way for a while before something sparked it. "From then on it was just carnage. All hell broke loose. There were fights breaking out all over the place. It's not want you want to see.' The onlooker added: 'It's pretty shameful really, there's lots of families with kids around here and you've got grown men acting like this.' Another witness said: 'We only noticed the man with the machete when we saw the video. Luckily, he never stabbed anyone, but you can see that he tried this best to. 'It's frightening to think that there are morons like this walking around with weapons-he could easily have killed someone or caused them serious injury.' After the fighting came to a stop, some of them men continued to remonstrate with each other, but the majority got in their cars and drove off. One eyewitness can be heard saying: 'Take the beef home,' while another adds: 'F***ing stupid.' The Sparkhill area of Birmingham has been blighted by gang violence in recent years with much of it attributed to drug dealing that the neighbourhood has become notorious for. Last year, videos posted on social media showed a man being stabbed while walking along a busy road in Sparkhill in the middle of the afternoon. Footage showed the victim trading blows with a man in the middle of the road while cars swerved around them. Two men are then seen sprinting into the road to join the brawl - with one pulling a large knife out of his waistband and then stabbing him. Earlier this year, a drugs gang that sold multiple kilos of heroin and cocaine across Birmingham were jailed for a combined total of 77 years. Police started investigating the drug ring after some of its members attacked a house in Sparkhill from where a rival drug gang was operating with machetes and shotguns. Following last week's brawl in Sparkhill, a West Midlands Police spokesperson said: 'We've arrested four men on suspicion of violent disorder following an incident on Showell Green Lane, Sparkhill, shortly after 7.30pm, last Wednesday (13 August). 'Four men, aged 23, 22 and two aged 20, were taken into custody and have since been bailed with strict conditions as our enquiries continue. 'Witnesses or anyone with any information should contact us on 101 quoting crime number 20/342846/25. 'Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. 'We have increased patrols in the area to offer reassurance to the community.'

Death toll in Nigeria mosque attack rises to 50, dozens abducted
MAIDUGURI, Aug 20 (Reuters) - The death toll from an attack by gunmen on a mosque and nearby homes in Nigeria's northwest Katsina state has risen to at least 50, with around 60 others abducted, local officials and residents said on Wednesday. The attack occurred early on Tuesday in the remote community of Unguwan Mantau, in Malumfashi district, as Muslim worshippers gathered for Fajr, the dawn prayer. Witnesses reported that armed assailants arrived on motorcycles, opening fire inside the mosque before moving through the village. Aminu Ibrahim, a lawmaker representing Malumfashi, said at least 30 people were killed and 20 others burned alive in what he described as a series of brutal attacks on the community. Katsina police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu said officers intercepted the attackers and successfully prevented a planned assault on two villages. But while fleeing through Mantau, the attackers opened fire on residents. Several homes were also set ablaze before security forces arrived at the scene, he said. Survivors recounted harrowing scenes of women and girls being dragged away by the assailants. "They started shooting inside the mosque while people were praying," said Muhammad Abdullahi, a resident. "My neighbour was killed. I was lucky I didn't come out early." On Tuesday, Fatima Abakar, an official at the local general hospital, told Reuters that 27 bodies were registered at the morgue, though many victims were taken by relatives for Islamic burial rites. Northwest Nigeria has seen a surge in attacks by gangs, known locally as bandits, in recent years targeting villages and highways, abducting residents for ransom, and extorting farming communities.
