A24's new theater will feature food from one of NYC's hottest restaurant groups
Enter Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson, the powerhouse chefs behind Frenchette, Le Rock and the recently rebooted Le Veau d'Or. According to Eater, the duo's latest project will be a full-service restaurant and bar in the theater's lobby, slated to open this fall. City filings show that the restaurant will be an intimate 60-seat space that will allow theatergoers to arrive early and linger long after the curtain call.
It's a savvy match. A24 already dipped into the food game with its own line of chocolate bars and the Frenchette team is no stranger to pairing fine dining with culture (see: Frenchette Bakery inside the Whitney Museum). At Le Veau d'Or, they've shown a flair for honoring historic spaces while turning out food that feels timeless, not tired, a promising preview of what might be on offer at Cherry Lane.
The 1923 theater, tucked along winding Commerce Street in the West Village, has long been a haven for off-Broadway experimentation, with a résumé that includes Beckett, Mamet and even Bob Dylan. But after years of financial woes, it was sold to A24 in 2023 for just over $10 million, per The New York Times. The studio plans to breathe new life into the venue with a mix of film, theater and community programming.
Though A24 has been tight-lipped about the specifics, adding a chef-driven bar and restaurant suggests the Cherry Lane reboot will go beyond popcorn and playbills. That's sadly a reality of it.' Ambika will soon play a porn addict in a new stage show at Britain's most 'experimental' publicly funded theatre. The Royal Court has announced that they will be staging Sophia Chetin-Leuner's Porn Play, which focuses on a female academic who is addicted to pornography, and also tackles the taboo topic of female masturbation. The play was informed by a study which suggested that women are statistically more likely to watch violent pornography than men. Ambika will take on the leading role in the play, which will be directed by Josie Rourke. David Byrne, the Royal Court's artistic director, said the play had a 'conversation that I have not seen anywhere else'. He said: 'It is going to be a play that everybody will be talking about. Of course the subject matter elicits attention but it is a really deep and complex work.' Chetin-Leuner, a London-based playwright, previously said she started writing Porn Play, because she 'wanted to write something that I had never seen on stage before, and I had never seen a woman masturbate so it started from there'. Ambika and Leo were praised by fans when they starred in Netflix's One Day last year, which was based on the novel of the same name by David Nicholls. One Day follows the story of Emma and Dexter after meeting on the final night at Edinburgh University and the next 20 years of their lives on the same date, July 15. The two graduates become integral to each other's lives with a series of 'will they won't they' moments and obstacles in the path of a possible romance. The Daily Mail revealed Ambika originally turned down the role of Emma Morley after the star explained she found it was a 'massive, massive undertaking' given Emma was previously played by Anne Hathaway, 41, in the 2011 adaptation. She said: 'It was definitely originally written as white and previously played by a white actress. I'm really excited to bring something new to the role, I hope that young women who don't see themselves on screen that often see that it's possible. Ambika admitted she wouldn't have landed the role 10 years ago due to her skin colour, saying: 'I'm very different to Anne Hathaway, so I was never worried about that. Just the fact that I'm not white and I'm getting to play Emma. 'I don't think that would have happened ten years ago. That in itself is a way to modernise the story.'

Netflix adds 'emotionally haunting' biopic with Zac Efron's best performance
The drama is worlds away from Efron's iconic Disney roles. One of Zac Efron's most captivating performances is now streaming on Netflix, and it's worlds away from his light-hearted High School Musical days. The Hollywood heartthrob stars in R-rated sports drama The Iron Claw, alongside the talented Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) and Stanley Simons (Rocky's). First released in the UK in 2024, the biopic is inspired by the devastating story of the Von Erich brothers, who made history in the 1980s wrestling world. Efron stars as Kevin, one of the brothers who made waves as a pro-wrestler, with Dickinson portraying David, White playing Kerry and Simons as Mike. While their sport took great importance in their lives, the Von Erichs were plagued by tragedy outside the ring. The family was struck by a series of tragic deaths, which became known as the 'Von Erich Curse.' This drama, directed by Sean Durkin, delves into their success as sportsmen as well as their "cursed" personal lives. It currently sits at an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score, with audiences rating it a stellar 94%. Critics raved about the biopic in their consensus, stating: "Powerfully acted and profoundly sad, The Iron Claw honours its fact-based story with a dramatization whose compassionate exploration of family ties is just as hard-hitting as its action in the wrestling ring."
