TV fans can now binge ‘must-watch' crime drama after season 2 is confirmed
UKTV confirmed that work is already underway on the second instalment of new crime drama Bookish, just as the first season's six episodes dropped on U&Alibi.
Set after the Second World War, the drama stars (and was created by) Mark Gatiss, who plays the eccentric secondhand bookshop owner Gabriel Book (a surname and job combination that means much wordplay ensues).
Since Gatiss also co-created the classic crime-busting show Sherlock, he's clearly developed a taste for mystery-solving, as his character Gabriel sets about piecing together a series of whodunnits.
Armed with a letter from Prime Minister Winston Churchill that allows him to investigate crime scenes despite being a civilian, Gabriel is much like Holmes before him and helps London's coppers on the beat to see what only he has twigged.
The old-fashioned drama isn't overly cosy in its crime, nor is it terribly dark, but the show does have serious themes, with debonair Gabriel hiding his sexuality behind a lavender marriage to wife Trottie (Bridgerton's Polly Walker). Set in 1946, this is an era where being openly gay was criminalised.

Gabriel takes on three cases across the new show, with the first being an investigation into some mysterious remains which have been discovered near a bomb site.
Co-written with journalist Matthew Sweet, Bookish gives viewers a series of clues so that they can try and crack the case alongside Gabriel – rather than pulling the culprit out of thin air.
While the show has only been out to watch on U&Alibi (available via Sky and NOW) for a day, several avid TV-watchers have already got stuck in to the episodes and shared their takes online.
Sharing a glowing review on Google, Lorna Mitchell said Bookish was 'absolutely excellent'. More Trending

Steve Mepham had similar thoughts, writing: 'Brilliant acting, a great story and wonderful setting. Mr Gatiss has produced a little gem.'

Our favourite natural historian is back again on our screens as a new five-part BBC series called Parenthood is set to come out next month. The 99-year-old has continued to delight fans in the UK and across the world with his fascination for the weird and wonderful. This latest docu-series will explore the trials and tribulations of parenting within the animal kingdom. It will also highlight how it can be a 'high-stakes game in which some animal parents must come up with extraordinary strategies to give their young a head start'. Filmed over three years and across six continents, and narrated by Sir David, fans have been offered a sneak peek at the series. The clip, which shows a female western lowland gorilla and her newborn baby, is adorable from start to finish. Just moments old, the baby sleeps on his mother's chest surrounded by plants and trees in the jungle. Narrating, David says: 'Her journey will be challenging, full of excitement, uncertainty and complete commitment. 'There will be mistakes. There always are. But success for her and indeed for all parents has perhaps the greatest of consequences. It ensures the future of life on our planet'. Parenthood is set to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, beginning on August 3 at 7.20pm. It promises to show viewers never-before-seen animal behaviours while delivering a 'universal message about preserving the natural world.' Speaking to The Mirror, BBC head of specialist factual commissioning, Jack Bootle, described Parenthood as 'wonderful, warm, engaging, and surprising'. He said that it is 'made by some of the very best wildlife filmmakers in the world,' adding: 'I'm thrilled Sir David is joining us again to narrate it.' Director Jeff Wilson added that the whole team is 'incredibly proud' that Sir David was involved in the series. 'Silverback Films did a deep dive into the subject over 2.5 years, uncovering extraordinary new behaviours and jaw-dropping dramas using the world's best wildlife cinematographers and directors,' he explained/ 'We are incredibly proud that Sir David was on board with us to bring to the screen a landmark series that has something for everyone – moments of heart-warming tenderness, high stakes narrative, and a timely guide from a huge cast of unbelievably engaging cast of characters on how to navigate the complex world of Parenthood.' How Bannon's alleged 'Epstein tapes' could be made public
As journalists and internet sleuths pour over details of the life of disgraced financier and convicted sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein , more details are emerging over the mysterious tapes of an series of interviews with former President Donald Trump 's campaign chief and White House advisor Steve Bannon . The details of the video interview were revealed by author Michael Wolff in 2021, who said that Bannon emerged as a kind of media coach for Epstein and captured interview footage he claimed was 'training' for the disgraced luminary who was looking for a comeback. Bannon reportedly recorded more than 15 hours of video, Wolff revealed, even as he disputed that he was acting as a media coach for Epstein and instead working on a documentary. Wolff said he obtained transcripts of the Bannon interviews of Epstein for his book, 'Too Famous: The Rich, the Powerful, the Wishful, the Notorious, the Damned.' Now Wolff is sharing further details of the transcripts and the tapes, which he says were recorded in Epstein's massive Manhattan townhouse. 'There's no question the tapes were media training,' he told The Hollywood Reporter. 'And there's no possible way Epstein would have signed off on them being used in a documentary.' The tapes could someday be released as part of an Epstein documentary that Bannon says he is working on. In March, Bannon told comedian Jimmy Dore on his show that he was working on a 'multi-part' documentary series for Netflix or some other video platform. 'The working title is 'The Monster,'' Bannon said, teasing that it would be 'pretty shocking about how this guy came from nowhere to the absolute highest level of the global elite.' 'It's a project I'm working on with my filmmaking team,' he said. Bannon said the enterprise was work in progress and that it would focus on the Epstein's mysterious case. 'I don't think there was any doubt he was taken out, I think he was murdered or executed however you want to say, I have no belief that he killed himself,' Bannon said. Wolff said that Bannon and Epstein frequently spoke and exchanged emails and spent time together in New York City at his apartment. For years now, the internet has buzzed about the existence of the Epstein tapes in Bannon's possession and what it could reveal about his motivations prior to his July 2019 arrest and subsequent prosecution. Political strategist Roger Stone has repeatedly called for Bannon to release the tapes. 'Steve has evidently done a documentary about him. I'd like to see that documentary,' Stone said in an interview with Benny Johnson of The Benny Show. 'Steve should release that audio and video immediately.' If Congress gets involved, they could potentially release a subpoena to force Bannon to release the tapes. Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna also encouraged Bannon to release the footage. 'I'd be very interested in seeing that footage and I think the American people would be too,' she said at a Turning Point USA summit of conservative activists in July. Wolff speculated that Bannon might not have the rights to the footage, which is why it had not been released. Bannon did not respond to a Daily Mail request for comment, but continues pressing the truth about the Epstein files, blaming Attorney General Pam Bondi for messing up the administration's handling of the case. Bannon has also warned that the Republican party would pay dearly politically if they did not release the truth about Epstein. 'For this to go away, you're going to lose 10 percent of the MAGA movement. If we lose 10 percent of the MAGA movement right now, we're going to lose 40 seats in (the midterms), we're going to lose the presidency,' he told activists gathered at the Turning Point USA summit. The future of Bannon's documentary remains unclear as the level of interest surrounding Epstein has reached fever-pitch after the Justice Department released a memo stating there was no record of a 'client list' in the Epstein files and no evidence of foul play in Epstein's death. In 2021, Bannon teased a section of the interview where Epstein says he is a supporter of the Time's Up movement, where women campaigned against sexual harassment. 'I made my living from old thinking. But the future is for the way women think,' he told Bannon.
