Orlando Pirates star Saleng is a Kaizer Chiefs supporter at heart?
Monnapule Saleng has a Kaizer Chiefs history. Will he do the unthinkable this winter and leave Orlando Pirates for their Soweto rivals?
An Amakhosi supporter as a boy, Saleng explained in the Sowetan back in 2022 via SABC Sport: 'I should have played for Chiefs because there was a scout from the club who was following me at Free State Stars.

It's not the first time Kaizer Chiefs have scouted a Congolese striker. Fans will remember that things didn't pan out so well for Christian Saile. Maxwell Nzengeli played six times in the Champions League last season but failed to trouble the scorers, so he's hardly set the world alight. As ever, there is pressure on the Chiefs board to make a big splash this window. Nzengeli has five caps and one goal for DR Congo.

Utility defender Kabelo Nkgwesa has been promoted to the club's first-team setup. With Happy Mashiane failing to impress when given a chance at left-back, Bradley Cross is the club's only genuine option in that position. Edmilson Dove, just back from injury, is the wrong side of 30 and a natural central defender. Paseka Mako arrives as the club's senior option in the position.

REVEALED: How Kaizer Chiefs have learned from their Billiat mistake
Kaizer Chiefs learned some hard lessons when they signed Khama Billiat to a massive contract, during which the Zimbabwean star failed to deliver. Billiat took home one of the biggest salaries in South Africa. He only scored 24 goals in 126 appearances for Amakhosi. Now, Chiefs are seemingly unwilling to make the same mistake with Percy Tau. FIVE Chiefs players are leaving the club The Glamour Boys aren't willing to hand another massive contract to a player over the age of 30. Percy Tau, now 31, is being fervently linked with a return to South Africa. 'The team feels that apparently they believe they have learnt a lesson from the signing of Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly,' an inside source explained. 'They paid a lot of money, but the club believes those returns were not worth it. So that's why they are looking at other forward players apart from Percy Tau. So, for now, he is not one of the targets. But in football, you never know what will happen in future. But definitely not now.' He only made 10 appearances across all competitions in 2024-2025. That's in stark contrast with prior campaigns where he made 30 and 26 appearances in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 league campaigns, respectively. With Rushwin Dortley still on the long road to recovery after knee surgery, Chiefs will need Msimango at the start of 2025-2026. Click for the story Should Chiefs steer clear of Percy Tau? Orlando Pirates news: Hotto, Saleng, Mofokeng, new coach
Orlando Pirates have yet to name Jose Riveiro's successor, but they are perhaps taking advantage of the offseason to hire the right man for the job; however, not everyone will wait. According to reports, Rulani Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane are both wanted in Egypt. The latter has been approached by recent Egypt Cup winners Zamalek FC, while the former is reportedly in talks with CAF Champions League victors Pyramids FC. Veteran wingback Deon Hotto has been rewarded with a contract extension amid weeks of uncertainty. The 30-year-old's contract was set to expire in under two weeks, but Orlando Pirates don't want him going anywhere. The new deal has been confirmed. Meanwhile, the same can't be said for forgotten man Monnapule Saleng, whose future at the club is as certain as predicting the weather. Both parties appear to be ready for an exit, but substantial interest has yet to be confirmed. The Bloemhof-born winger hasn't featured in the PSL since late November. Relebohile Mofokeng is another uncertainty; however, in this case, Orlando Pirates definitely want to keep him. Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos believes the 20-year-old will move this offseason. 'Okay, I think his parents want the best for him, that's for sure. But there is another guy who wants to win a lot of money also, but that's the problem. But ok, let's hope, maybe I talked too soon about that, 'We'll see. I think in June, Rele will not be a player of Orlando Pirates anymore, but a good choice is very important.' Meanwhile, the Sea Robbers have secured the future of youngster Yanga Madiba. 'They have already made that decision. For now, it's as good as done, and it's believed to be a three-year contract which would apparently run from July this year until June 2028,' a Soccer Laduma report read.
