Police appeal as man in 20s dies after fatal collision at reservoir
As reported by StokeonTrentLive an off-duty doctor was tending to the man as paramedics arrived. West Midlands Ambulance Service say that sadly nothing could be done to save the patient who was confirmed as dead at the scene.
Police are now appealing for witnesses. Emergency services were sent to the scene at around 9.30pm.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a man sadly died in a collision near Abbots Bromley. We were called to the B5013 Uttoxeter Road at Blithfield Reservoir yesterday (August 12) following reports of a collision involving a blue Fiat and a pedestrian.
"Sadly the pedestrian, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His family are being supported by specially trained officers at this time. The driver of the Fiat remained at the scene and is assisting us with our enquiries."
Police are keen to hear from anyone travelling along the reservoir between 9.15pm and 9.35pm. The ambulance service say it received reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian at the junction of Watery Lane and the B5013 causeway. An ambulance, HART paramedics and a paramedic officer were sent to the beauty spot.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: 'An off-duty doctor was at the scene with the pedestrian, a man, when ambulance staff arrived. Sadly, nothing could be done to save him and the man was confirmed deceased a short time later by ambulance staff.
'The driver of the car sustained minor injuries and was discharged on scene.'

Cyclist claims Miami Beach police unfairly arrested him after cruiser incident
A 55-year-old cyclist said he was unfairly arrested and charged with two felonies after placing his hands on a police cruiser during an operation on Ocean Drive. Vladimir Tovar, an engineer from Miami, faces charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. According to the arrest report, Tovar "intentionally struck" the cruiser hard enough to cause dents "approximately four to five times" before ignoring commands to stop. "I put my hand (on) the police car," Tovar said after bonding out of jail Friday morning. Tovar said he rode his bicycle into Miami Beach Thursday evening. On Ocean Drive, he rolled past undercover officers preparing to arrest people involved in illegal sales. During the operation, officers requested a cruiser nearby to keep everyone safe, a Miami Beach Police Department spokesman said. The cruiser was partially in the bike lane when cameras recorded Tovar approaching. "A cyclist traveling northbound reportedly struck the marked police vehicle intentionally before fleeing the area despite a sergeant's lawful directive to stop," MBPD Public Information Officer Christopher Bess said in a statement. "The cyclist was subsequently located and arrested." Tovar insists he did nothing wrong. He said video shows another cyclist approaching him as he neared the cruiser. He claims he put his hand on the vehicle to keep his balance while avoiding the other cyclist and barriers in the street. "The first hand (on the cruiser) was to stop," Tovar said. "The second hand (was) to (not) fall down. I just (tried) to stop." Tovar also expressed frustration with how officers treated him after his arrest. "It's crazy," he said. "At the Miami Beach detention center, they sent me to a little jail with people with mental problems. Then, they put me in a van with nine people with 90 degrees outside like you see people at the border." "How can I explain this to my 17-year-old son?" he asked. Tovar said he plans to fight the charges.

Uber driver 'completely forgot' it was illegal to refuse passengers with guide dogs
AN Uber driver told a court he 'totally forgot' that it was illegal for him to refuse to pick up a customer with a guide dog. Khurram Mukhtar had driven away from the disabled woman who booked his car after refusing to take both her and her dog. He had his licence revoked by Bradford Council following the incident in March. And on Wednesday he appeared in court charged with failing to accept a booking from a person with an assistance dog. The court was shown a video of Mukhtar saying 'no, no, no' before pulling away after the woman who booked the Uber informed him it would be illegal for him to refuse to transport her and her dog. He admitted the charge, telling magistrates he had been 'confused' as to what the law was. Waseem Raja, prosecuting the case on behalf of Bradford Council, said Mukhtar, 44, of Colyton Mount, Allerton, had received a boking to pick up a passenger from the Yorkshire Building Society headquarters at Yorkshire House, off Rooley Lane. The booking was made at 4.38pm on March 4, and Mukhtar's Uber arrived around 10 minutes later. The woman who booked the Uber relied on a guide dog, which was present when the vehicle arrived. Mr Raja said: 'He simply refused to take the dog and refused to take the complainant.' The complainant began recording him on her mobile phone. This footage was shown to Magistrates, and showed the complainant telling Mukhtar 'It is against the law to say no to a guide dog.'. He replied: 'No, no, no. I can't allow dogs. You need to order a pet Uber.' She told him he would be reported, and Mukhtar drove off, leaving the woman and her dog without a way to get home. Mr Raja said the Council received a complaint about his behaviour shortly after and the taxi licensing service began an investigation. Bradford Magistrates Court When they interviewed Mukhtar, he said he had forgotten that it was illegal to refuse to transport a visually impaired person and their guide dog. Mr Raja added: 'She relies on taxis to get her about, and this incident left her feeling quite upset. She feels she was treated unfairly.' He pointed out that you can hear the complainant sigh as the taxi drives off. Mukhtar represented himself in court. When asked to explain his actions, he said: 'I was so confused. 'I forgot you have to take guide dogs. I totally forgot. I know taking a guide dog is very important.' He said he only realised what he had done was breaking the law the following day. 'I've suffered from this. I've got no job' When he was questioned as to why he left a vulnerable woman with a disability at the roadside, he said: 'I was too confused at that time.' Mr Raja pointed out that all drivers are provided with training, which included disability awareness and the responsibilities of drivers in dealing with disabled customers. He added: 'He was only licensed in 2022, so any training should be fresh in his mind.' Responding to this, Mukhtar said: 'I've had no guide dog jobs in that time. I was so confused at the time. I told my friend about it after and he said 'why did you not take that job?'' Magistrates were told that on top of any punishment they issued, Mukhtar's licence had already been revoked. After some deliberation, Mukhtar was fined £80 and ordered to pay a £32 surcharge. The case cost Bradford Council £1,360 to investigate and prosecute, but due to his limited income Mukhtar will only be required to contribute £150 towards those costs. According to the Private Hire Vehicles (Carriage of Guide Dogs etc.) Act 2002, in the UK it is 'It is an offence for the operator of a private hire vehicle to fail or refuse to accept a booking for a private hire vehicle if the reason for the failure or refusal is that the disabled person will be accompanied by his/her assistance dog. 'A person who is guilty of an offence under this section is liable on summary conviction to a fine.'

13-year-old dies after being pulled from water at Jersey Shore beach
A teenager died Friday evening after being pulled from the water at a Jersey Shore beach. Multiple people called 911 just after 6:30 p.m. to report a swimmer in distress off the Eighth Avenue beach in Belmar, police said. When officers arrived, police said one person was out of the water, but a 13-year-old was still missing. Crews searched the water for nearly an hour, police said. Around 7:30 p.m., police said crews found the 13-year-old in the water off the Seventh Avenue beach. The teenager was unresponsive. Belmar lifeguards, emergency responders and paramedics all performed life-saving efforts, police said. The 13-year-old was taken to Jersey Shore University Hospital, where the teen was pronounced dead. The victim's identity is not being released at this time.
