Kelantan To Tighten Syariah Law Against LGBT, Immoral Acts
KOTA BHARU, July 17 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan government remains committed to strengthening and amending the Syariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019 (EKJS) to enhance its effectiveness in curbing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) practices and immoral activities.
Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said that despite past legal challenges, the state government is determined to enhance the law and its enforcement.
'EKJS 2019 was introduced to address syariah offences including sodomy, musahaqah (same-sex relations between women) and other immoral acts that defile the sanctity of religious life.
'The state does not recognise deviant cultures that go against Islamic teachings. LGBT practices are a clear transgression of human nature, which undermines morals and social harmony,' he said in a statement published on his official Facebook page today.
To boost prevention and enforcement, the state has formed a special committee involving the Royal Malaysia Police, the Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department, the Kelantan Health Department, the Kelantan Islamic Foundation, the Social Welfare Department and the National Anti-Drugs Agency.
The committee is responsible for coordinating comprehensive and inter-agency efforts to address moral decay and deviant behaviours that are increasingly visible in society, he added.
Mohamed Fadzli said the state government has implemented the Rabbani Community Culture Programme to enhance Islamic understanding, engage with at-risk communities and build societal resilience against the spread of social ills.
He also called on the federal government, particularly the Communications Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, to restrict access to online platforms that promote immoral content.
'The digital space must not be left unregulated and allowed to corrupt the minds and morals of society, especially the younger generation,' he said.

Investigation papers on Kepala Batas upside-down flag incident handed over to AGC, says the police
GEORGE TOWN: The investigation papers on an incident involving a man seen raising an upside-down Malaysian flag have been submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers, says Asst Comm Anuar Abd Rahman. The North Seberang Perai OCPD added that once given the directive, the police will charge the man. "There is one man who is the boss of the company. We are just waiting for the orders. "If it is given today, we will charge him tomorrow," he told the media after the hand-over ceremony of the new Penang police chief at the Senior Officers' Mess of the Royal Malaysia Police in Jalan Batu Gantung here on Monday (Aug 11). ACP Anuar said the man, who was arrested, is out on police bail. "We only arrested one person but recorded statements from around 10 people related to this case," he said. It was reported on Saturday (Aug 9) that the police were investigating an incident involving footage of a man seen raising an upside-down Malaysian flag. The footage is believed to have been recorded in Kepala Batas. It prompted an individual to lodge a report at the Kepala Batas police station at about 12.30pm on Saturday (Aug 9). ACP Anuar had said the case was being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988. The 21-second video went viral showing two men at a hardware shop here apparently intentionally displaying and flying the Jalur Gemilang upside down, drawing condemnation from Internet users. Following that, several non-governmental organisations and political parties, as well as Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican lodged police reports. Reezal Merican said the country has laws to protect the dignity and symbols of the nation, and therefore, proper investigations and action must be taken to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Government agencies and MADANI community urged to raise Jalur Gemilang
KOTA BHARU: All federal and state government agencies, along with the MADANI community nationwide, have been urged to take a proactive role in promoting patriotism by raising the Jalur Gemilang at their premises in conjunction with National Month celebrations.
