Coward who murdered ex's 'gentle' dad in 'revenge' for break-up jailed for life
Kamar Williams, 34, was caught at Notting Hill Carnival after spending a month on the run for murdering bus driver Derek Thomas, 55, in Hackney, north-east London, last July 30.
The Old Bailey heard Williams was 'simmering with rage' that evening after arguing with Derek's daughter Carron Thomas and their family.
Jurors were told he had been looking for Carron and had sent threatening text messages warning: 'Dumb bitch, talking like you somebody, f**k it gonna show you something, coming to me with that fake confidence, watch this space.'

She had called the police twice in the hours before her dad was killed.
Williams went to Mr Thomas's home looking for him or his daughter, but neither were in.
As he was driving away, he spotted Mr Thomas walking home on Stoke Newington Common at around 11pm.
Mr Thomas, who had been married for 35 years, had finished a late shift as a bus driver and gone into Tesco for some food before heading home.
Williams stopped the van he was driving in the middle of the road, got out and stabbed the grandfather five times.
Carron said her father was a 'kind, gentle and loving man' who 'did not deserve to have his life taken in such a senseless way'.
In a victim impact statement that was read to the court, Ms Thomas said: 'What makes this loss even more painful is that the person responsible is someone I shared a relationship with.
'My family is broken. We are trying to carry on, but we do so with heavy hearts, we feel our father's absence in every moment.'
Jailing Williams for life with a minimum term of 29 years, Judge Angela Rafferty KC told him: 'This was a merciless and determined attack.
'You killed him even thought at one time you had seen him as a father figure, as you told the jury.
'You knew how important he was to his wife and children as you had lived alongside them. You knew that targeting him would hurt them all.
'Mr Derek Thomas had nothing to do with the petty arguments you were having that night.'
She added: 'I agree with the Prosecution's case that you picked a soft target. He was completely unaware of your presence until you appeared before him wielding the huge knife.
'He did not have a chance. You targeted him for revenge because of your own fury. More Trending
'I am sure that to this extent this was a planned and targeted attack motivated by anger and directed towards the Thomas family.'
Detective Inspector John Marriott, who led the investigation, said: 'This was a brutal and premeditated attack on a much-loved father.
'Kamar Williams showed clear intent that night, driving to Derek's home, waiting for the right moment, and carrying out this senseless act of violence.
'The swift response from our officers, combined with extensive CCTV, forensic work, and determination from our investigation team, led to his arrest and conviction.' Earlier this month, a jury at the Old Bailey found Williams unanimously guilty of murder and guilty of having a bladed article.

American 'assassin' Aimee Betro travelled to UK to carry out shooting, court hears
Aimee Betro, from Wisconsin, was disguised in a niqab and burkha when she tried to kill her intended victim in Birmingham, it is claimed. Jurors were told the plot failed when the gun jammed. An alleged female 'assassin' travelled from the US to carry out a shooting outside a family home in Birmingham as part of a "vendetta", a court heard. The plot failed after Aimee Betro's gun jammed when she pulled the trigger metres away from the intended victim, it is claimed. The 45-year-old was disguised in a niqab when she carried out the attempted hit in September 2019, jurors were told. She allegedly returned to the house, in a quiet cul-de-sac, hours later and fired shots into two bedroom windows. Betro was in a three-way conspiracy with Mohammed Nazir and his dad Mohammed Aslam, prosecutors said. Birmingham crown court heard the two men wanted to murder clothing store owner Aslat Mahamud after a dispute. They were involved in a 'vendetta' and decided to carry out a killing as 'revenge' for an earlier incident, it is claimed. Prosecutor Tom Walkling KC said Betro flew from the US to Manchester two weeks before the attempted assassination. She allegedly bought a 'dirty' burner phone from Tesco two days before the hit in South Yardley. The following day she rang Mr Mahamud saying she was interested in buying a car he was selling, it is claimed. 'She was calling him as a pretext to set up a chance to kill him,' said Mr Walkling. Jurors were told she sat waiting for 45 minutes in a Mercedes outside Mr Mahamud's home dressed in a niqab and burkha Betro then tried to shoot his son Sikander Ali when he arrived at the property, the court heard. 'The assassin was a woman who disguised her appearance by wearing a niqab, a face covering, and what looked like a burkha,' said Mr Walkling. 'She had waited for someone to go into that house. When they did she pulled out a gun, a pistol, and pulled the trigger. She was only metres away from the intended victim. But the gun jammed, it failed to fire.' Mr Walkling said Mr Ali jumped back into his car and sped away from the scene after surviving the hit. Betro later allegedly texted his dad asking 'where are you hiding?' and saying 'stop playing hide and seek, you're lucky it jammed'. She then went back to the family's home and opened fire, Mr Walkling said. 'The gunwoman wasn't deterred. She returned to the same address on the same cul-de-sac a few hours later,' he added. 'She used the now-working gun to shoot three bullets through the bedroom windows of the victim's home.' A black glove with the American's DNA on it was later found inside the abandoned Mercedes, jurors were told. Betro left the UK two days after the botched hit, it is claimed. Nazir, 30, and his 56-year-old dad, both from Derby, have already been convicted of conspiracy to murder. Nazir has also been found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, the court heard. Betro, from Wisconsin, denies conspiracy to murder and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. She also denies sending bullets from the US to the UK.

Man guilty of murdering couple before dumping their remains in suitcases
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A man who murdered two men and dumped their remains in suitcases near Clifton Suspension Bridge has been found guilty of murder. Yostin Andres Mosquera, 35, killed civil partners Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, on July 8 last year in their flat in Scotts Road, Shepherd's Bush, west London. Mosquera, who was also staying with the couple, 'decapitated and dismembered' them, froze parts of their remains and brought the rest in suitcases to Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. He repeatedly stabbed Alfonso, who suffered injuries to his torso, face and neck, while Longworth was attacked with a hammer to the back of his head and his skull shattered. Mosquera planned to hurl the suitcases over the bridge to dispose of the remains after the 'calculated and premeditated' killings, prosecutor Deanna Heer KC said. He admitted killing Alfonso but said he 'lost control'. He pleaded not guilty to murdering both men and insisted Alfonso killed Longworth. It took a jury five hours and three minutes to unanimously find Mosquera guilty. Justice Bennathan KC, said he would sentence Mosquera on October 24, saying: 'I am not going to pass sentence on you today, although the only one I can pass on you is one of life imprisonment. 'I am going to order a psychiatric report on you. It is in your interests to cooperate with the psychiatrist so that I can decide the minimum term you are going to serve.' Days after the murders, a cyclist on Clifton Suspension Bridge in Brighton spotted Mosquera around 11.30 pm next to a large red suitcase. The cyclist thought he was a tourist and stopped to ask if he was okay. He noticed a silver trunk a few metres away from Mosquera. The defendant told the cyclist he was from Colombia and that the suitcases contained car parts – but they contained the dismembered bodies of Longworth and Alfonso. Alfonso and Longworth's decapitated heads were found by police in a chest freezer in their flat, the court heard. Alfonso, a swimming instructor, and Longworth, a retired handyman, had been living together before their death. On July 8 last year, Alfonso worked an early shift at the gym, and it was while he was out, Mosquera killed Longworth, the court heard. More Trending Alfonso was killed at about 10.15 pm in his bedroom, before searching Facebook Marketplace to search for a freezer, and he searched 'where on the head is a knock fatal' on Google and YouTube. Footage shown in court showed Mosquera later having sex with Alfonso, before ending the sexual encounter by 'repeatedly stabbing' Alfonso and 'cutting his throat'. He then started using Alfonso's computer, and examination of the computer shows the defendant looking at banking information – before trying to send £4,000 to his account in Colombia. Mosquero was arrested on July 13 at about 2.15 am after being found sitting on a bench outside Bristol Temple Meads railway station, the jury was told.
