Answering media queries over the Level-2 travel advisory issued by the US State Department, Parida said on Monday: 'I was checking the data and found that the number of American tourists visiting Odisha is very negligible. The US may find the rapid development of India a threat, and for this, they are making such assertions. But I don't feel Odisha or any other State in India are in such a situation that tourists will visit that region after getting permission from their country. Every country is free to make laws for its citizens. However, India is safe under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.'
The Tourism Minister also highlighted the prompt action taken by police following the college student gang-rape incident at Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district on June 15 that shocked the whole nation. Emphasising the State government's concerns over women's safety, she asserted that police succeeded in arresting all the accused involved in the shameful incident within just a few hours of the incident. She also informed mediapersons that the State government has already held two meetings mulling steps to increase security at various tourist spots and lovers' points in the State, and a decision in this regard will be taken soon.
Speaking on the issue, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said the US travel advisory is a diplomatic issue which will be addressed diplomatically by the Ministry of External Affairs. Earlier, the Opposition Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had targeted the State government over the travel advisory issued by the US State Department, alleging deterioration of the law and order situation in the State under the BJP-led government.
Senior BJD leader Arun Sahoo has alleged that the advisory issued by the US government corroborates the party's claim that the law and order situation has collapsed in Odisha, and incidents of women facing sexual abuse and other atrocities increased during the last year under the BJP-led State government. He also accused that Moist activities, which were suppressed during the BJD-led government, are rearing their head again in the State.

But with the rise of K Annamalai, there was a stir in the party unit, which was attributed to testy relations between the old order and the young crop. The differences came to the fore when Radhakrishnan and Annamalai took a divergent stance on the issue of calling a bandh in Coimbatore against the ruling DMK. While Radhakrishnan gave the call for a bandh, the legal counsel for Annamalai told the Madras high court that no such announcement was made. His nomination for the VP's post is also being read as the party's attempts to strengthen its outreach and footprint in the southern region, particularly in Tamil Nadu where elections are due in 2026. His stint as a parliamentarian, his dyed in the wool RSS credentials and cordial ties with leaders across the political spectrum are seen as attributes that would help him steer the House of Elders as chairman. Although the NDA's strength in the Upper House is 132 members (of 240) and the alliance is expected to win the polls comfortably, the BJP is hopeful that the nominee will get support from other parties that are not part of the opposition's INDIA bloc. In an interview with Sansad TV, Radhakrishnan earlier said he never developed enmity with anyone in his political career and moved along with everyone. 'Some things you don't like can be avoided silently. That was my earlier day character. There was a bomb blast in Coimbatore. I was against the terrorist but not against Muslims. When some Muslims approached me, I went to the police and said that they must arrest only those who are connected with the blast. No one expected this. That's why I am called the Vajpayee of Coimbatore,' he said in the interview.

The decision was taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party's highest decision making body, the Parliamentary Board, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday evening. 'The opposition leaders conveyed to us that their decision to support the nominee will depend on the candidate…we are hopeful that the VP will be elected by consensus,' Nadda said. Chennai: The State Platform for Common School System (SPCSS) on Saturday urged the chief minister M K Stalin to examine concerns expressed on State Education Policy (SEP) for school education and hold direct consultations with all members of the high-level committee, organisations, and individuals who presented their suggestions for strengthening it. "Student organisations, educational bodies, and educationists have come out with various suggestions to improve and strengthen the policy.
