Coronation Street alumnus Ryan Thomas has shared that his family is baffled by his return to the iconic ITV soap, remarking that they "don't understand it".
A cornerstone of the cobbled streets, Ryan first stepped into the role of Jason Grimshaw in 2000, quickly embedding himself into the fabric of Weatherfield. His character became known for a string of entangled romantic exploits with Weatherfield's women like Rosie Webster, Maria Connor, and Sarah Platt — the latter portrayed by Tina O'Brien, who shares a child with Ryan.
Beyond his tumultuous love life, a defining element of his stint on the street was his bond with his on-screen mother Eileen, played by Sue Cleaver, who herself is gearing up to bid farewell to the street.

In 2016, after clocking up 16 years as a familiar face on the soap, Ryan opted to exit Coronation Street, seeking fresh challenges and vistas beyond its famed cobbles.
Yet, nearly a decade since he waved goodbye, news has broken that the actor, now 40, is primed for a dramatic comeback. Fans are set for a surprise as Jason returns from his Thai sojourn to drop back into Weatherfield, leaving residents stunned by his unexpected appearance, reports Belfast Live.

As anticipation builds for his screen resurgence later this month, Ryan has confessed his brood is yet to share in the excitement, with the actor suggesting his kids may well give watching his heralded Corrie return a miss.
Speaking candidly to Inside Soap, he reflected on the importance of Coronation Street in his life: "Even if my children don't understand it now, there will come a time when we sit down and show them. Corrie will always be a reminder of who I am and where I came from."
His return to Weatherfield is amidst the Grimshaws' woes, coming hot off the heels of aunty Julie Carp's passing following a lengthy cancer battle. This family grief is compounded as Eileen becomes entangled with the law, facing scrutiny over allegations of having murdered her own sister, Julie.
During a heartfelt chat on Loose Women, Sue reminisced about her time on the soap: "I've had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street."
She elaborated on her decision to leave, stating: "The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly."
Sue took a sabbatical from the cobbles to tread the boards in 'Sister Act The Musical', and subsequently ventured into the jungle on I'm A Celeb in 2022.
Catch the latest drama on Coronation Street tonight at 8pm on ITV.

The programme was delayed by seven minutes with just a message from the broadcaster, that read "we're sorry for the disruption," on top of a black screen. Luca took a photo of a screen showing the error message and posted it to his Instagram stories. "Oh no what a shame, now nobody can see me and all of Corrie win all of the awards!" he wrote. But Luca was later forced to eat his words, as Corrie went home empty-handed. He was even spotted by eagle-eyed ITV viewers looking disappointed after Corrie lost an award. Luca looked upset when BBC rival EastEnders scooped the award for Best Single Episode. The actor's chances of picking up an award were dashed when it was announced that EastEnders' special flashback episode about Phil Mitchell's Psychosis had won. Those watching at home claimed Luca looked "furious" with the result. One wrote: "The Mason actor didn't look too happy there." Luca's character Mason was tragically killed off during the nominated episode. Shocking scenes saw Mason attacked by his brothers and flee - but the thugs chased him down. And when Dylan tried to intervene - bringing Mason's knife - it was taken from him and used to stab Mason. He stumbled into the playground and hallucinated a future where he reunited with Betsy and planned for his new life in Germany. Rushed to hospital with a weeping Betsy and Abi with him, the doctors battled to save his life. But sadly there was nothing they could do and Mason died in the hospital leaving Betsy devastated. BBC rival EastEnders swept the board after collecting a total of eight gongs in its 40th anniversary year - more than double its nearest rival, Channel 4's Hollyoaks who got three awards. 4 STRICT EMBARGO – NOT FOR USE BEFORE 19:00 GMT, 03 June 2025 – EDITORIAL USE ONLY Mandatory Credit: Photo by ITV/Shutterstock (15340023a) Host Jane McDonald on stage at the Hackney Empire for the British Soap Awards 2025 The British Soap Awards, Show, London, UK – 31 May 2025 The British Soap Awards airs this Thursday […] Credit: Shutterstock Editorial

Sunbed Wars arrive in Benidorm after holidaymakers 'stampede' for best loungers

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page Summer is in swing – and so are battles for the best sun loungers in Brit holiday hotspots. The hotel used to film the TV show Benidorm is no exception – holidaymakers were seen queuing for up to two hours to get the best loungers. Scenes at the fictitious Solana Hotel from the ITV series were recorded at the Sol Pelícanos Ocas in Benidorm, Spain. Guest Louise Smith was shocked to see tourists standing in line for the best sunbathing spots, but the 'stampede' which followed was worse. She filmed a huge wave of sunbathers racing to the pool the second it opened. Despite having a large pool area, the eager guests could be seen racing to their desired beds after workers lifted the ropes. A wave of tourists were seen scrambling for the best sun loungers (Picture: Jam Press) Louise filmed from her balcony, and said after: 'Mick would definitely have a few choice words for them. I don't think any of the characters would approve. 'People started queuing from 7:30 am. I think it's ridiculous. You go on holiday to relax, not to wake up super early to claim a sunbed.' Other Brits were appaled by the behaviour. Kelly-Ann Wass said: 'I've been here for a week and gone down at 10 am and always managed to get a bed.' Jay added: 'Wouldn't call that a relaxing holiday fighting for sunbeds.' Days ago, holidaymakers managed to foil the plan of fellow Brits to secure sunbeds seven hours before their hotel pool opened. Whilst enjoying a late-night chat on their balcony, Mandy Boyd and her mates spotted some men she thought were taking a cheeky dip in the pool. However, on further inspection, the 34-year-old noticed the young men were attempting to secure the best beds at 2 am – seven hours before the pool opened. The group of four girls watched on as the men pulled out their sun loungers to try and secure the best spots. Mandy and her friends quietly waited on the balcony for the perfect moment to run down and take the towels. 'My cat had a psychic reading and his demanding requests were eye-opening'

With spiritual readings for pets increasing in popularity thanks to platforms like TikTok, Mirror Online tried out the trend with a leading celebrity mind reader, and the results were intriguing Animal psychic Jackie Weaver is renowned for being able to read the minds of pets around the world, and my cat seems to have a sixth sense too. Five minutes before Jackie arrives at my home, the normally laid back British Blue Shorthair is on high alert. Usually to be found hanging out by his food bowl or snoozing in his favourite cat carrier, Humphrey has scarpered by the time the psychic knocks on my door. ‌ With animal psychic readings said to be increasing in popularity, particularly on social media platforms like TikTok, Mirror Online decided to give it a whirl and naturally sought out the creme de la creme of experts. Jackie is a celebrity psychic who has done readings for Coronation Street legend Bill Roache's dogs and actor Matthew Rhys' horses - but can she accurately analyse my pride and joy? ‌ Luckily Humphrey's nosey side wins out and by the time I've learned all about the psychic's incredible career, he has reappeared - just in time for his reading. It's fair to say Humphrey wasn't too keen on having his thoughts read at first. When he met Jackie, he jumped onto the kitchen table, rolled onto his side looking at her enticingly to lure her in and then, when she stroked him, to my horror he went in for the kill. First came the warning bite before he gave the psychic's hand several whacks with his paw, with his tail lashing away furiously in the background. "You told me you weren't mean," laughed Jackie, as my angry cat turned upside down and much to my mortification, attacked her with his paws once again. Bumpy introduction over and soon they're soon 'chatting away'. "I'm going to ask him to tell me about himself and see what he comes up with," she says, laughingly telling me the first thing Humphrey tells her is: "I do lazy really well". Spot on! Humphrey says he often gets under my feet too which is also correct as he's forever trying to kill me on the stairs. My cat tells Jackie he enjoys it when my young daughter covers him with a blanket and draws pictures of him. He confesses to naughtily tapping her on the head with his paws occasionally too. ‌ I urge Jackie to ask Humphrey why he won't sleep in my daughter's bedroom, something she's keen to make happen and he says she'll need to be less hands on and stop talking in her sleep. "He's saying: 'I'm just looking'," says Jackie of the approach he wants her to take when it comes to her endless cuddles. "That's his advice to her." Humphrey says the word "biscuits" to Jackie too, which stuns me because my daughter used to sneak cat biscuits upstairs to try and tempt him into her room, at least until I put a stop to it. Humphrey is childlike himself, Jackie says, picking up on the fact he sleeps in my bed and likes to switch between the top and bottom ends of it. He tells her about his cat pals in the neighbourhood - a "small, cute tabby" who fits the description of my neighbour's cat and a "black and white tuxedo" moggie who pops in occasionally. ‌ So how would Humphrey describe his life? "Very easy indeed". His only complaint seems to be about the vet - he's keen to tell me his teeth and ears are absolutely fine and don't need examining anymore. His only ailment, he tells Jackie, is coughing up the occasional furball. The most surprising request Humphrey makes concerns the outdoors, with Jackie accurately picking up on the fact he spends most of his time in the back garden and rarely ventures out front. "Cat mint," Humphrey tells me through the psychic. Our cat used to have this plant in the garden of our old house and it seems he'd like it in our new one too. "I had no idea I was psychic for a long time," says Jackie of how she got started in the business. "I got to my early 40s and got stage four cancer, they only gave me four weeks to live. That was in 2005 and it wasn't my time to go, I had loads of chemotherapy. ‌ "At that point I had no physical strength. We had horses and dogs and I booked an animal communicator as a treat to come and talk to them. "She talked to my rescue dog who told her I could communicate too and the penny dropped. She showed me how to do it - when it comes into your head it often sounds like your own thoughts and you have to learn to distinguish between the two." Jackie is busier than ever, with her clients ranging from everyday people to high-flyers and famous faces. She focuses on spirit work and end of life, saying it's most rewarding and most needed. "Animals are so accepting of going to heaven," she says, detailing how she often passes on a dying pet's last request. ‌ Jackie has worked with a wide range of animals including horses, dogs, ferrets and even a kangaroo. She recently did a reading for her first bearded dragon. "It said to me: 'My skin's actually soft'," she said. "He looked very spiky on the picture but his owner confirmed the skin on his belly was very soft." Another client was a guide dog who became unusually stressed when his blind owner, who rode horses, took her wheelbarrow over to the manure heap at the stables. "She pulled the wheelbarrow behind her and the dog told me: 'She's not got a guide'," said Jackie. "I suggested she started pushing the wheelbarrow in front of her and her dog was fine watching her from then on." The psychic, who declined to say how much she charges and asked for a donation to an animal charity in lieu of a fee from us, works around the world mainly by phone. She is able to work from a picture of description or even just a description of an animal and is particularly sought after in the United States and Australia. While I tried to keep an open mind about Humphrey's reading I am a natural cynic, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I learned. Jackie's analysis was pretty accurate and while there were no huge revelations there were takeaways I will put into practie. Above all, by the time Jackie had left I was reassured I have a very happy cat. I can definitely see how her readings bring comfort to people whose pets have recently passed away and with a nation full of pet lovers, can only see the popularity of animal psychics increasing.
