Fire in Kilworth deemed suspicious

Middlesex OPP have confirmed that a structure fire in Kilworth is being considered suspicious.
According to police, the fire took place on Saturday morning at around 8:30 on Crestview Drive in Middlesex Centre.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The fire has been deemed suspicious, and the Middlesex OPP Crime Unit is investigating alongside the Office of the Fire Marshal.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Five busted in $500K-plus Windsor whisky heist — hunt continues for others

Article content The Windsor Police Service on Friday announced the arrests of five suspects, with the hunt continuing for two more tied to a $500,000-plus night-time alcohol heist in the city last month. Article content Article content Investigators said the suspects broke into a fenced-in facility located in the 3300 block of Devon Drive, located near Windsor's Devonshire Heights neighbourhood, shortly before 9 p.m. on May 17, 2025. Article content The Windsor police 'target base unit' launched an investigation and soon identified five suspects connected to the boozy heist. Officers determined that a cube van stolen earlier from a business in the 1000 block of Walker Road in Windsor was also connected to the crime. Article content Article content Following arrests in Windsor and Essex County, the five suspects face a raft of charges, including each being charged with a count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence: Jason Greenwood, 46 (nine criminal counts, including break and enter and theft; theft of motor vehicle; possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000); Anthony Nelson, 57 (six counts); Erica Nelson, 44 (four counts); Justin Vachon, 27 (two counts); and William Girard, 49 (one count). At the time of the incident, he wore a baseball hat and a dark-coloured hoodie. Article content The second suspect is approximately 30 years of age. Brantford men charged in multi-million-dollar contraband tobacco operation
A cache of seized contraband tobacco is seen in this image. (OPP) The investigation into a multi-million dollar contraband tobacco operation has resulted in four more arrests. Ontario Provincial Police said Abdelrahman Hasan, 28, and Saif Hasan, 20, both from Brantford, were arrested in April 2025, along with Omar Omran, a 25-year-old from Scarborough, and Nael Alwarasaneh, a 36-year-old from Burlington. All four were charged with trafficking contraband tobacco. According to media release sent out on Friday, the OPP's Contraband Tobacco Enforcement Team (CTET) began investigating 'a network of individuals based in the GTA' in January 2024. Then, on July 4 of that same year, they executed three search warrants in the GTA. OPP said they seized more than 800 kilograms of shisha tobacco, more than 16,000 contraband cigarettes and $30,000 in Canadian cash. The street value of the tobacco was estimated at around $90,000. Contraband tobacco bust Ontario police say they've seized $2.3 million worth of illegal shisha and cigarettes. (OPP) Another 16 search warrants were conducted in Brantford, Burlington, Mississauga, Vaughn and Scarborough on Oct. 24. In that bust, OPP said they found 19,000 kilograms of contraband tobacco, with an estimated street value of $2.3 million. They also seized a number of electronic devices. A Toronto man, 58-year-old Ali Mallah, was charged with trafficking contraband tobacco in November 2024.
