Karan Johar is overwhelmed as his film Kesari Chapter 2 has successfully completes a 50-day run in theatres. Taking to social media, the producer expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the audience's love and support. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday and R Madhavan in the lead roles.
Taking to his Instagram stories, Karan shared the video of Kesari Chapter 2 and wrote, ''50 Days And Roaring Strong. Kesari – Chapter 2." Ananya Panday also celebrated this special milestone. The Karan Johar-backed movie is doing well at the box office, earning over Rs 45 crore and a solid Rs 29 crore opening weekend. As a result, the makers are reportedly planning to extend their theatrical run before releasing on streaming platforms.
Backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Kesari Chapter 2 is a spiritual sequel to the 2019 patriotic film Kesari. It follows the story of advocate C. Sankaran Nair's legal battle against the British Empire following the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film is based on the book titled The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu and Pushpa Palat. Akshay Kumar portrays Sankaran Nair in the film, and R. Madhavan plays Advocate Neville McKinley, who represents the British Crown. Ananya Panday, on the other hand, plays Dilreet Gill, a key supporter in Nair's legal battle.
Since its theatrical release, the film has garnered significant buzz on social media. During a recent interview with Filmy Shilmy, Karan defended the idea of including the word, revealing that the team consulted historians before adding it to the film. He said, 'It was very important for us to include the 'f**k you' in the film because, for us, the whole point was to look the British in the eye and say 'f**k you' for what they had done. That was the courage we imbibed from Sankaran Nair's story, and it's the same courage we wanted to depict."
Furthermore, Akshay Kumar also spoke about his character, C Sankaran Nair, saying, 'Yes, I used that word. But what's surprising is that you noticed this, yet the phrase 'you are still a slave' wasn't seen as a major insult? I think there's no greater insult than that."
Regarding the characters, Akshay Kumar plays Indian statesman and lawyer C. Sankaran Nair, who took a bold stand against British rule after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Ananya Panday plays Dilreet Gill, who was instrumental in supporting Nair during his legal battle in the British court. R Madhavan plays Neville McKinley, the British representative opposite Kumar's character. The film has an A certification.
