‘Übermensch' Malaysia concert: G‑Dragon faces backlash, local fans upset over scalping and poor crowd engagement

Time of India2 days ago
K-pop star G‑Dragon recently performed in Kuala Lumpur on July 19 and 20, and fans were very excited for his comeback. But instead of a joyful experience, many Malaysian fans felt disappointed.
G‑Dragon's concert left fans disappointed
G‑Dragon's much awaited Übermensch concert in Kuala Lumpur took place on July 19 and 20, and while it was supposed to be a special comeback for Malaysian fans, the experience turned out to be frustrating for many, despite the high expectations, fans were left upset due to issues with ticket scalping, empty VIP seats, a quiet crowd, and the feeling that local fans were ignored.
Even before the concert started, problems began with the ticket sales.
Many fans complained that it was nearly impossible to buy tickets and accused scalpers of buying them in bulk. Organisers, Star Planet, did try to address this by re-releasing a small number of tickets. Though the event was officially sold out, many seats were visibly empty when the show began. This led people to believe that scalpers failed to resell the tickets, leaving gaps in the audience.
Adding to the suspicion, fans saw lots of VIP lanyards left behind at the registration counter, still unclaimed even after the concert had started and though some of those seats were eventually filled, fans believed they were mostly taken by international visitors rather than Malaysians and upset the local crowd, who felt left out of their own country's event.
Lack of excitement and energy during the show
And another thing that disappointed fans was the lack of excitement and energy during the whole show. Usually, K‑pop concerts in Malaysia are full of loud cheers and a lively atmosphere but this time it's not the same even when G‑Dragon spoke a few lines in Malay to connect with the audience, the reaction was quite dull. Some believe this was because many of the people in the crowd were foreigners who didn't understand the language, which might explain the lack of response.
Things got emotional
As with most sold-out concerts, many fans who couldn't get tickets gathered outside the venue, just hoping to hear or see a bit of the performance. But this time, things got emotional. Videos on TikTok showed fans chanting and even booing, asking the organisers to let them at least peek inside. The mood turned emotional when members of G‑Dragon's team came out to meet the fans. They collected letters and messages for G‑Dragon from the people waiting outside.
Some fans were even seen crying as they shared how much they loved him and how sad they were to miss the show.
These emotional clips quickly went viral online, and many fans called out the organisers for not doing more to support local fans who had been waiting for years for G‑Dragon's comeback.
Organisers have not responded to the criticism
So far, the organisers, Star Planet Malaysia, have not responded to the criticism or released any official statement. Although G‑Dragon's performance and stage setup were praised, the overall experience left many Malaysian fans heartbroken. Now, fans hope that if G‑Dragon or BIGBANG ever return to Malaysia again, the organisers will ensure better planning and fairer treatment for local supporters.

Why Lee Soo Hyuk's K-Drama Show S Line Is Becoming A Global Sensation

Last Updated: Even without support from a major OTT platform, S Line became a hot topic online after the show made history at Cannes. The new K-drama S Line grabbed attention even before its release earlier this month for its bold take on sexual relationships. Imagine your past romances being exposed by glowing red lines above your head. That's the central premise of this intriguing series. Starring Lee Soo-hyuk, Lee Da-hee, and Arin, the drama uses this unique concept to unravel hidden secrets. But when a shocking murder takes place, the story shifts into a gripping mystery. As S Line approaches its final episode this week, fans are hooked and eagerly waiting to see how it all unfolds. S Line Plot: As per My Drama List, S Line 'tells the story of a mysterious red line that appears above people's heads, connecting them to those they've had sexual relations with. Han Ji Uk is a detective who wants to discover the truth about the mysterious red line. Lee Gyu Jin is a quirky high school teacher, and Sin Hyeon Hop is a high school student who has been able to see the red line since birth." Before S Line premiered, director Ahn Joo-young spoke about the creative choices made while turning the webtoon into a drama during the press conference. As per the Korean Herald, he explained, 'When we first encountered the work and began the project, we wondered whether it would be realistically possible to visually depict a world covered in S Lines. So, we decided to retain the universe, but express it in a different way. That led to the idea that only some people could see the S Lines, and that they could be seen through glasses as a medium." 'I thought the original work was ultimately a story about people. It mostly focuses on how people change when the lines appear and others begin to see them. I believed the main theme was how new desires emerge in addition to human nature, so I wanted to reflect those changes through the characters via the S Lines. Based on that, we also created new characters," Ahn Joo-young added. Cannes: Even without support from a major OTT platform, S Line became a hot topic online after the show made history at Cannes. The drama premiered its first two episodes at Canneseries, the Cannes International Series Festival, which provides a platform for top global TV shows. Where to Watch: S Line is not available on Netflix or Amazon Prime, but it can be watched on Wavve in India. However, it might still be limited due to restrictions in some areas. Park Hyung Sik Calls BTS' Kim Taehyung ‘Immature Maknae', Fans React

Last Updated: Park Hyung Sik was comparing all the members of the Wooga Squad to a family when he tagged V as the 'immature maknae'. It's no secret that Kim Taehyung, aka V, shares close friendship with his Wooga Squad, comprising actors Park Seo Joon, Park Hyung-sik, Choi Woo Shik and rapper Peakboy. He has known them since they worked together on the K-drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. Despite their strong bond, a new clip that surfaced on social media has raised questions about the friendship between V and Hyung Sik. Park Hyung Sik Calls V 'Immature Maknae' In the clip, the Doctor Slump actor discusses the dynamics of Wooga Squad and explains the roles of each member in the tight-knit group. The video was part of an interview as part of his solo fan meeting promotions in 2024. Hyung Sik began comparing each one with a family member, saying, 'Seojoon hyung is like the father figure, Peakboy hyung is like the eldest son, Wooshik hyung is the second older brother, the playful one, and V is the immature maknae." Talking about his role in the group, he added, 'I feel like I play the role of the mother. It's not that I want to be, but I often find myself taking care of them and helping them." Regardless of their roles, Hyung Sik mentioned that they always love and support each other, adding, 'I think it's because we always encourage each other, always support one another wholeheartedly." Hyungsik is the 'mother' of the Wooga squad ❤️ Honestly, I'm not surprised at all, he's always so loving, caring and has an old gentle soul…✨ BTS V's Fans Started Reacting To The Clip Angrily As expected, the clip surely garnered attention from V's fans, who started reacting to it angrily. One fan said, 'Let's be for real now, y'all would have fought tooth and nail if it were a BTS member who called him immature." Another added, 'He obviously said it jokingly because they're friends, but if one of the members ever called Taehyung 'immature,' you just know his solos would drag that member to hell and back, insisting the members hate him and he should leave bts altogether." Meanwhile, some also came out in support of Hyung Sik, highlighting the loving bond between the members of the Wooga Squad. 'Tell me u don't know a f–k abt Wooga members' bond without telling, they love and care for each other even more than ur bts members have between them. They treat Tae like a baby, they promote his music too, they visited him before going to military and after his discharge too," one user mentioned. Did Park Hyung Sik Really Mean That BTS' V Is Immature? If you ask us, we would say not at all. Hyung Sik calling V 'immature maknae (youngest member)" has been totally taken out of context. The Strong Girl Bong-Soon meant it in a playful way, suggesting that he is the one to fool around the most. V has looked up to the actor as a supportive senior. Meanwhile, Hyung Sik has also repeatedly expressed his love for V by cheering for his solo endeavours. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
