Both Sena factions visit Worli to celebrate Narali Purnima

Time of India4 days ago
Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA
Aaditya Thackeray
and DCM
Eknath Shinde
were both in Worli Koliwada on the occasion of Narali Purnima. While both were in Worli at the same time on Friday evening, they didn't come face to face.
Aaditya, an MLA from Worli, was there to celebrate Narali Purnima with the Koli community.
Shinde was also in Worli to meet the Koli community along with former Sena corporators from Worli. Both leaders were accompanied by huge crowds, and workers from both parties chanted slogans. However, both Sena factions avoided any confrontation.
"We don't give any importance to such people. Rahul Gandhi exposed the Election Commission (EC).
So now we know how these people were in govt and came to power. They are all fake," Aaditya said. Both Shinde and Aaditya donned the traditional Koli community attire, danced with members of the community, and took part in celebratory processions.
The Shinde Sena fielded MP Milind Deora against Aaditya from Worli in the 2024 assembly polls, but Milind lost. Political observers said that with the BMC elections slated for October or November this year, the visits gained political significance.

Narali Poornima is a ceremonial day observed by fishing communities in Maharashtra, particularly around Mumbai and the Konkan coast. It is held on the full-moon day of the Hindu month of Shravan, which falls around July or August. Offerings such as rice, flowers, and coconuts are offered to Lord Varuna, the god of the ocean and waters. Another ceremony involves women tying a rakhi or amulet on the wrists of their brothers.

Foreign India

A former associate editor with the Times of India, Jug Suraiya writes two regular columns for the print edition, Jugular Vein, which appears every Friday, and Second Opinion, which appears on Wednesdays. His blog takes a contrarian view of topical and timeless issues, political, social, economic and speculative. LESS ... MORE If the English language is alien to us, then so is much of what we consider integral to us Is Nagaland not part of India but a foreign country, and are the citizens of that state foreigners? Is the Indian Constitution written in a foreign language? If asked these questions, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's unequivocal response would be 'Yes.' In a recent exchange in Lok Sabha with members of DMK, the saffron politician said he would not speak in English as it was a foreign language, and by promoting English, we would become the 'slaves' of England once again. The MP's linguistic observations are subject to the law of unintended, and in this case very unfortunate, consequences. If English is indeed a foreign language then Nagaland, which has English as its official state language, must be by the MP's lingual definition, no longer part of the Indian Republic, but a foreign country. The second unintended consequence concerns the Indian Constitution that is not only written in English but also enshrines that language as the official link language of the country. In the BJP MP's view, is the Constitution of India, on which the entire structure of the Republic is founded, a foreign document embodying a foreign, un-Indian sovereignty? The MP is fortunate that he enjoys an entitlement called parliamentary privilege, which basically means that members of Parliament can say whatever they like, without fear of punitive action being taken against them. However, if common citizens like you or I were to air the MP's views in public, we might well be liable to prosecution for sedition by causing the state of Nagaland to secede from the country, and for deeming by implication that the Indian Constitution is unconstitutional, thereby not only challenging the validity of the Indian state, but eliminating it in toto. But if the MP effectively invalidates the Constitution, then he also invalidates himself as an MP, a position he enjoys because of the Constitution. In which case does Parliamentary privilege get ruled out, and sedition get ruled in? And it's all the fault of that damn foreign language. Never stop learning, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu tells constituency coordinators

Vijayawada: Staying hungry to learn new things will make success follow your path, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said while giving a pep talk to young professionals who were appointed as coordinators for the constituency vision plan and P4 on Tuesday. Giving the example of his own life, Naidu explained the importance of being a constant learner. "I come from a village without electricity, and I brought reforms in electricity in united Andhra Pradesh, which changed the face of the state. Development is possible only when we constantly think of finding new ways to bring change," he said. The state govt has appointed 175 young professionals, one in each of the 175 constituencies, for effective implementation of constituency development plans. These professionals will work in line with the constituency-wise vision documents prepared as part of Swarna Andhra Vision 2047. The planning dept gave a week-long training to the young professionals on their roles and responsibilities. The CM met them after they completed training on Tuesday. Noting that appointing a young professional for each constituency is a new approach, he asked them to identify the strengths of each constituency depending on the resources available and to identify the priorities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo He asked them to coordinate with local public representatives and a team of nine members from various govt depts to prepare plans of action for constituency development. Naidu cautioned them that there will be struggles in the beginning, and they should overcome them with better coordination. "Stay focused on your goals. Everyone should be a lifelong learner and think innovatively. Do not perform duties as just a job," he said, explaining how he worked when he became chief minister for the first time in 1995. "Everyone should say that the chief minister has sent good people to their constituency. Earn a good name for yourself and bring a good name to me." The planning dept handed over appointment letters to the 175 young professionals who completed their training. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Day after flag-hoisting snub, Shinde and Gogawale skip cabinet meet

Mumbai: A day after the state govt did not name Shiv Sena ministers for the flag-hoisting programmes on Independence Day in Raigad and Nashik, deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde and cabinet member Bharat Gogawale skipped the cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Gogawale said he was firm on becoming tne guardian minister of Raigad, and hoisting the national flag did not make NCP minister Aditi Tatkare the guardian minister of Raigad. Gogawale and Shiv Sena minister Dada Bhuse, who is vying to become guardian minister of Nashik district, said they should get to hoist the national flag in Raigad and Nashik, respectively, since the two districts had no guardian minister so far. Shiv Sena functionaries said both Shinde and Gogawale had informed the chief minister's office that they would not attend the cabinet meeting on Tuesday since they were not in the city. The opposition MVA slammed the state govt over failing to appoint guardian ministers for Raigad and Nashik districts. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said Shinde was shown his place and claimed that the deputy chief minister had complained to Union home minister Amit Shah about the matter. Gogawale said he would accept whatever decision the seniors had taken for the flag-hoisting. "We think that the seniors will take a decision after the flag-hoisting. Sunil Tatkare and Eknath Shinde must have met to discuss some state matters. But I did not ask what was discussed. We never ask leaders where they are going or why. I have no objection to the flag-hoisting being done by Aditi Tatkare. We have to accept the decision taken by the seniors," Gogawale said. Shiv Sena minister Uday Samant said that no politics should be brought into national days like Independence Day. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
