RTA's AI-Powered Smart Monitoring System Transforms Driving School Oversight in Dubai
Developed by the Licensing Activities Monitoring Department, the system has monitored nearly 1.73 million training sessions for over 245,000 trainees in just seven months—a 14-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
The system uses advanced machine learning and computer vision through smart cameras installed in training vehicles to detect violations such as mobile phone usage, unfastened seat belts, inappropriate attire, and driver distractions. These real-time insights, managed via RTA's Licensing Intelligent Operations Centre and inspectors' tablets, have cut inspection times from 20 minutes to just one minute and increased the detection of violations by five times.
As part of Dubai's digital transformation agenda, the RTA plans to integrate predictive analytics and instructor performance data into the system to further enhance training quality and compliance. The system reinforces RTA's commitment to building a safe, efficient, and smart mobility ecosystem that supports high professional standards in driver training.
