‘Embracing dictatorship...': Rupali Ganguly schools TMC leader Nilanjan Das for calling her a ‘flop actress'
Rupali Ganguly schools TMC leader Nilanjan Das
The background
The conversation started when Mamata Banerjee posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the BJP's actions in Assam. Rupali Ganguly, known for speaking out on political issues, responded by asking the Chief Minister to focus on problems in West Bengal instead and avoid shedding 'crocodile tears'.
A part of her post read, 'From Sandeshkhali to Murshidabad, the only atrocities on Bengalis are happening under her watch.'
Before shedding crocodile tears for Bengalis in other states, Mamata Didi must answer who will protect Bengalis in West Bengal itself? From Sandeshkhali to Murshidabad, the only atrocities on Bengalis are happening under her watch. Bengal has never been more unsafe for its own… https://t.co/c70IVUbNCl
Here's what's happening now
Reacting to this, TMC leader called Rupali a flop actress and wrote, 'The seniormost stateswoman of India doesn't need lectures from a flop soap actress. FO!.'
Rupali hit back saying, 'Isn't your so-called 'senior-most stateswoman' a public servant, or she's a dictator who can't be questioned. But if you've already accepted her tyranny instead of her duty to the people, then congratulations on embracing dictatorship. Classic TMC behaviour!'

Many people came out in support of Rupali, agreeing with her stance and praising how sharp and confident she has become on X. Some users also called out the TMC leader for allegedly using the term "FO" while referring to the actress, condemning the personal attack.
Rupali Ganguly's political career and top TV shows
Rupali Ganguly entered politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in May 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. This marked a major shift in her career, transitioning from the entertainment industry to public service. She began her journey in front of the camera as a child artist in the 1985 film Saaheb and gradually rose to prominence through her work in television.
She gained widespread recognition with roles in popular shows like Sanjivani and the iconic comedy series Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, where her character Monisha became a fan favorite for her humorous and relatable portrayal. However, her role as the lead in Anupamaa brought her unparalleled success, making her one of the most admired and highest-paid actresses on Indian television. Her character's strength and emotional depth struck a chord with viewers nationwide.

Warming up to outlanders the Sangh way
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) might celebrate its overtures to communities and individuals outside its ideological perimeter—the latest being Sarsanghachalak Mohanrao Bhagwat's session with a congregation of Islamic clerics, ostensibly to mitigate Muslim alienation and antipathy to the Sangh fraternity, especially the BJP. But make no mistake. When it comes to inducting and accommodating heavyhitters from outside the saffron clan's circumference, the RSS freezes. The BJP's spectacular success in electoral politics doubtless forced the Sangh to try and assimilate parivar outsiders who came with a cachet that could enhance the BJP's appeal and possibly its votes, like a celebrity from the cinema world or an individual belonging to a caste outside the BJP's purview. The Sangh's— and, by extension, the BJP's—net to snag trophies is spread across a vast expanse. However, the welcome carries a quid pro quo—it is not one-sided, marked with a profusion of garlands and warm words. The red lines drawn by the Sangh are firmly etched beneath the ceremonial trappings. A lateral entrant must adhere to the precepts and practices laid down by the family head, and no dodging is brooked. Insubordination, even from a faithful, is never tolerated. Over time, some lateral entrants stayed the course, willingly or unwillingly; but those who ostensibly felt suffocated by the rigours of school-masterly discipline strayed away, quit and at times disappeared into oblivion. The exit of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who last week resigned as the Vice President and chairman of the Rajya Sabha, is still riddled with unanswered questions, although his resignation letter maintained the departure was prompted by health concerns. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's belated expression of commiseration with Dhankhar revealed how angry the PM was. Dhankhar was ushered into the BJP in 2003 as a prize catch from the opposition (he had served the Congress and the Janata Dal) and a peasant leader from the powerful Jat community.

Congress protests arrest of nuns in Chhattisgarh and alleges violation of rights
Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC President Sunny Joseph has urged the Governor to inform the central govt about the public outcry in Kerala against the BJP govt's action of arresting and jailing two Malayali nuns in Chhattisgarh. He was speaking during a protest march led by the KPCC to Raj Bhavan, opposing the arrest of the nuns and the unconstitutional actions of the BJP regime. The Chhattisgarh govt filed false charges against the nuns, altering the FIR to deny them bail by adding non-existent sections. The BJP's oppressive rule challenges the rule of law, and the arrest of the nuns is unconstitutional. It is unfortunate that the chief minister of Chhattisgarh is justifying it. The BJP govt's actions, which violate and deny the constitutional and fundamental rights guaranteed to citizens, are shameful. Bajrang Dal activists threatened and abused the nuns while the police remained mute spectators, Sunny Joseph said. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, along with INDIA bloc MPs, raised strong protests in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. A group of UDF MPs visited the nuns in jail and demanded the Chhattisgarh govt withdraw the false case, but they refused. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like When Knee Pain Hits, Start Eating These Foods, and Feel Your Pain Go Away (It's Genius) Read More Undo The Congress will continue to raise strong protests nationwide, Sunny Joseph added. Opposition Leader V D Satheesan urged that Kerala's protest against the jailing of nuns should be conveyed to the prime minister and the Chhattisgarh govt by the chief minister without further delay. The Chhattisgarh govt unjustly jailed nuns engaged in charitable work for the common people. The Sangh Parivar challenges religious freedom, and intolerance is their hallmark. They attempt to maintain power by inciting divisions among people for political gain. The events in Chhattisgarh are the greatest example of what happens to religious minorities and common people when Congress is out of power. Our country has become a place where Christians are denied religious and prayer freedom, damaging India's international image, Satheesan added. Under BJP rule, atrocities against Christians have increased in the country. A group of UDF MPs and MLAs, along with former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, visited the nuns. The Congress will continue its protest until the nuns are granted bail, the opposition leader clarified.

CM: Soon, law to prevent homes from being built illegally
The chief minister was responding to a question by BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said in the assembly that legislation will be brought in soon to prevent any more houses from being constructed illegally. Sawant said the state will again open the window under the existing act to enable locals to legalise their houses constructed on land owned by them. Considering the high court order on illegal constructions, Sawant said state govt has warned local bodies to act only against constructions that have come up on land earmarked for national highways, state highways, or major district roads. Sawant said that the high court order on illegal constructions pertains only to such structures. The CM said that govt had earlier commenced the process of issuing enabling house numbers (EHN) for structures that were in existence but did not have house numbers. He said this helped panchayats collect garbage and house taxes. 'We will be opening the window again, and those who have taken EHN will be able to legalise their houses,' Sawant said. Panchayat minister Mauvin Godinho said that over 33,000 houses have been issued EHN so far and said that an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 houses remain without any house number or EHN. Godinho urged owners of such houses to come forward for the allotment of EHN as they help the panchayats provide facilities such as drains and road access. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing Older Women should Avoid Learn More Undo 'People feel that if they register now, their houses will be considered to have been in existence only from the time EHN were given,' Godinho said. 'The legalisation process is completely different. People built the houses on their own land some 30 to 40 years ago, and the laws came in later.' He said, 'In some of these cases, the court has even issued orders to demolish the houses because they do not have house numbers. EHN are issued for such houses.' Mayem MLA Premendra Shet said that the finance department has issued a circular which does away with the benefits of EHN. Godinho promised to grant a relaxation under the circular to enable the benefits of EHN to continue.
