To retain selection chances beyond October, they may be required to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's domestic one-day competition starting in December - a scenario that could accelerate their formal retirements from the format.

Australia's decision to bowl backfired as South Africa powered to a massive 218-7 on the back of Brevis' maiden century in international cricket. Brevis, who already holds the South African domestic record for the highest T20 score of 162, put on a mesmerising display in only his ninth T20I. He hit 12 fours and eight sixes for a total of 96 runs in boundaries and was excellent down the ground. More than half of his runs - 66 - were scored in the 'V', including six sixes and all but single-handedly built South Africa's total. Brevis, who was dropped on 56, scored 91 of the 126 in a fourth-wicket partnership with Tristan Stubbs. The 22-year-old rescued South Africa from a shaky 57-3 and dominated a 126-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs (31). Gavaskar questions Tendulkar, Anderson snub
Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar on Monday criticised the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for not inviting cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson to the presentation ceremony of the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. In his column for an Indian newspaper, Gavaskar questioned whether Tendulkar and Anderson were simply overlooked or deliberately not invited. Gavaskar expressed disappointment over the absence of the two icons after whom the trophy is named, from the post-match ceremony at The Oval. "This was the first-ever series named after Sachin Tendulkar and Jimmy Anderson, two of cricket's greatest legends. One would have expected both to be present to hand the trophy to the captains, especially since the series ended in a draw," he wrote. Gavaskar drew parallels with his own exclusion from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy presentation in Australia earlier this year, where only Allan Border was present because the hosts had won. "To the best of one's knowledge, both were in England at the time. So, were they simply not invited? Or was this similar to what happened in Australia earlier this year, when only Allan Border was asked to present the Border-Gavaskar Trophy because Australia had won the series?" Gavaskar said.
