Free agent LHP Julio Urias suspended by MLB
March 21 - Former Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias has been suspended through the 2025 All-Star break for his second violation of MLB's policy against domestic violence, league commissioner Rob Manfred announced Friday.
Urias, 28, hasn't pitched in the majors in more than 18 months. The suspension stems from an incident outside of BMO Stadium in Los Angeles following an MLS game Sept. 3, 2023, in which Urias and his wife were involved a physical altercation.
In May of 2024, Urias pleaded no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery charges related to that incident, per Los Angeles Superior Court records. He was placed on probation for 36 months and was required to complete 30 hours of community service, participate in a domestic violence counseling program and honor the victim's protective order.
"The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball has completed its investigation into allegations that free agent pitcher Julio Urias violated Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy," Manfred said in a statement. 'Having reviewed all of the available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Urias violated our Policy and that discipline is appropriate."
Urias is the first player to be suspended twice under MLB's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy which was created in 2015. After a separate incident in 2019, he was suspended 20 games under the policy. He was not criminally charged in that incident.
Urias was placed on administrative leave by the Dodgers following the September 2023 incident and became a free agent when his contract expired at the end of that season.
Urias' latest suspension will be officially lifted on July 17, at which point he would be eligible to sign with any MLB team.
A native of Mexico, Urias is able to sign with any team in the Mexican League given his free agent status.
Urias was 11-8 with a 4.60 ERA in 21 starts in 2023 before his season came to an end. His ERA was more than double his National League-leading 2.16 mark in 2022. In eight major league seasons, Urias is 60-25 with a 3.11 ERA in 158 appearances (122 starts). He recorded the last out of the 2020 World Series.

June 14 - Danny Jansen's two-run homer capped a six-run sixth inning Friday night as the Tampa Bay Rays handed the New York Mets a rare home loss with a 7-5 decision in the opener of a three-game set. Jansen's sixth homer of the year scored Kameron Misner and made a winner of former New York pitcher Eric Orze (1-0), who earned his first MLB win with an inning of scoreless relief. Bradley's error set the stage for a two-run New York fourth that featured Marte lashing an RBI infield single off Bradley's leg to tie it. Tyrone Taylor reached on a fielder's choice to score the tiebreaking run. Two walks sandwiched around Aranda's error at first teed up the Mets in the fifth. Gleyber Torres, Riley Greene slug Tigers past Reds
June 14 - Riley Greene homered and drove in four runs, Gleyber Torres blasted a pair of solo homers and the host Detroit Tigers rolled past the Cincinnati Reds, 11-5, on Friday. Torres drove in three runs while Javier Baez had three hits, including a homer, scored three runs and drove in two more. Jake Rogers added two hits and drove in two runs. Keider Montero (3-1) gave up two runs in five innings to pick up the win. TJ Friedl and Elly Da La Cruz homered for Cincinnati. De La Cruz and Tyler Stephenson each had three hits and two RBIs. Nick Martinez (4-7) gave up four runs in five innings in the loss. Torres, leading off the bottom of the first, ambushed the first pitch he saw from Martinez, smacking a fastball over the left field wall. Detroit left two runners stranded in the second. Friedl then led off the third by ripping a hanging Montero slider over the right field wall. With two out in the third, Greene crushed a Martinez fastball over the visitors' bullpen in left-center field to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. The Reds squandered an opportunity in the fourth. Singles by Spencer Steer, Connor Joe and Matt McLain loaded the bases with two out. Friedl popped up a 2-2 fastball from Montero to leave them stranded. Baez gave Detroit some breathing room in the bottom of the inning when he lofted a Martinez changeup that bounced off the top of the left field wall and into the stands. Braves blast Rockies thanks to HRs from Michael Harris II, Marcell Ozuna
June 14 - Michael Harris II and Marcell Ozuna both hit late-inning three-run homers to help the Atlanta Braves come back and defeat the visiting Colorado Rockies 12-4 on Friday in the opener of their three-game series. Atlanta has won three of four and Colorado has lost six of its last seven. Atlanta leads the season series 3-1. Atlanta tied the game 4-4 with two outs in the sixth inning when Harris hit a three-run homer, his sixth, into the right field seats off reliever Jake Bird, who had not allowed an earned run in his last 10 outings. It was the third time in six games that Harris has homered. Ozuna gave the Braves the lead in the seventh with two out. His home run, his 11th and first since June 1, against reliever Victor Vodnik (1-2) landed in the front row of the left-field bleachers. He added a sacrifice fly in the eighth. The winning pitcher was Enyel De Los Santos (2-2). Raisel Iglesias and Dylan Lee both pitched a scoreless inning to finish the game. Neither starting pitcher figured in the decision. Atlanta's Bryce Elder pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Colorado's German Marquez worked five innings and allowed one run on six hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. The Rockies scored two runs in the first inning when Ryan McMahon caught a center-cut changeup and drove it 441 feet to dead center field for a two-run homer. It was McMahon's ninth home run, the third in his last six games. He went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. The Braves got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Ronald Acuna Jr. scored on Matt Olson's sacrifice fly to shallow left field. Acuna went 3-for-4 and stole his first base of the season. Colorado scored two more times in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead and knocked Elder out of the game. Hunter Goodman and McMahon both had RBI singles.
