Modi Tamil Nadu visit boosts BJP-AIADMK alliance morale
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to Tamil Nadu has come as a morale booster not just for BJP workers but also for AIADMK rank and file.
His meeting with AIADMK netas, including
, at the airport is being seen as a reaffirmation of the BJPAIADMK alliance amid recent public disagreements over power-sharing.

Modi's decision to not engage with O Panneerselvam has further reassured AIADMK cadres that BJP values its partnership ahead of the 2026 polls.
For BJP workers, Modi's participation in Aadi Thiruvathirai festival, highlighting Chola glory, served as a cultural counterpoint to DMK's Keeladi narrative, which accuses BJP of trying to whitewash Tamil Nadu's rich past.
AIADMK is upbeat, especially since not only EPS but also second-rung netas like K P Munusamy, S P Velumani, and Thalavai Sundaram were permitted to receive Modi at the airport.
'By rejecting OPS's request, Modi has sent a signal — only those parties we are comfortable with will be part of alliance,' said senior AIADMK neta S Semmalai.
BJP functionaries, too, say the visit has helped build agrassroots-level bond. Some AIADMK cadres who earlier felt EPS was being arm-twisted now see the partnership as voluntary and valued.

We'll reciprocate in all ways possible,' said Sriram Shankar, BJP's Trichy district chief. Netas say they are more cautious about their remarks, aware that their actions impact alliance chemistry.
Likewise, AIADMK workers in Trichy say their hesitations about working with BJP have eased after the visit. Many now want more such visits to smoothen ties. 'We'll join BJP roadshows in future too,' said one functionary.

To cement this rapport further, BJP state chief Nainar Nagenthran will host a feast in Tirunelveli for EPS and AIADMK netas during EPS's statewide tour. Initially scheduled for Aug 3, the feast was postponed due to Modi's visit but will soon take place.

"I am a Hindu," Mr Adhikari is heard telling the man and threatening to skin him alive. Munsi Ali told the media he was an active Trinamool Congress worker and even worked as a driver for an MLA previously. "I have been very disturbed with the news of migrant workers being attacked in various parts of the country," he said. "When I heard Suvendu Adhikari was coming here, I thought I should ask him why are migrants being targeted in BJP-ruled states. Instead, he tried to force me to say "Jai Sri Ram". But even if he cuts my throat, I will not say it. 'Joy Bangla' is the chant of our state and I will say it repeatedly," said Munsi. The "Joy Bangla" slogan is now a counter to the BJP's "Jai Shri Ram". Initially, on International Mother Language Day in 2021, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had asked people to say 'Joy Bangla' on phone instead of "Hello". Mr Ali also claimed Suvendu Adhikari's securitymen had hit him with batons, due to which he fell on the road and bruised his hand. "He kept saying he is a Hindu and directed his Central security force personnel to hit me. His Personal Attendant, a bouncer and security men shoved me on the road and hit me," added Mr Ali.

BJP members seek urgent relief from CM
Mangaluru: BJP MP and legislators from Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday submitted a petition to chief minister Siddaramaiah, urging swift intervention to resolve the ongoing crisis surrounding the licensing and supply of laterite stones and sand in the coastal region. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The petition highlighted that both construction and agricultural sectors took a severe hit due to what they termed as "unscientific and restrictive policies" implemented by the state govt. Traditionally, laterite stones extracted from the topsoil in coastal and Malnad regions were manually cut and shaped into bricks. However, with labour shortages in recent years, mechanisation became common. The BJP brass argued that the state's decision to bring laterite quarrying under the purview of the department of mines and geology led to regulatory bottlenecks, causing a burden to landowners and workers, while opening the door to corruption involving officials. They demanded that laterite quarrying be removed from the mines department's control, and that a simplified licensing system be introduced. The petition also questioned the high royalty rate of Rs 290 per tonne charged in Karnataka, compared to Rs 32 per tonne in Kerala, and sought an immediate reduction of the 96% royalty to just 10%, stating that the current rates were making the trade unviable. The petition also flagged the worsening sand shortage in the region. They urged the govt to frame a separate sand policy for the region, allowing for localised solutions and streamlined legal processes for sand extraction and transportation. Recommendations included empowering local bodies to issue permits for the collection of naturally deposited sand from river beds and setting up taluk-level sand management committees to identify and regulate legal mining zones.

AMMK, AIADMK set aside differences to oust DMK: TTV
Trichy: AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran said in Trichy on Wednesday that their common goal of ousting the DMK remains, despite differences of opinion with AIADMK . He said at a press conference that his party had been a member of NDA before AIADMK rejoined. Asked if AMMK feels its existence is under threat after AIADMK joined NDA, Dhinakaran said it is the DMK that feels threatened by the NDA. "Our goal is to oust DMK from power. Amma's party (AIADMK) has joined with the same ambition. We may have had our differences with the party's leadership. But, we have set them aside for the common goal," he said. Asked about AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami's comment that 'alliance is about AIADMK and BJP, while Dhinakaran is claiming to be a member,' he said AMMK and O Panneerselvam were part of NDA when the alliance faced the general elections, while AIADMK contested separately. "It is wrong to say that the Union govt did not provide grants to the state govt for not adopting the three-language formula," he said in response to OPS's criticism of the Centre in this regard. "People should be allowed to learn a third language if they prefer. We will oppose if the Union govt mandates Hindi as the third language," he said. On EPS's response that 'time will answer' the question of reinducting TTV Dhinakaran in AIADMK, TTV said , "Time will not answer. I will answer myself in December when the alliance takes shape." He also objected to renaming Kallar hostels as social justice hostels, saying, "Changing names does not mean anything. Our minds should change."
