Cheating Coronation Street pair ‘exposed' as two legends witness their antics

Metro14-06-2025
There's been an irresistible attraction between Abi Webster (Sally Carman) and Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) ever since the latter arrived in Coronation Street. A small car accident in Freshco's car park saw sparks flying between the two as they flirted furiously, although Abi did point out at the outset that she was married.
To her horror, the man she'd been flirting with turned up in the Street not long after, and she discovered that he was, in fact, Kevin (Michael Le Vell)'s brother who'd been living in Germany.
Since then the two have tried to keep a lid on their feelings for each other, with Abi adamant that she won't do anything to hurt Kevin, who's going through cancer treatment. Carl hasn't given up, though, and seems to think it's only a matter of time before he and Abi are together.
As Sally Carman told us: 'I'm reading [the scripts] thinking poor Kevin, but I'm also thinking poor Abi because she's really fighting it, telling him to go away and leave her alone but he's just pursuing her relentlessly.'
There have been plenty of charged moments between the two, and any time they're in the same room together it's obvious to viewers that there are sparks between them. So far, however, they've managed to avoid these moments being noticed by anyone else.
Until now. In upcoming episodes we'll see their guard slip and their behaviour around each other is noticed by the two people who are closest to them – Debbie (Sue Devaney), and Kevin himself. Oh 'eck.
Poor Kevin is about to go for another chemo session and he's understandably feeling a bit fragile. He thanks Abi and Carl for their support, saying he couldn't cope as well as he is doing without them being in his corner. Abi and Carl exchange another awkward look – and this time Kevin notices. He doesn't say anything, but he's obviously a bit thrown by what he's just witnessed and he tries to make sense of it.

The following day, Carl and Abi have one of their hushed conversations where Carl tries to persuade Abi that they're meant to be together and she shouldn't hesitate because of Kevin.
This time the person who notices what's going on is Debbie. To make things even more awkward, Carl and Abi realise that Debbie has seen them having this conversation and they know she's sharp enough to put two and two together and she won't stand back and see Kevin get hurt.

Christmas Carol adaptation to feature Scrooge who ‘despises refugees'

Musical movie Christmas Karma stars The Big Bang Theory's Kunal Nayyar as a contemporary Scrooge, called Mr Sood, who is haunted by three ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, played by Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, Pose actor Billy Porter and British singer Boy George. Bend It Like Beckham's Gurinder Chadha hopes the audience will be invested in the transformation of Mr Sood, and his chance to be a part of a society that doesn't allow 'Scrooges, twisted and shaped by prejudice, to grow.' A post shared by Christmas Karma (@christmaskarmamovie) Former EastEnders actor Danny Dyer, singer Pixie Lott, Bridgerton star Charithra Chandran, Downton Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville and Sanditon's Leo Suter also star in the movie. Chadha, 65, said in her director's statement: 'Our Scrooge, called Sood, is a rich British Indian who despises poor people and refugees in particular.' 'Sood has decided that immense wealth brings him status and standing, so to hell with the poor, unemployed and disenfranchised who didn't work as hard as him to get where he is.' The movie 'is very true to the original text and sentiment', according to Chadha, and will teach audiences 'the urgent lesson of how prejudice, poverty and division in all its forms shapes Sood and our society today'. The British-Indian director added: 'A hundred and eighty-two years later, Dickens' novella still resonates globally in today's sometimes harsh world.' She also said she was inspired by a family member, who lost his home in Uganda as a child, and came to Britain around Christmas time, arriving to a hostile welcome as a refugee. A post shared by Christmas Karma (@christmaskarmamovie) 'For years he didn't feel Christmas was for him and the hardships he faced as a child left him despising it,' she said. She added: 'For me, Christmas Karma is a legacy film with a humane message that will live on long after I do.' Soap star Dyer, 48, plays a London cabbie, while Bonneville, 61, plays the ghost of Jacob Marley. Influenced by gospel, bhangra, Christmas carols, rap and classic pop, the soundtrack features music from Take That's Gary Barlow, former All Saints member Shaznay Lewis, and England-based Punjabi bhangra singer Malkit Singh. Other adaptations of the classic novel, published in 1843, include a 2019 BBC mini series starring Adolescence actor Stephen Graham, written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. On stage Doctor Who's Christopher Eccleston played Scrooge in a retelling of the story at the Old Vic in London between November 2023 and January 2024. There are also a number of film adaptations including Scrooged (1988), starring Bill Murray as an angry TV network president and modern-day Scrooge, and The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992). The film is in cinemas from November 14.

Love Island's Shakira hints at family rift over 'trust issues' with Harry

Love Island runner-up Shakira Khan has revealed why her mum hasn't met her new boyfriend Harry Cooksley yet, even though they left the villa after finding love more than a week ago Shakira Khan has revealed why her mum hasn't met Harry Cooksley yet. The reality star, 24, met and coupled up with Love Island co-star Harry, 30, on the latest series of the ITV2 dating show. ‌ In the end, it was Toni Laites and Cach Mercer who walked off with the £50,000 prize, but for Shakira and Harry, love came after weeks of uncertainty as they were involved in a love triangle with Helena Ford. Ramping up the drama, Harry's ex-girlfriend from the outside world, Emma Munro was also thrown into the mix. On Thursday, Shakira and Toni, now best friends, made a joint appearance on Loose Women together to discuss their rise to fame. ‌ Former EastEnders actress Nadia Sawalha, who appeared alongside Denise Welch, Frankie Bridge, and anchor Kaye Adams, asked the new TV star how she was managing any 'trust issues' they might have following the ups and downs that played out on screen. Shakira replied: "It was important for us to build back at our own pace, everyone's been together from the start. Everyone's like 'Are you boyfriend and girlfriend, are you exclusive?'" ‌ Former Coronation Street star Denise, 67, quickly cut in to ask Shakira if she and Harry had met each other's families yet, and she replied: "Not yet. Well, my mum's been cruising round the Mediterranean, and I've not even home to see my dad. I've not seen my dad in about 10 weeks!" Just then, the Loose Women panel invited Harry into the conversation, who was sitting in the audience, and he spoke of his behaviour throughout his time in the villa. He said: "I like to think I'm living up to what she wants now. I just want to be that person, I am, but I wanted to make the most of my time in the villa and not sit there for eight weeks." And in response, Shakira quipped: "I've always told him that he's not a bad person, he just does silly things!" During his time in the villa, viewers watched as Harry sat back as Helena and Shakira took the triangle drama out on each other. Just days after the final, he has admitted that he hasn't actually spoken to Helena but gave a positive update on the status of their relationship now that the show is over. ‌ He told Christine Lampard on last Friday's edition of Lorraine: "I think I definitely handled things in the wrong way with Helena and Shakira. But at the end of the day, Helena and I are now moving forward as friends. I haven't actually spoken to her since I've been out but we had a couple of conversations before she left the villa and I'm delighted it's amicable." It comes after reports of all the celebrities rumoured to be joining BBC Strictly Come Dancing 2025. Christine then quizzed Shakira on how she felt during the whole situation, and she said: "Honestly it was heartbreaking and having to watch it pan out every day was so tough. I think in the outside world you can have a bit of distance, you can speak to each other. It was something I'd never experienced before." Elsewhere in the series, Harry had to deal with his ex-girlfriend Emma Munro arriving as a Bombshell during the Casa Amor portion of the competition and joked that he and the other boys had been hitting the gym every day in an attempt to impress the girls before all the drama unfolded. ‌ He added: "I think I was buzzing, all the boys were so buzzing. We were calling it the Promised Land, we were gymming every day. We were training like it was the World Cup final and then the girls would come out, Emma was sat there and I just put my head in my hands. I hadn't seen her for months, probably since last year so it was such a surreal feeling." But in the end, Harry ended up with Shakira and even though they were beaten to the £50,000 prize by Cach and Toni, he knew that Shakira was the one for him in the villa. He explained: "I think it was just one conversation that we had. I would make comments towards her and me actually had a chat one-on-one for the first time in weeks and it was just natural, we expressed how we felt. I'd buried a lot of emotion while I was in there and it just kind of came out." Shakira was initially coupled up with Harry in the early weeks of the competition, but they got together again just days ahead of the final and he told her: "I came in here and thought it would be a lot of fun. Finding you in a villa in Mallorca was not on my bingo card this summer. I do regret taking too long to tell you how I felt. We both know this is more than surface level - I think it always has been for me."
