Congress seeks socio-economic features in census, to break 50% ceiling in OBC quota
AICC OBC Advisory Committee
on Wednesday urged the Centre to adopt the Telangana model of the social, educational, employment, economic, political (SEEEP) caste survey in the upcoming nation-wide census exercise.
The two-day meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, wanted the registrar general of census operations to include SEEEP aspects of individuals and different castes in the census exercise.

The AICC OBC Advisory Committee also resolved to work to relax the 50% cap on reservation to give opportunities for OBCs in educational institutions, government service, politics and other fields.
It also sought for reservation in private educational institutions as per Article 15(5) of the Constitution of India.

Siddaramaiah said, as CM in 2015, he ordered a socio-economic survey of all communities. In 2018, when the Backward Classes Commission chairman Kantharaju sought more time to submit the report, then CM HD Kumaraswamy rejected the request. He also asked the minister concerned not to accept the report.
The Cabinet, last month, ordered a re-survey. The government has asked the commission to give its report in three months and the same will be implemented, he said.
`No move to replace CM'
AICC OBC cell chairman Anil Jaihind on Wednesday ruled out any proposal before the party leadership to replace Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Jaihind, responding to a query from the media if the Congress was replacing its only backward class chief minister, said there was no such proposal. 'We all stand with Siddaramaiah.'
There have been strong speculations of an impending leadership change in line with a rumoured unwritten agreement between Dy CM DK Shivakumar and the party.

The CM and I had requested the PM to inaugurate the yellow line and he has given the time now. This is not a project of the central government alone, the state too has 50% share in the project. The 19.15-km line with 16 stations was built at a cost of Rs 7,610 crore. A small programme will be organised at the auditorium in Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru. The PM, CM and the local legislators would travel in the inaugural trip of the train thereafter…we will submit an appeal to the PM on funds needed for the double decker project's land acquisition." The Commissionerate of Railway Safety gave the clearance for the yellow line on July 31. NCERT forms expert panel to review Class 8 map In response to recent feedback and concerns raised over textbook content—most notably the depiction of parts of Rajasthan under the Maratha Empire in a Class 8 social science textbook—the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced the formation of a high-level expert committee. The move, NCERT said in a formal press release, is in line with its well-established practice of undertaking review whenever substantial academic or public input is received. 'These curricular resources, including textbooks, receive regular feedback and suggestions from various stakeholders,' the council said, noting that such feedback is essential for improving content quality. The press release emphasised that the committee will consist of domain experts from reputed institutions and relevant NCERT faculty, and will be convened by the Head of the Curriculum Department. The panel is expected to examine the content in question in light of 'available evidence' and recommend corrective action at the earliest possible time.
