The AICC OBC Advisory Committee also resolved to work to relax the 50% cap on reservation to give opportunities for OBCs in educational institutions, government service, politics and other fields.
It also sought for reservation in private educational institutions as per Article 15(5) of the Constitution of India.
Live Events
The CM, addressing the media after the conclusion of the meeting, said it was
Rahul Gandhi
's campaign that forced the Modi government to accept the demand for a caste census in India. He called it a milestone, but at the same time only a small step in ensuring social justice.
Siddaramaiah said, as CM in 2015, he ordered a socio-economic survey of all communities. In 2018, when the Backward Classes Commission chairman Kantharaju sought more time to submit the report, then CM HD Kumaraswamy rejected the request. He also asked the minister concerned not to accept the report.
The Cabinet, last month, ordered a re-survey. The government has asked the commission to give its report in three months and the same will be implemented, he said.
`No move to replace CM'
AICC OBC cell chairman Anil Jaihind on Wednesday ruled out any proposal before the party leadership to replace Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Jaihind, responding to a query from the media if the Congress was replacing its only backward class chief minister, said there was no such proposal. 'We all stand with Siddaramaiah.'
There have been strong speculations of an impending leadership change in line with a rumoured unwritten agreement between Dy CM DK Shivakumar and the party.

'Even If Male Child Is Born…': Priyank Kharge's 'Credit Politics' Swipe At BJP Over Bengaluru Metro
Last Updated: Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge said the BJP seems to have forgotten that the Metro project is a 50-50 between the central and state governments Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge on Thursday took a swipe at the BJP for indulging in 'credit politics" over the soon-to-be-launched yellow line of Bengaluru Metro. Though it was not clear as to the comparison, he said the party would take credit even for the birth of a male child. Kharge said the BJP seems to have forgotten that the Metro project is a 50-50 between the Centre and Karnataka. 'Even if a male child is born, BJP will take credit," Kharge said ahead of the inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10. 'Let them take credit for it… They forget 50% of project funding is from Karnataka and 50% from the Centre…" #WATCH | Bengaluru | On BJP statement on Bengaluru metro project, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge says, "Let them take credit for it… They forget 50% of project funding is from Karnataka and 50% from the Centre… Why were they reduced to two digits in Karnataka?… Why take… — ANI (@ANI) August 7, 2025 Kharge further targeted BJP MP Tejasvi Surya for claiming credit on behalf of the BJP. He said Karnataka's prosperity was a result of the state government's effort or 'through central contribution", asking if his good work in future will also be attributed to the BJP. His statement comes days after deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar stressed that both state and central governments hold shares in the Metro projects. He said serving the people was more important than 'credit politics". Shivakumar, who is also the minister in-charge for Bengaluru development, had inspected the yellow line of 'Namma Metro' (Bengaluru Metro) ahead of its inauguration. 'This is our metro. The CM and I had requested the PM to inaugurate the yellow line and he has given the time now. This is not a project of the central government alone, the state too has 50% share in the project. We are all serving the public," Shivakumar said in response to a question. He added: 'The PM will inaugurate the yellow line on August 10. The 19.15-km line with 16 stations was built at a cost of Rs 7,610 crore. A small programme will be organised at the auditorium in Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru. The PM, CM and the local legislators would travel in the inaugural trip of the train thereafter…we will submit an appeal to the PM on funds needed for the double decker project's land acquisition." He, too, took a swipe at BJP MPs representing Bengaluru, as all three Lok Sabha seats of the city are represented by the saffron party. 'It would be nice if the MPs who are making a lot of noise got us some funds. The MPs don't speak a word on the funds, but are engaged in nitpicking…" he said. The Commissionerate of Railway Safety gave the clearance for the yellow line on July 31. Shivakumar further hit out at Surya, the Bengaluru South BJP MP, for alleging delay in opening the line for the service of the people. 'We can't rush through things like safety. Our MP is a young blood in a hurry and doesn't have any experience," he added. Donald Trump gets a change of heart again on Elon Musk, says he had a really-really bad ...
It seems the US President Donald Trump cannot make up his mind on the world's richest man Elon Musk. Tesla CEO and Donald Trump have had something of an on-again-off-again relationship in the past few months -- from being Trump's "first buddy" to sharing barbs and criticism publicly. In the latest twist to the 'Frenemy tale', Trump was asked by reporters that a Gallup poll has called Elon Musk one of the most-unpopular people in the country right now. if he misses having Elon Musk around White House. To this, Trump replied that he thinks Elon Musk is a nice guy and seemingly referring to his public tiff with him, he said that he believes that "he had a bad moment, a really-really bad moment". From attending Thanksgiving dinner at Trump's house, to announcing new party to counter him At the outset of President Donald Trump's second term, Tesla CEO Elon Musk emerged as a prominent figure by the president's side, serving as the de facto head of the White House's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a bold initiative aimed at slashing federal spending. Musk's influence extended far beyond administrative duties, with the New York Times reporting that he attended "almost every meeting and many meals" with Trump, acting as both an advisor and confidant. Musk's presence was notable during high-profile diplomatic engagements, including Trump's calls with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, held at the president-elect's Mar-a-Lago club, where Musk appeared to have taken up residence. "Elon won't go home," Trump quipped to NBC News. "I can't get rid of him." NCERT forms expert panel to review Class 8 map after feedback on Maratha Empire depiction
NCERT forms expert panel to review Class 8 map In response to recent feedback and concerns raised over textbook content—most notably the depiction of parts of Rajasthan under the Maratha Empire in a Class 8 social science textbook—the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced the formation of a high-level expert committee. The move, NCERT said in a formal press release, is in line with its well-established practice of undertaking review whenever substantial academic or public input is received. 'These curricular resources, including textbooks, receive regular feedback and suggestions from various stakeholders,' the council said, noting that such feedback is essential for improving content quality. The press release emphasised that the committee will consist of domain experts from reputed institutions and relevant NCERT faculty, and will be convened by the Head of the Curriculum Department. The panel is expected to examine the content in question in light of 'available evidence' and recommend corrective action at the earliest possible time. Background: Class 8 map sparks historical dispute The committee formation comes amid growing debate over a map featured in the new Class 8 social science textbook, which shows parts of western Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer, as being under the Maratha Empire. The most prominent objection came from Chaitanya Raj Singh of Jaisalmer, who argued that 'no authentic historical sources' suggest Maratha control over Jaisalmer and called the portrayal 'factually baseless and historically misleading. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Extragrande 4BHK at 7 Mahalaxmi starts 10.81 Cr* 7 Mahalaxmi, Runwal Group Enquire Now Undo ' In an earlier clarification, Michel Danino, Chairperson of NCERT's curricular group for social science, acknowledged that the map was based on previously published maps in the public domain and developed with expert consultation. He explained that such maps depict not only areas under direct rule, but also those that had tributary or political arrangements with the Marathas, reflecting the complex and fluid nature of historical boundaries. He also conceded that while the Class 7 textbook includes a disclaimer about the approximate nature of historical borders, this caveat was mistakenly omitted from the Class 8 textbook—something he said should have been included to avoid misinterpretation. NEP-aligned curriculum and open review mechanism NCERT's current curriculum overhaul is a part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which led to the development of the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education. Aligned with these frameworks, NCERT has produced new teaching-learning materials, including textbooks. Officials stress that the review process ensures academic integrity and transparency. 'Evidence-based decisions are at the core of our process,' the council said, reaffirming its commitment to high-quality, research-driven educational content. NCERT reiterated that the new committee is not limited to a single issue, but is being formed to examine feedback on educational content across a few textbooks. The expert panel will evaluate each case thoroughly and submit a consolidated report for necessary action. TOI Education is on WhatsApp now. Follow us here . Ready to navigate global policies?
