Travis Kelce and Chiefs begin training camp as he shuts himself off from Taylor Swift ahead of possible final season

Daily Mail24-07-2025
Travis Kelce was back on the practice field on Tuesday as the Kansas City Chiefs began their preparations for the new NFL season.
The legendary tight end teased possible retirement from football in the wake of the Chiefs' Super Bowl heartbreak against the Philadelphia Eagles.
But the 35-year-old later confirmed he would return for at least one more NFL season as he bids to win a fourth Super Bowl in Kansas City.
And this week, Kelce, Patrick Mahomes and the rest of Andy Reid's players reported for training camp ahead of the upcoming campaign.
From Tuesday until August 13, the Chiefs will be based at Missouri Western State University in St Joseph - around an hour north Arrowhead Stadium.
There, Kelce and the other 89 players on the roster will stay in dorms on campus for the duration of camp. That means three weeks without seeing their partners and families. For Kelce, that means three weeks without seeing girlfriend Taylor Swift.
'We love this place, and it's a great place to have training camp,' Reid said. 'They roll out the red carpet and take care of us like no other.'
Kelce - who is entering his 13th season in the NFL - has a year remaining on his current, $34.25million deal with the Chiefs. But he has not ruled out playing beyond the 2025 season.
Together with quarterback Mahomes and head coach Reid, Kelce helped turn Kansas City into an NFL dynasty.
Reid is notorious for running one of the most brutal camps in the NFL but the head coach insisted: 'It builds you a foundation that you can bank on.'
'It's important that the guys come in with the right frame of mind, and they know that. They pass the word down to the young guys that they better be ready to go. That helps us in the long haul.'
The Chiefs are now one of only half a dozen NFL teams that now travel for training camp but 15 of their 17 practices will be open to the public.
Kansas City was eyeing a historic three-peat last season, only for Kelce, Mahomes and Co to lose 40-22 to the Eagles in New Orleans.
This year, the Chiefs will kick off the season in Brazil, with a game in Sao Paulo against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Ed Kelce recently insisted 'there was never any doubt in my mind' that his son would play on
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Kelce's father, Ed, revealed that he was always sure that his son would play on.
'There was never any doubt in my mind,' his father said. 'Although I kept my mouth shut.'
Ed Kelce confirmed that Travis did not ask for advice on his future and that he would have not given him any.
'He wasn't ready to quit. It was a sour taste. That sucked. If you were a Chiefs (player) or a Chiefs fan, that Super Bowl was the worst,' Kelce's father said.

RT Austin Jackson, FB Alec Ingold latest injuries for Dolphins

August 4 - The Miami Dolphins endured a rough few days on the practice field as they ramp up for their preseason opener next week. Right tackle Austin Jackson sustained a lower leg injury on Friday, knocking him out for a matter of weeks, and fullback Alec Ingold wound up in concussion protocol after getting hurt in practice on Sunday. Jackson missed more than half of the 2024 season due to a knee injury, but coach Mike McDaniel emphasized on Sunday that the latest ailment is unrelated. "He got the (new) injury playing football and got stepped on. It has nothing to do with anything but that," McDaniel said Sunday. "And with Austin, the bottom line for me where he's at ... he knocked some rust off, he got back and, in my opinion, exceeded where he was playing before. So we're fortunate that that timetable (for his absence) doesn't seem to be into the regular season." Jackson, 25, has started 54 of his 56 NFL games for the Dolphins since they selected him with the 18th overall pick in the 2020 draft out of Southern California. The Dolphins added to their offensive line depth on Sunday by signing Germain Ifedi. A first-round pick of Seattle in 2016, he has played for the Seahawks (2016-19), the Chicago Bears (2020-21), the Atlanta Falcons (2022) and the Cleveland Browns (2024). Last year, he appeared in 15 games and made five starts. Ingold, 29, played three seasons with the Raiders before spending the past three years in Miami, including a Pro Bowl season in 2023. Last year, he had 10 carries for 17 yards and a touchdown to go with 11 receptions for 96 yards. Miami's exhibition opener is at Chicago on Aug. 10. The Dolphins begin the regular season at Indianapolis on Sept. 7. --Field Level Media

Reports: Dolphins sign DT Zach Sieler to 3-year extension

August 4 - Defensive tackle Zach Sieler agreed to a three-year, $67.75 million contract extension with the Miami Dolphins, ESPN and reported on Sunday. The contract reportedly includes $44 million in guaranteed money. Sieler, 29, is a seven-year NFL veteran who began his career with the Baltimore Ravens. He joined the Dolphins in 2019, and he had a breakout campaign in 2023, recording 10 sacks. Last season, Sieler continued his high-level play, posting 55 combined tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and one forced fumble. Pro Football Focus gave him a 78.6 overall grade, ranking him 12th among 219 qualifying interior defenders. Zieler is now set to become the highest-paid defensive player on the Dolphins and ninth-highest paid defensive tackle in the league by average annual value. --Field Level Media

Bills RB James Cook on not practicing Sunday: "Business"

August 3 - With his contract dispute ongoing, Buffalo Bills running back James Cook showed up for Sunday's mandatory practice but did not participate. Instead, the 25-year-old stood off to the side and spent a short amount of time on an exercise bike. After practice, when asked why he did not participate, Cook offered just three words: "Oh, nothing. Business." Sunday marked the first time Cook did not participate since requesting a contract extension during the offseason. The two-time Pro Bowler, who shared the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns last season, wants to become one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL. Cook also was asked whether he was holding out or planning to suit up for Monday's practice. Again, Cook kept his response short: "Business." The Bills provided no comment on Cook, who is in the final year of his rookie contract. Cook -- who did not attend Buffalo's voluntary offseason team activities but did participate in the mandatory three-day minicamp as well as the first eight practices of training camp -- was not on the team's list of injured players leading up to Sunday's practice. Entering his fourth year in the league, Cook has put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. His 2,638 rushing yards are the most among his peers in the 2022 draft class. Yet he is not on the list of Bills' 2022 draftees -- wide receiver Khalil Shakir, linebacker Terrel Bernard and cornerback Christian Benford -- who have been rewarded with extensions. The Bills traded their first-round pick from that season, cornerback Kaiir Elam, to the Dallas Cowboys in March. "Sometimes you can't get on the same page or sometimes you're trying to fit it in," Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane told reporters at the start of camp. "There's times guys have left here that we really wanted. We just couldn't make it work. "But I can tell you, I'm hopeful, when we're sitting here at next year's training camp, that James Cook is out there practicing and still representing the red, white and blue." --FIeld Level Media
