
Genesis to expand into Western Europe to tap luxury EV demand
The announcement was made on Friday during the 24 Hours of Le Mans — one of the world's largest motorsports events — with Hyundai Motor Group Chief Design Officer Luc Donckerwolke and Xavier Martinet, head of Hyundai Motor and Genesis' European operations, in attendance.
Genesis is set to begin deliveries in the four new markets starting in early 2026. The initial lineup will include the electric sport utility vehicle GV60, the electrified version of the GV70 SUV and the upcoming GV80 electric coupe. Details regarding sales channels and strategies for each country have yet to be disclosed.
'Our entry into these important markets is a pivotal moment for Genesis. We are moving now to deepen our long-term presence and commitment across Europe,' said Martinet.
'This is the most significant market expansion since we launched in Europe in 2021 and is the start of our next phase of measured, strategic growth and sporting brand direction.'
After entering Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland in 2021, Genesis is now expanding into all major electric vehicle markets in Western Europe.
According to SNE Research, Europe accounted for 20.9 percent of global battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle sales between January and May, the largest share outside China, with 26.2 percent year-over-year growth during the period.
Hyundai Motor Group has rapidly increased its presence in the region's EV market with compact, affordable models such as Kia's EV3 and Hyundai's Kona Electric and Casper Electric, achieving 45 percent year-over-year growth between January and April.
However, the luxury EV segment continues to be led by established local brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi, presenting recognition challenges for newer entrants like Genesis.
Hyundai's expansion seeks to tap into potential openings as local automakers adjust the pace of electrification amid concerns over demand and profitability. The company expects the luxury EV segment to grow further, potentially comprising half of Western Europe's luxury car market by 2027 as new internal combustion engine vehicle sales are phased out by 2035.
As part of efforts to showcase its technological capabilities, the brand plans to expand its presence in global motorsports through its Genesis Magma Racing team, established in late 2024. It aims to enter the Hypercar class of the International Automobile Federation's World Endurance Championship, one of the most prestigious endurance racing series in the world, next year.

Delska's New 10MW Data Center in Latvia Achieves Tier III Design Certification
RIGA, Latvia, Aug. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Northern European data center operator Delska's upcoming facility, EU North Riga LV DC1, has been awarded the prestigious Uptime Institute Tier III Design Certification—an important milestone ahead of its planned launch at the end of this year. Once operational, it will be one of the greenest data centers in the Baltic region. The Tier III Design certification ensures the facility meets strict standards for redundancy, safety, and uninterrupted service, guaranteeing 99.982% uptime. "In a world where even a few seconds of downtime can cost thousands, Tier III means our infrastructure stays online—even during planned maintenance," said Delska CEO Andris Gailitis. Addressing power shortages in major European hubs, the 10 MW site, offering up to 250 kW per rack, is built for next-generation workloads, including AI and high-performance computing (HPC). Its modular 6,000 m² layout is fully scalable, with the ability to expand the data center campus site up to 30 MW. Sustainability is at the core of the design. The facility will run entirely on 100% wind energy, with backup generators powered by Neste MY renewable diesel. Targeting a PUE of just 1.3, it will use advanced free-cooling systems, hot-aisle containment, an effective Weiss Technik wall cooling system and Trane Turbocor-based chillers. It supports both air cooling and high-density direct-to-chip cooling. Delska also aims for LEED green building certification, an achievement held by fewer than 15 buildings in Latvia. Upon completion, LV DC1 will undergo Tier III Facility certification to confirm its construction and operations meet the same high standard as its design. This will be Delska's third Tier III-certified data center and sixth overall, joining two Tier III Facility-certified sites in Lithuania. Plans include an additional Lithuanian data center and another facility in the region, strengthening Delska's Baltic data centers' network. Korean auto parts makers to get W630b in financing relief amid US tariffs
Hyundai Motor Group, Hana Bank and the state-run Korea Trade Insurance Corporation have launched a 630 billion won ($453.5 million) financing program to support auto parts makers hit by US tariffs. The three parties held a signing ceremony Monday to back Hyundai Motor Group's domestic suppliers, which face risks of declining sales after the US imposed a 25 percent tariff on car parts in May. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan, Hyundai Motor Company President Sung Kim, KTIC CEO Jang Young-jin and Hana Bank CEO Lee Ho-sung at the headquarters of DY Auto in Asan, South Chungcheong Province. DY Auto, a manufacturer of car window motors, was selected as the first recipient. Based on funds from Hana Bank's contribution of 30 billion won and Hyundai Motor's 10 billion won, KTIC will provide up to 630 billion won in preferential financing to parts makers recommended by Hyundai Motor Group. Participating suppliers will be eligible for loans with interest rates up to 2 percentage points below market rates. KTIC will also extend the guarantee period from the current one year to three years and increase guarantee ceilings for loans under the program. 'In a trade environment that has become more challenging following the recent US tariffs, this new financing program will provide significant support to the auto parts market and, from an original equipment manufacturer perspective, is expected to help stabilize the supply chain,' said Hyundai Motor Company President Sung Kim. Although Korea and the US agreed on July 30 to lower the car parts tariff from 25 percent to 15 percent, the change ended the zero-tariff benefit that Korean parts makers had enjoyed under the Korea–US Free Trade Agreement. As a result, Hyundai Motor Company, which still relies heavily on Korean partners for its US production, said in July that it will consider shifting part of its supply chain to local US suppliers. Currently, Hyundai Motor Company sources less than 50 percent of its parts for US assembly from within the US. The company disclosed that 20 percent of its 828.2-billion-won tariff-related losses in the second quarter stemmed from parts alone. The auto parts industry also faces new risks from a 50 percent US tariff on steel and aluminum starting Monday, which is applied based on the proportion of these metals in the parts. Ahead of the signing ceremony, Minister Kim toured DY Auto and was briefed on the impact of the US tariffs. 'In response to these tariff measures, the government will prepare follow-up support, including easing export difficulties, helping companies enter alternative markets, providing tax incentives, and strengthening self-sufficiency,' Minister Kim said.
