Jordon Hudson reportedly demanded content approval, partial ownership of UNC 'Hard Knocks' before NFL Films killed project

Yahoo20-05-2025
An offseason version of "Hard Knocks" was supposed to cover Bill Belichick as he embarked on his first season as head coach of UNC. We now know why that project fell apart.
Shortly before NFL Films and HBO were set to announce the docuseries, Belichick's girlfriend Jordon Hudson demanded both content approval and partial ownership of the show, according to Katherine Rosman of The New York Times.
Rather than hand control of the long-running show to the 24-year-old Hudson, who has made no shortage of headlines this offseason at Belichick's side, NFL Films reportedly opted to pull the plug.
Producers reportedly learned after the fact that Hudson was in negotiations with another production company, EverWonder, to make a similar series. Per its website, EverWonder has been involved in a number of sports projects, most notably the production of Netflix's Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight.
It had previously been reported that Hudson played an instrumental role in killing the Tar Heel edition of "Hard Knocks," with one of the show's executive producers alluding to her demands to be heavily involved in the production of the series:
'The conversation took a turn we were not comfortable with.'
Not even NFL head coaches or general managers are granted final cut of "Hard Knocks" seasons covering their teams, as the show is ultimately controlled by the league itself. Belichick's inclusion would have been new ground for the series, but Hudson apparently wanted control over what would have been a very loud message about how his foray into college football is going.
That desire for control has turned into an unavoidable narrative over the past few months, most notably when Hudson stepped in to nix a CBS interview question about how she and Belichick met. Questions about her involvement in the UNC program have become loud enough that the Tar Heels have felt the need to release a statement confirming she is not a school employee, but she is welcome at their facilities.
And given that the Times reported Hudson has told at least one person that she and Belichick are engaged, she may be in this for the long haul.
The other area the Times reported Hudson's involvement in Belichick's professional life is a number of trademark applications in his name. Literally.
Because the trademarks for the coach's well-known catchphrases, such as "No Days Off" and "Do Your Job," are all held by his old New England Patriots team, Hudson has reportedly attempted to pull a Taylor Swift and applied for trademarks reading 'No Days Off (Bill's Version),' and 'Do Your Job (Bill's Version).'
We'll see how that one works out.

No. 4 Clemson's experience makes the Tigers the ACC favorite. Can anyone challenge them?

No. 4 Clemson won so much over more than a decade that it felt like a step back when the Tigers didn't reach 10 wins two years ago in the first of back-to-back four-loss seasons. Still, the Tigers are the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference champions and coming off a trip to the College Football Playoff. Experience from that run is part of why the Tigers are the runaway preseason pick to finish atop the ACC again. 'Experience, as they say, doesn't come at a discount,' coach Dabo Swinney said. Clemson won at least 10 games from 2011-2022, including two national championships and eight ACC titles, before a nine-win year in 2023. The Tigers (10-4) beat SMU for last year's title. 'I think our mentality is, man, we're keeping our head down, just kind of keeping it low,' said quarterback Cade Klubnik, the preseason ACC player of the year. Clemson returns four Associated Press All-ACC picks from last year, including first-team offensive lineman Blake Miller and two defensive linemen (Peter Woods and T.J. Parker) ranked in the top three among returners at their position nationally by Pro Football Focus. Overall, Clemson held 11 of 27 spots on the preseason all-ACC team. No other team held more than three. If not Clemson, then who? The ACC has two other teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 with No. 10 Miami and No. 16 SMU. The Hurricanes were the league's highest-ranked team much of last year, though they missed the ACC title game after losing at Syracuse. They brought in Georgia transfer quarterback Carson Beck as the successor to No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Cam Ward. The Mustangs have back-to-back 11-win seasons under Rhett Lashlee, who led SMU to an 8-0 record in its first league season. SMU returns quarterback Kevin Jennings (28 total touchdowns last year), and AP all-ACC picks in offensive lineman Logan Parr, safety Isaiah Nwokobia and kicker Collin Rogers. Seminoles' response Florida State entered last season as the reigning ACC champion and preseason favorite, then went 2-10. Coach Mike Norvell's offseason included hiring two coordinators, notably former Auburn and UCF head coach Gus Malzahn for the offense. 'When you come to Florida State, you'd better embrace the highest of expectations, because it's what I have, it's what our program has,' Norvell said. New faces Three new coaches arrive in North Carolina's Bill Belichick, Wake Forest's Jake Dickert and Stanford's Frank Reich. Belichick led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl titles but this is his first college season, while the school is betting on the 73-year-old to elevate its football profile after moving on from Mack Brown. Dickert left Washington State for Wake Forest after Dave Clawson unexpectedly stepped down after the season. Reich, who joins Belichick and Boston College's Bill O'Brien as the ACC's national-high three former NFL head coaches, is an interim coach after the spring firing of Troy Taylor due to off-field concerns. Irish factor Sixth-ranked Notre Dame has six games against ACC teams as part of its annual scheduling partnership with the league, with the football independent being a member of all other ACC sports. Those don't count in the league standings but certainly have CFP implications for last year's national runner-up. The biggest comes with an opening-game trip to Miami (Aug. 31), along with trips to Boston College (Nov. 1), Pittsburgh (Nov. 15) and Stanford (Nov. 29). The Irish's home games come against N.C. State (Oct. 11) and Syracuse (Nov. 22). Heading west Boston College, Duke, FSU, UNC, Pittsburgh and Virginia are this year's teams to touch all four U.S. continental time zones for a league road trip in Year 2 of westward expansion. California hosts the Blue Devils (Oct. 4), Tar Heels (Oct. 17) and Cavaliers (Nov. 1). Stanford hosts the Eagles (Sept. 13), Seminoles (Oct. 18) and Panthers (Nov. 1). That would leave Clemson and Georgia Tech as the only ACC teams yet to travel to California. Both go next year, the Tigers to Cal and the Yellow Jackets to Stanford. Marquee matchups The league gets immediate measuring-stick matchups. Week 1 features LSU visiting Clemson, Alabama visiting Florida State, TCU visiting UNC and Georgia Tech visiting Colorado. There are also Atlanta games with Syracuse meeting Tennessee and Virginia Tech facing South Carolina. Key conference games include Clemson visiting Georgia Tech (Sept. 13), hosting SMU (Oct. 18) and traveling to Louisville (Nov. 14). Miami hosts Louisville (Oct. 17) and visits SMU (Nov. 1), while SMU hosts Louisville (Nov. 22). The ACC title game is Dec. 6 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Bill Belichick, UNC football receive zero votes in preseason US LBM Coaches Poll

Last week, North Carolina football learned it was chosen to finish eighth among the 17 ACC teams in the conference's preseason poll. A week later, the Tar Heels learned they will enter the Bill Belichick era without a single vote in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll, which was released on Monday, Aug. 4. It is the first time since the 2019 college football season that North Carolina received zero votes in the preseason Coaches Poll. The Tar Heels began last season unranked under Mack Brown, but did receive six votes. REQUIRED READING: College football rankings: ACC teams in preseason US LBM Coaches Poll top 25 While it might have been expected following a 6-7 season and coaching change, the Tar Heels not receiving a single vote is significant, given Belichick, an NFL coaching legend, is leading the team. The votes for the Coaches Poll are comprised of other Division I coaches. However, it is a reminder of the challenge the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach has in front of him in Chapel Hill, as he embarks on his first season coaching the college ranks. Coming off a 6-7 season under Brown and interim head coach Freddie Kitchens — now the Tar Heels' offensive coordinator — North Carolina has hit the ground running with rebuilding the roster through the transfer portal. According to 247Sports, North Carolina brought in 40 players from the portal and built the No. 8-ranked transfer class in the country. The Tar Heels also lost several key players from last year's roster to the portal in the same process, including linebacker Amare Campbell, defensive lineman Beau Atkinson and offensive lineman Zach Rice, among others. As noted by the Fayetteville Observer, North Carolina didn't have a single player listed on the preseason All-ACC team for the first time in six years. The Tar Heels have also not named a starting quarterback heading into the season, as senior Max Johnson, South Alabama transfer Gio Lopez and highly touted four-star recruit Bryce Baker all remain in the mix for it. "We have a lot of new players, a little over 40 from the spring and 70 guys that weren't on last year's team," Belichick said at a media availability on Sunday, Aug. 3. "The first portal, we're just trying to find guys to fill the team. Second portal, we're looking for good football players. We felt like any position, if the player wanted to come in and compete — and we thought it was a good player — then this is the right spot for him. We'll give everybody an opportunity to compete. We're going to have to earn our spots on the field." The Tar Heels' Oct. 4 matchup vs. Clemson is the only scheduled conference regular season game vs. a preseason top 25 opponent. North Carolina is also set to face Syracuse and in-state rivals Duke and NC State this year. North Carolina will kick off the season with a nationally televised primetime game on Monday, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. ET against TCU at Kenan Stadium.
