Black-Tie Dress Code: What to wear to a black-tie event
There aren't many occasions that require a black-tie dress code – unless you frequent charity galas, red carpets, and formal weddings – so when the opportunity arises, you might be wondering what on earth you're supposed to wear. But fret not, I've got you.
Not to be confused with a white-tie dress code, which is even more formal, or cocktail attire, which is less formal; at a black-tie event you're expected to wear a floor-length gown, sharp tailoring, or midi-length cocktail dress. Black-tie might seem like an investment, but it doesn't have to break the bank because when it comes to elegance, less is truly more.
Although you can have a bit more fun with cocktail attire since there aren't restrictions on hemlines, modesty, or embellishments, black-tie dressing is way more straight-forward and a simple slip dress or sleek suit will have you feeling like a million bucks no matter what your budget looks like.
The only thing I would avoid wearing is statement prints – like florals, polka dots, or stripes – as, depending on how it's styled, can come across a bit too casual for a formal, black-tie event. But, that doesn't mean your only option is minimalism, as a bold colour-block look can make a statement while still fitting the dress code.
It's one thing to explain what black-tie dressing is, but a totally other thing to see it in action. So, I've found five, fail-safe outfit formulas that are black-tie approved and super easy to replicate with pieces from our favourite high street brands.
A white dress with chunky jewels is an elegant take on black-tie dressing. I love this Gucci gown worn by Daisy Edgar-Jones at the premiere of Twisters. It's minimal without being boring because of the asymmetric neckline and cut-out in the back, which also makes it subtly sexy.
Wear yours with gold jewellery to add warmth to the ivory hue and complete the look with strappy sandals. Although I would steer clear of this look as a wedding guest, it makes a chic bridal option for a civil ceremony, welcome drinks, or reception.
A strapless gown is ideal for showing off a sparkling, statement necklace as demonstrated by Simone Ashley's beautiful crimson-red Giorgio Armani look for the Bones and All premiere at Venice Film Festival.
Gold jewels can be overpowering with a red gown since it's such a statement colour, so I'd suggest adorning your neckline with silver or white gold jewellery paired with diamond earrings and a cocktail ring. To really take your styling to the next level, wear your hair in an up-do to create the illusion of an lengthened silhouette.
It's no surprise that an LBD (long black dress) is essential for your black-tie arsenal and your capsule wardrobe – and who better to show us how it's done than the queen of the red carpet Zendaya?
Wearing a vintage, black slip dress from Mugler's 1995 collection for the London premiere of Dune: Part Two, the A-lister embraced minimal elegance by accessorising with glistening, statement earrings and a cocktail ring. As for shoes, black heels are all you need while an embellished evening bag adds sparkle. If you fancy taking it up a notch, slick on a bold, red lip.
When it comes to the black-tie dress code, a dress isn't your only option. Hailey Bieber attended a private dinner party wearing this Saint Laurent suit and she couldn't look cooler.
It's a much more relaxed fit than YSL's iconic Le Smoking tuxedo, which gives it a truly effortless feel while still being polished. Finish the look with pointed-toe pumps to add structure to the louche silhouette.
Whether it's designer or high-street, you can't go wrong with a slip dress when attending a black-tie event. Take note from Anya Taylor-Joy's archival Christian Dior dress at the 2025 Golden Globes.
Designed by John Galliano for Dior's spring 1998 collection, Taylor-Joy finished the look with a matching shawl – a smart move in case the temperature drops – strappy sandals and a statement floral necklace. This outfit combo is ideal for attending a spring or summer wedding.

I'm a superyacht nanny — I get paid to travel the world in luxury while watching rich people's kids
BB Smalls wasn't looking for a free ride when she signed on as a nanny to Hollywood honchos, globally-renowned rock stars and bigwig billionaires. But free first-class flights to Bora Bora, $100,000 rooms at the St. Regis Resort and bougie boating excursions along the Amalfi Coast are exactly what she got — not to mention routine shopping sprees at Gucci, Chanel and Louis Vuitton — while on the job. 'I've been everywhere: Maui, Tahiti, London, Italy, Scotland, you name it,' Smalls, 44, from Los Angeles, tells The Post. Advertisement Nondisclosure agreements bar her from spilling the secrets and specifics of her eccentric ex-bosses. But Smalls, now a married stay-at-home mom living in Texas, says, 'Nannying for the right people means getting paid to travel.' She's in the 40% of childcare providers who are 'superyacht nannies,' and regularly globetrot, by sky, land or sea, to luxe locations with their employers, per data via the International Nanny Association. 9 BB Smalls has been living a grand life as a superyacht nanny to the rich and famous. Courtesy BB Smalls Advertisement It's a post that grants kiddo pros the opportunity to see the sights, as well as how the top 1% travels, for free. The super lucky even get to nanny on superyachts, vacation vessels spanning over 80 feet in length, which are roughly twice the length of an average yacht. The behemoths come fully staffed with a captain and crew. Chartering the megacruisers can cost between $100,000 and more than $1 million per week, depending on size, time of year and onboard amenities, such as helipads, movie theatres, Jacuzzis and gyms. But most A-list showboats like Mark Zuckerberg, who paid a reported $300 million for his 387-foot superyacht, and Jeff Bezos, with his 417-foot, $500 million ship, rarely sweat over dollars and cents. Advertisement 9 Ella Peters has been a superyacht nanny for a decade. Ella Peters/ Ella Peters, a superyacht nanny of nearly 10 years, said that during peak yachting season, June through August, she's often booked for back-to-back trips with a revolving door of well-to-do employers from NYC, Europe and the Middle East. 'I do love the job,' the 28-year-old owner of UK's tells The Post. 'But it is exhausting.' She charges around $500 per day for her on-ship sitter services. However, her fees, not including the standard 'four-figure tip' she typically receives, can increase according to the number of children aboard and their ages. Advertisement 9 Peters' job has taken her all over the world. Ella Peters/ Like Smalls, Peters works for internationally known hotshots whose names must remain hush-hush due to NDAs. Her upper-crust clients routinely rent nearly 300-foot-long tubs, costing over $1 million per week, for family cruises through the Mediterranean. The preferred path they sail is famously known as 'The Milk Run.' On it, tycoons tour the south of France, Corsica and Sardinia, Italy — home to Costa Smeralda, nicknamed 'billionaires' playground,' owing to its turquoise waters, fine-sand shores and chichi beach clubs. 'It has everything my ultrahigh net worth families want,' said Peters. 'My favorite 'pinch me' moment was driving myself and my 11-year-old charge on a jet ski through the famous Faraglioni rocks in Capri, Italy,' the Londoner said. 9 Peters said her clients are 'ultrahigh net worth families,' but NDAs forbid her from disclosing whom she's worked for. Ella Peters/ Still, Smalls, who recently left VIP nannying for content creation, says working for the uberwealthy wasn't always smooth sailing. 'One Bel Air family wanted me to nanny for them on a yacht for an entire month, but I wasn't allowed to be seen,' she recalled of the odd demand. 'If either parent walked into a room that I was in, I'd have to hide and hold in place until they left the room.' Advertisement 'During my downtime on the yacht, I'd have to stay out of sight and be banished to my room.' But Peters has only had stellar experiences — and very little downtime — while minding mini moguls on the waves. 'I get up before the children and try to drink some coffee in peace,' Peters says. 'When you're onboard, you have to put in effort to get a few moments to yourself. After that, everything is go, go, go.' But her skills are worth every penny. Advertisement 9 Peters does everything from feeding the kids breakfasts aboard the ship to accompanying them on jet ski rides. Ella Peters/ Peters comes fully equipped with pediatric first-aid training, police background clearance, nanny insurance, water safety training and a personal watercraft license — documents that permit her to operate jet skis and paddle boats. And while their moneyed mommies and daddies play, she entertains the tots all day. 'After my coffee, I greet the kids in the morning as they wake up, then feed them a small breakfast before we do arts and crafts,' Peters began. Advertisement Depending on the size of the superyacht, she either gets her own room, bunks with the babies or shares living quarters with a crew member. 9 Peters said the best route to sail is famously known as 'The Milk Run,' which goes through the south of France, Corsica and Sardinia, Italy — home to Costa Smeralda, nicknamed 'billionaires' playground.' Ella Peters/ 'When the parents wake up, the kids have a proper family breakfast with them, then we do a few morning watersports before they do a family-style buffet lunch,' continued the millennial. 'In the afternoon, when the sun is really hot, we do more arts and crafts before doing more water activities or stopping off at a local village for ice cream and exploring.' 'At night, I feed the kids dinner while the parents prepare for their evening plans,' she said of the superpacked schedule. 'Then it's time for bed.' Advertisement 9 Peters said she is booked solid through yacht season to watch kiddos. Ella Peters/ Sarah Leonard, 25, a superyacht nanny from Maryland, however, tells The Post her days on the water are more like walks in the park. 'I spend about four hours a day working with the kids, the rest of the time I'm able to chill on the yacht or maybe explore,' said the Gen Z. She's spent the past two summers as a superyacht nanny for a South African influencer family with a bent towards boating around Turkey, Greece and Italy. 'I was working as a scuba diver in Puerto Rico back in 2023, and I saw a Facebook listing for a yacht nannying position and applied,' said Leonard, a certified rescue diver and CPR expert and former lifeguard. 9 Sarah Leonard, 25, has been a superyacht nanny for the past two summers. @sarahtravelingnanny/TikTok For her, the childcare gig was an unpaid position that came with the perks of enjoying an all-inclusive, saltwater excursion. And the family, comprising a mom, dad and two boys under age 8, treated Leonard like family, giving her a private bedroom and bathroom, including her in family meals and 'gifting' her with a special token of their appreciation at the end of the two-month journey. 9 Leonard wasn't paid for her gig, but got to join a family for two months on their yacht. @sarahtravelingnanny/TikTok But Leonard, who'll be touring Italy and France with new brood this summer, says traveling with little ones is the true gift that keeps on giving. 'I get to experience the world through the eyes of these little kids,' gushed the superyacht nanny. 'It's magical.'

Dune 3 gets an exciting filming update which will reassure fans
Dune fans who are eagerly awaiting the third instalment will be pleased to hear that filming should be underway very, very soon. According to Deadline, filming on Dune 3 will begin in July which tracks with previous reports that the production was aiming for a summer start. Last July Dune 3's release date was confirmed for 18 December, 2026 and hopefully the film should still be on track to come out as planned. Dune 3 will see Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Florence Pugh all returning to the franchise. Pugh's character Princess Irulan is expected to take on a bigger role in the third instalment with director Denis Villeneuve previously comparing her importance to Zendaya's character Chani. Related: Best streaming services in 2025 He told Moviefone: "Of course, if there's a Dune Messiah as we plan, [Irulan will] become one of the prominent characters of that whole series. I'm doing a bit of what I did with Zendaya in the first movie. "I introduced Chani in Dune and then she becomes one of the main characters in Part Two. I do the same with Florence, I just introduced her in Part Two and if there's a Dune Messiah, she becomes one of the main characters." One more surprising name that will also be back is Jason Momoa whose character Duncan Idaho died in the first movie and was not present in the second. Related: Dune 3 will adapt Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah where Momoa's character Idaho is cloned and brought back to life as an artificially created human known as a ghola. The cast of Dune 3 may also have a big name addition as in April it was reported that Robert Pattinson had been offered a role, though his casting has not yet been confirmed. Inside Crockett And Jones With Managing Director Jonathan Jones
Crockett & Jones campaign A master of shoemaking since 1879, Crockett & Jones has built a reputation for crafting the finest shoes from their headquarters in Northampton. Still family-run, the brand continues to grow its loyal customer base, who all appreciate handcrafted Goodyear-welted footwear that are made with the same care as they were over a century ago. It's no surprise then, that the brand appeals to well-dressed men. Worn by some of the most quintessentially British names, cue Daniel Craig (as James Bond), Prince William, Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hardy, Crockett & Jones has been their go-to for everything from red carpets to royal engagements. Managing Director Jonathan Jones, great-grandson of co-founder Charles Jones Managing Director Jonathan Jones, great-grandson of co-founder Charles Jones, discusses the heritage of his family's brand, the art of British shoemaking, and the future of Crockett & Jones. Jonathan Jones: At Crockett & Jones, we strive to maintain the same standards set by our predecessors. Whilst our machinery has been updated over the years, we fundamentally follow the same processes with an emphasis on quality. We have operated in the same buildings since the 1890s, and take inspiration from our classic styles produced a hundred years ago. The words of one of our founders, below, form part of our DNA; 'Apply the best that is in you to the subject of technical education. Whether it be in the making of lasts, or the patterns, or the manipulation of materials, do not be satisfied until you have done your very best. Do not say 'This will do' or 'That is near enough.' If it is not right it ought not to do. Whether it is in the boot making or in the selling your aim should be to get the best fit possible. You will thereby cement the loyal support of your customers. Cultivate a sense of personal responsibility. Keep your own counsel and with perseverance and proficiency, such as you can attain by close technical study, you are bound to succeed.'- Sir James Crockett Crockett & Jones heritage shot JJ: We take this to mean aiming to be the best in our standards of workmanship and use of materials. The high standards of earlier shoemakers act as an inspiration for us. This knowledge and expertise is passed down from generation to generation. Crockett & Jones heritage shot JJ: The manufacture of high-quality Goodyear-welted shoes remains very labour intensive, requiring a highly-skilled workforce to carry out more than 200 separate operations during an eight-week period. This method, originated by hand-makers centuries ago, gives the shoes an exceptional degree of strength, durability and comfort in wear. The Goodyear welting process spans several production departments, each necessitating a multitude of different skills and experiences to ensure the shoes are completed to our exacting standards. Many of the operations, relying on excellent hand-eye coordination, take years to learn, and a lifetime to master. Crockett & Jones campaign JJ: High-quality materials, skilled labour, consistency through our management and continuity through thoughtful product development. JJ: There are many, the most important fundamentals of shoemaking, that have the biggest, and maybe lesser-known impacts on customers are leather quality — the quality of the leather we are using is second to none. We source our calf leather from the best tanneries in Europe, some of whom we have been dealing with for more than 50 our fit, the shoes and boots fit extremely well and are often regarded as comfortable from the first wear. These are the tried and tested reasons why many of our customers continue to return to Crockett & Jones time and again, and repeat business remains the foundation of our company's strength. There are, of course, other design details that one could highlight but the true value of our shoes lies in the materials and the fit. Crockett & Jones campaign JJ: Sustainability is a broad subject that companies can approach from many different perspectives. We believe the Crockett & Jones ethos is inherently sustainable. There are a few reasons why we consider our shoes to be more sustainable than much of the footwear around today. Materials: In our opinion, you can only produce high quality shoes by utilising and fully understanding high quality materials. All of the leathers used in the production of Crockett & Jones shoes are a by-product of the meat industry which, if not used, would be waste. By utilising high quality, natural materials in the production of our shoes we ensure they age well, in accordance with their owners! Crockett & Jones heritage shot Repairable: One of the benefits of owning a pair of Goodyear welted shoes is that you can have them re-soled without damaging the uppers, thereby prolonging their lifespan for many years. Think of it as giving your footwear a second lease of life! Timeless Product Development: As a family run business, Crockett & Jones is not at the mercy of shareholder pressure or growth driven strategies, and we do not overproduce our products or flood the market with seasonal changes. Sustaining our production to meet the demand from sales is a balancing act that requires great skill and even greater knowledge. Continually studying sales data to understand customer demand in turn minimises seasonal wastage, and reduces product discounting. The result of the above is a collection of footwear that truly stands the test of time with 'longevity', a word seldom used in 'fashion', at its core. Consumers have a responsibility to 'buy less and buy better.' Thinking of the long-term and sending shoes back to be repaired and rejuvenated is the right approach for the future. Crockett & Jones campaign JJ: We have participated in three James Bond films; the first one being Skyfall in which we had four C&J shoes featured. The styles were chosen for the films in collaboration with the Eon Production team together with input from Daniel Craig who was familiar with our collection. Crockett & Jones campaign JJ: We are great believers in maintaining continuity. Whilst we are operating in times when newness and marketing image is considered important, our loyalty comes from the consistency of workmanship, design, collections and service that we provide. Crockett & Jones remains committed to producing timeless, stylish and wearable classics. We consciously don't chop and change our product collections thereby ensuring that customers are able to re-purchase their trusty pair of Boston in Dark Brown Suede or Connaught in Black Calf (that they may have loved for two, three or even four decades!) Choosing materials and colorways that stand the test of time means that styles like our Coniston Derby Boots in Tan Scotch Grain, perhaps purchased in the mid-90s, remain as up to date today as the date they left our factory. However, as an example of evolution, Coniston is now available in additional versions including Dark Brown Scotch Grain, the very popular Dark Brown Rough-Out Suede and Black Rough-Out Suede with a lightweight, chunky rubber sole - a very different aesthetic from the original but still Coniston. Crockett & Jones campaign JJ: With the global trend for casual dressing and sneakers becoming mainstream, the market for traditional craft made shoes is gradually reducing. However this will create opportunities for the remaining high-quality makers of traditional leather shoes when trends change and demand recovers. We think high quality shoes like ours, that last and look better over time, will be even more valued and appreciated in the future. There is potential for us to therefore attract more customers and increase our distribution around the world. It's always a challenge to maintain the high standards of our shoe making, but satisfying to know how much our customers appreciate the finished product! Crockett & Jones campaign
