Noel Gallagher admits Irish mother Peggy tried to sort out brothers' bitter feud

Irish Daily Mirror12 hours ago
Noel Gallagher opened up to the late Gay Byrne about his row with his brother Liam, saying his mother Peggy tried to sort out their bitter feud.
The Gallagher brothers are notorious for the public feuds which shattered Oasis and caused the band to split in 2009.
But in an interview with Gay Byrne, Noel revealed their mother Peggy tried her best to get the brothers back talking again.
In October 2012, Noel joined the late RTE star for a chat on his show, The Meaning of Life.
Asked by Gay if their mother Peggy tried to resolve their feud, Noel said: "Oh, yeah of course but she'd never take sides.
"Liam doesn't have a phone because he's always losing them. You always have to text his missus' phone and we were never a Christmas Day kind of family anyway."
Asked if he missed him, he said: "No I don't. I'm not that kind of person… I'm not wistful, I'm not nostalgic and if I hear Oasis songs on the radio, I don't think 'Oh wouldn't it be great'.
"Evidently it would be great but you know I am always one for just moving onwards."
After that interview, Noel played Croke Park that evening in 2012. Oasis band members Noel and Liam Gallagher at Wembley in 2008, shortly before they split up (Image: Zak Hussein/PA Wire)
Asked if he felt nervous about playing Croke Park, he said: "I've never felt nervous. In Oasis I always just used to feel a little bit anxious because you never quite knew what Liam was going to do.
"He could walk on stage and walk straight past the mic and think 'I'm not into it tonight' for whatever reason."
But Liam previously said that he didn't leave Oasis and blamed Noel for the fallout.
"I didn't leave Oasis," Liam Gallagher told Radio X at one point.
"Noel Gallagher left Oasis. He couldn't handle the vibes any more. He couldn't handle the rock 'n' roll. He was too scared of it. So now he's gone all cosmic pop and Leo Sayer."

Watch: Peter Crouch legs it from TNT desk to catch Oasis in Dublin

The Premier League may have begun this weekend but all anyone can think about in Ireland is Oasis playing in Dublin tonight. The band continue their reunion tour in Croke Park as they are set to perform in front of two sold-out crowds this weekend in the first shows in Ireland since 2009. It's been the hottest ticket in town for a while now and it's been a much sought after one as no one wants to miss the Gallagher brothers reunite, including Premier League legend Peter Crouch. Peter Crouch. Pic: Neal Simpson/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images The ex-Liverpool man was on the job for TNT Sports as one of his former sides Aston Villa took on Newcastle United in both sides' opening game of the Premier League season. It wasn't a game to write home about as despite Ezri Konsa getting a straight red card for the Villains, neither side really had many chances in what was a drab 0-0 at Villa Park. It was still however a good point for Newcastle, who are still in the midst of the Alexander Isak transfer debacle as the Swede is looking to leave Tyneside for Liverpool. Pic: @footballontnt/ X After all the post-match festivites and interviews the TNT broadcast was coming towards an end when Peter Crouch started to look a bit nervy, especially when host Lynsey Hipgrave teased that they could go on for a but longer. Hipgrave said; 'That's about all we've got time for, oh actually sorry my producer is just telling me we have got a lot more time, he said we can carry on talking.' Crouch replied; 'Lynsey, you know I'm going to Oasis tonight, it's not happening.' Pic: @footballontnt/X Hipgrave questioned Crouch 'Where you going?' But Crouch had no time for any messing around, revealing he was heading to Dublin to see Oasis. 'I'm going to Oasis, I've got a flight to catch'

'We all called her Rose. I'm not able... pray for Rose' KIND STAR 'I'm not able', cries RTE star Kathryn Thomas as she shares heartwarming gesture amid hectic Rose of Tralee prep RTE star Kathryn Thomas has shared the heartfelt gesture she made to a rescue kitten ahead of the Rose of Tralee. The TV star has had a hectic few days, after her holiday in Greece ended in disaster as she prepared to come home to co-host the Rose of Tralee festival. 3 Kathryn made an unexpected stop en route to Kerry Credit: Instagram 3 Kathryn was heading to Tralee to host the annual Rose of Tralee festival Credit: Instagram Advertisement While on the road, Kathryn came across a tiny white and grey kitten that had been injured and desperately needed help. Kathryn shared a photo of the kitten lying across the backseat of her car and on top of her notes for the festival. She wrote: "Picked up this poor little angel on the motorway roundabout with cars literally driving over her. "She couldn't move and it looked like her back legs were broken." Advertisement She explained how she couldn't bear to leave the little one alone and desperately attempted to find it some help. Kathryn continued: "Googled Tralee vets, rang one who refused to take her and then rang Abbey Veterinary Centre on Church St, who told me to bring her in. "She peed and what all over my Rose of Tralee briefs on the way there, but vet Deirdre Cremins, the angel that she is, thinks she has a chance. "All the staff were so lovely as I had to run but said they'd keep me updated. We all called her Rose. I'm not able... pray for Rose." The Meadowlands team placed a rail for Kathryn's outfits in the room and also left a packet of Blu Tack so she could stick all her notes about the Roses on the wardrobe. Hours after dropping off the ailing kitten, Kathryn shared a heartwarming update on the feline's condition. Sharing a gorgeous photo of the kitten, she wrote: "A little pic of Rose from Deirdre at Abbey Veterinary centre this morning. Earlier last week, ahead of her stint on the national broadcaster hosting the Rose of Tralee, Kathryn shared a terrifying update with her fans. The former Operation Transformation host had been enjoying a sun-soaked family trip in Greece over the past week - but disaster struck when it was time to pack up and go home. Kathryn and her husband Padraig McLaughlin had been staying on Andros island with their two daughters, Grace and Ellie. Advertisement TRAVEL TROUBLE Andros can only be reached by boat transport, and the closest airport is Athens, which is a 2-hour ferry. As the TV star and her family set off to get home to Ireland, they quickly realised the boat could not sail as winds on the sea were dangerous. The 45-year-old told fans on Instagram: "All ferries to Athens are cancelled due to unprecedented high winds and we've now missed our flight." The Carlow native expressed her panic as she added: "Nobody could tell us for certain when the ferries would run again... an absolute nightmare."

Price of a pint of beer for Oasis at Croke Park confirmed

Oasis have arrived in Ireland to play two sold-out shows in front of what promises to be a buzzing Croke Park crowd. More than 80,000 'mad fer it' fans will attend each concert on Saturday and Sunday (August 16 and 17), which have been marked by the band's now traditional drone show above the venue ahead of this weekend's festivities. A pint of Guinness at Croke Park for the shows will cost punters €7.35, while a Rockshore pint will set you back €8. Cider is the same at €8 a pop, while a 187ml of red, white or rose wine costs €9. Drink prices at Croke Park So far, the reunion tour has broken an array of records, with its Wembley Stadium leg notching a particularly important gong. Oasis fans set a new record for England's national stadium by drinking an average of 250,000 pints across each of their five nights there. To do so, attendees parted with some serious cash, with a pint of Stella Artois at the venue bars setting customers back £7.85 (approximately €9.10) while a Magners Cider was priced at £7.75 (approximately €9). Elsewhere, at the more recent Murrayfield Stadium concerts, a pint of Heineken amounted to £7.85(approximately €9.10), with a half pint of the lager costing £4.30 (approximately €5). Amstel was a little cheaper, at £7.50 (approximately €8.70), and a full pint of Inch's cider cost the same. Heineken 0% was available, and at a slightly cheaper price of £6 (approximately €6.95), with a gluten-free lager option valued at £7 (approximately €8.10). Back in the brothers' home city of Manchester, during their Heaton Park gigs, pints of both Brooklyn Pilsner and Brothers Apple Cider set fans back £6.50 apiece (approximately €7.50), considerably cheaper than the first two comeback performances at Cardiff's Principality Stadium. There, a pint of Heineken cost £8.20 (approximately €9.50), as did a Dark Fruits, Strongbow or Murphy's.
