Hulu's Best New Show Arrives With A Surprising 100% Critic Score

Forbes06-04-2025

Handmaid's Tale
Hulu may not be top of mind when we're talking about some of the best shows in streaming all that often, and when we do, it's all its FX-linked programming. I'd say Only Murders in the Building is the main exception here. But now there's another series racking up a perfect critic score in what will be its final season, about to air this week.
That would be The Handmaid's Tale, which will return April 8 for its sixth and final season. It's the one that has gotten this perfect 100% score with a dozen or so critics having seen it already, and that's higher than it's ever been, even more so than the groundbreaking season 1 back when this was one of the most talked-about series of 2017. We can compare all those scores below:
Handmaid's Tale
Well, I was wondering why this series fell out of favor and essentially everyone stopped talking about it, and I think it's pretty clear why from those figures. Critic scores dipped, but not that much, but audience scores absolutely crashed as the series went on. I legitimately thought that the series ended when (spoilers) the Commander was killed back in season 4 in 2021, but apparently that was not the case. It looks like I shouldn't have stayed around for season 5, given those audience scores. I did feel like the show got worse in time, but that's a pretty stunning figure.
The show just has zero buzz anymore when back in season 1 and even 2 it was the talk of the town. The only time I hear it brought up anymore is conceptually, as a reference to Donald Trump's policies like his influence in getting Roe V. Wade overturned, for one, through the Supreme Court.
The question now is A) if these 100% scores will stick or drop when more critic reviews come in and B) if audiences will return for the finale and stop hating the show like they have for apparently the last few seasons. I would normally say this may be some sort of 'woke/DEI' culture review bombing, but I don't think so because the show is so low-profile now I don't know who would bother. But we'll see how the final season goes starting on Tuesday.

Selena Gomez's sister loves 'auntie' Taylor Swift

Selena Gomez has joked her sister loves her "auntie" Taylor Swift more than her. The Only Murders in the Building star's younger sibling, Gracie Teefey, turned 12 on Thursday (12.06.25) and though the 32-year-old star loves spending time with the youngster, Selena admitted the tween is far more interested in her good friend. Selena shared a video on her Instagram Story, in which she sat on a bed while Gracie was by a TV, and when the youngster hit the remote, Taylor's video for The Man began to play. Gracie told her sister: 'There, now we can watch the video too." Selena captioned the clip: 'When she loves auntie Taylor more than me.' The Lose You To Love Me singer also shared a carousel of photos of herself and Gracie over the years and she couldn't help but shed a tear over their bond. She wrote: 'Happy birthday to my baby sissy. As I cry writing this, my heart melts because I know you know I'm always on your side. No matter what. I love you baby girl [heart emojis] (sic)" Selena and Taylor, 35, first met in 2008 when dating Nick and Joe Honas respectively, and they very quickly became friends. Taylor previously told The Wall Street Journal in 2020: 'I knew from when I met [Selena] I would always have her back. 'In my life, I have the ability to forgive people who have hurt me. But I don't know if I can forgive someone who hurts her.' And Selena, 32, told how they "clicked instantly" She said: 'That was my girl. We both went through s*** at the same time. She taught me a lot about how I should be treated at a young age.' Selena previously praised Taylor as "one of the greatest songwriters" when she ran through some of the songs on her 'At Home with Selena Gomez' playlist, which included her friend's hit track Lover. Of the song, she said: "There's nothing really to say other than this is another song that shows her ability to take it back to the old, to also combine it with her challenging to do new things with her music. I think that's as pure as that - I'll always, not even biased, just think she is one of the greatest songwriters."

Trump doesn't know if he's the hero or villain in 'Les Mis.' How ironic.

Trump doesn't know if he's the hero or villain in 'Les Mis.' How ironic. | Opinion Sending the military in to quell protests is more aligned with the French monarchy than the revolutionaries. Show Caption Hide Caption Trump met with boos, cheers before Les Misérables at Kennedy Center President Donald Trump attended "Les Miserables" at the Kennedy Center after overhauling its leadership and naming himself chairman. On June 11, President Donald Trump appeared at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for the opening night of 'Les Misérables.' If you're at all familiar with the musical, you'll understand why that's so ironic. Trump staged a hostile takeover of the Kennedy Center back in February, changing up the board and making himself chairman of the iconic performing arts venue. It led several artists to cancel performances. According to The New York Times, some 'Les Misérables' cast members had considered boycotting the Wednesday performance that kicked off the summer 2025 season. The president, oblivious as always, says the show is 'great.' Ever the musical theater fan, he has used one of the most recognizable songs from 'Les Mis' at multiple rallies over the years. You know, the one the cast sings on the eve of revolting against the monarchy? Surely the man who has inspired nationwide 'No Kings Day' protests understands how laughable that is. Does Trump identify with hero or villain of 'Les Mis'? He doesn't know. If you're unfamiliar with the musical, let me give you a rundown. Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, the story follows Jean Valjean after he leaves prison for stealing a loaf of bread for his starving relatives. After an interaction with a priest, he is inspired to live a better life, which includes adopting and raising a child named Cosette after her mother dies. The musical is set during a French revolution that culminates in the 1832 June Rebellion, where a group of student revolutionaries known as the Friends of the ABC try to lead the city into revolt. These are the students Republican leaders would want to deport. Opinion: Trump supporters, this is what you're cheering as his deportation scheme unfolds Apparently, despite his love of the musical, Trump doesn't know if he's the hero or villain of this story. He told The Washington Post he wasn't sure if he identified more with Valjean or Javert, the prison guard turned inspector who is obsessed with bringing Valjean to justice. It's an ironically indecisive thing to say, considering he has sent military troops to Los Angeles to quell protests against raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and has spent much of the past few months raging against students protesting for Palestine. It's hard to picture Trump as the hero of this story. That would require him learning how to be a more caring person over time. Given his rhetoric on immigrants, trans people and basically anyone who disagrees with him, I doubt he's experienced that kind of transformation. Imagine treating immigrants like they stole bread Art has always been part of protest and resistance. The theater is no exception. These forms of expression can also be used as propaganda. With Trump's declaration that the Kennedy Center's "woke" programming is done for, it seems that only tolerable art will make it through the vetting process. Somehow, "Les Mis" slipped through the cracks, likely because Trump actually likes the musical. Opinion: I told you GOP would come for marriage. Southern Baptists just proved my point. If Trump actually paid attention to the songs and themes of "Les Mis," maybe he'd realize that his desire to lay down the law is more aligned with Javert than anyone else in the show. Maybe he'd realize that sending the military to quell protests is more aligned with the actions of the French monarchy than those of the revolutionaries. Maybe he'd realize that he has more in common with the monarchy than the people. Probably not. But maybe. Follow USA TODAY columnist Sara Pequeño on X, formerly Twitter, @sara__pequeno

Donald Trump Makes Outrageous Claim About Taylor Swift

President Donald Trump is catching major heat for his latest blunt take on Taylor Swift. 'Has anyone noticed that, since I said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she's no longer 'HOT?'' the President of the United States wrote via his Truth Social platform on Friday, May 16. Trump, 78, was referencing his September 2024 all-caps statement, during which he declared, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!" While it was unclear at the time what prompted the president's bold remark against the 35-year-old pop star, she had previously spoken out against Trump multiple times. In November 2024, a little less than two months after Trump's initial Truth Social post, Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president in the election. As for Trump's most recent post, fans immediately began hitting back at the controversial president. "Has anyone noticed that literally no one gives a fuck abt donald trump's opinion on taylor swift?" one person wrote via X, paraphrasing the beginning of Trump's own message. "Taylor's breaking records, you're breaking down. Stay pressed," another user commented. "why is this mf still hurting omg. teenage boy getting rejected by his crush behavior," a third person posted. "he has talked more about taylor than america itself atp talk about obsession," another fan claimed. Most recently, Trump cracked a joke about the 14-time Grammy winner during the Philadelphia Eagles visit to the White House last month, two months after they won the 2025 Super Bowl. "I watched in person. I was there along with Taylor Swift. How did that work out?" he quipped during the meeting. "How did that one work out?" Swift, who was booed at the event, was on hand to watch boyfriend Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs take on the Eagles. The Eagles won 40-22.
