RUHS hosp performs first angioplasty procedure, expands advanced cardiac services
The procedure was successfully completed. The patient is showing positive recovery signs, and the treatment was provided without cost under the Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya (MAA) Scheme, said a hospital official.
Medical education secretary Ambrish Kumar said RUHS Hospital began offering angiography and angioplasty services from June 2, with two angiographies performed initially.
Kumar explained that RUHS Hospital is expanding its medical services to decrease the patient load at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital while providing advanced medical facilities to state residents. The introduction of angiography and angioplasty services means cardiac patients can now receive treatment at RUHS Hospital instead of travelling all the way to SMS Hospital. This development offers an additional treatment centre for cardiac patients across the state and helps reduce the patient load at SMS Hospital.
The hospital has also commenced plastic surgery services.

‘Child scratched by stray turned away by hosp due to lack of rabies vaccine'
New Delhi: Barely three days after the Supreme Court directed authorities to ensure immediate treatment for dog-bite victims and maintain adequate anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) stocks, a 22-month-old girl scratched on both thighs by a stray dog was allegedly turned away from the Delhi govt-run Dr Hedgewar Aarogya Sansthan on Thursday night due to unavailability of the vaccine. The child's father, Munna Kumar, a resident of Radhey Shyam Park in Krishna Nagar, told TOI that earlier in the day, his daughter was playing outside her relative's home in Noida, near Sector 78, when a stray dog attacked her. "She was scratched on both legs. We rushed to Hedgewar Hospital in Karkardooma around 9pm, but the doctors said they didn't have the vaccine and asked us to go to another hospital," he alleged. The note further read: "Injection ARV N/A and refer to any govt hospital for ARV inj." Kumar said they then rushed to Delhi govt-run Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where staff told them to return in the morning. "It was already late at night, and we were worried about delaying the treatment, but they said the vaccine would be given only the next day," he said. The child was finally administered the first dose of ARV at GTB Hospital on Friday morning — nearly half a day after the attack — and her father was asked to return on Aug 18 for the second dose. According to a senior official of Hedgewar Hospital, "The demand was raised almost three months ago with the central procurement agency, and we are still waiting for the supply. We are expecting it next week." When contacted, a senior GTB Hospital official said they were unaware of the matter but would look into why the vaccine was not administered at night, adding that anti-rabies vaccines are available round-the-clock. In its Aug 11 order, SC had emphasised that civic agencies must capture and house stray dogs in shelters within 6-8 weeks, sterilise and vaccinate them, and — most crucially — ensure bite victims receive "immediate treatment". The court also directed that vaccine availability data be made public and helplines be created for bite cases. Thursday's incident highlights the gap between the apex court's directives and ground realities. The lack of ARV at Hedgewar Hospital, forcing the child's family to travel to another facility to get the lifesaving injection, underscores the urgent need for real-time stock monitoring across all hospitals. ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat' campaign: A slew of anti-drug rallies held in Mysuru, surrounding regions
A number of anti-drug rallies have been conducted in Mysuru and surrounding regions since the last few days as part of the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' campaign. On Wednesday, at least two such events were conducted, one in Mysuru and another in Mandya, to draw public attention to the scourge of drug addiction and substance abuse among the youth. In Mandya, Deputy Commissioner Kumar inaugurated the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2025' organised by the Mandya district police. He said that drug abuse has emerged as one of the biggest challenges to the nation's development, and every citizen must resolve to stay away from narcotic substances to help address this problem. Mr. Kumar emphasised that the greatest social responsibility of all is to ensure that the youth do not fall prey to drugs, and to help rehabilitate those already addicted to it. He also drew a correlation between drug addiction and an increase in crime rate, and said that a review of registered criminal incidents in the district revealed that a significant proportion of it stemmed from substance abuse. The Mandya Deputy Commissioner called upon the public to work with the police to rid society of drugs, stressing that this responsibility rests on everyone. Addressing students in particular, Mr. Kumar urged them to take it upon themselves to reform and guide those in their colleges, families, and neighbourhoods who have developed tendencies of drug abuse. Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, in his address, observed that many young people and workers in the country have become slaves to harmful habits, thereby ruining their promising futures. The main objective of the campaign was to raise awareness in universities, higher educational institutions, and schools about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Mandya Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K. R. Nandini administered a pledge to the students to stay away from drug abuse. Hanumant Prasad, principal, Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, and others were present. Mysuru, which witnessed two rallies on Tuesday, organised by the Sarada Vilas Pharmacy College and ABVP, saw school and college children taking out a procession as part of the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2025' on Wednesday. The rally was organised by former corporator Suhail Baig, and the procession, which commenced from Mission Hospital circle (Dr. Zakir Hussain Circle), made its way through Sawday Road, Savoy Chowk, Meena Bazaar and culminated at St. Philomena's Church Circle. Karnataka Exhibition Authority chairperson and former mayor Ayub Khan, and others were present.
