There are political reasons and other reasons also. But why are you targeting Bengali-speaking people?"Banerjee said that the Bengali migrant workers could go anywhere to work. "While Bangladesh is a neighbouring country, why will you say that people talking in Bengali are Bangladeshis? Rohingyas are from Myanmar. How can they learn Bengali?" BJP has been alleging that Rohingyas have entered Bengal from Bangladesh and their names have been enrolled in the voter list, with the help of Trinamool Congress Attacking the BJP-led government at the Centre, she said that caste, creed and religion cannot be reason for deleting names from a voter list. "Those who are Indian citizens and are voters of Bengal will vote here. Why will you discriminate against the voters of Bengal on basis of caste, creed and religion," Banerjee questioned. "A notification says that Bengali-speaking people will be deported. Our migrant workers are skilled. In India, one can travel anywhere," she said.On X, Trinamool wrote, "Bengalis are being detained, branded as 'outsiders', and even deported while carrying valid documents in hand. From NRC notices to map erasure, the attacks aren't random, they're deliberate. Red flag will fly high for eternity, says CPI leader

The Red Flag representing the Communist movement will fly high in the sky for eternity, as long as there is oppression, the cry for justice will be heard, said Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary K. Ramakrishna. Participating at the city-level convention in Tirupati as part of the party's centenary celebrations in India, the CPI leader spoke about the perennial relevance of the Leftist movement. 'The Red Flag remains a ray of hope for the country's future. The people-oriented parties will join hands with the Communists in the days to come to put an end to the fascist rule,' Mr. Ramakrishna said. 'The Leftist movement in India is still a force to reckon with today, because of the sacrifices in the freedom movement and enduring sufferings for the sake of the downtrodden. The BJP-led NDA government is bent on benefitting the capitalists, trampling upon the rights of the citizens and making a mockery of the Constitution,' Mr. Ramakrishna alleged. Taking a jibe at the 'double engine growth', he said it has pushed the country into debts instead of propelling growth. The party leader faulted the State government-led by N. Chandrababu Naidu for failing to implement the 'Super Six' schemes and in the same vein, flayed the former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for trying to foment trouble by inciting his cadre to resort to violence.

Right-wing group storms Ghaziabad eateries over sale of meat during Sawan

Members of the right-wing Hindu Raksha Dal on Thursday (July 17, 2025) stormed a KFC outlet in Ghaziabad, demanding a ban on the sale of non-vegetarian food during the Hindu month of Sawan. A similar protest was staged outside a neighbouring outlet of local eatery chain Nazir, leading to the temporary closure of both establishments. Visuals of the incident circulated widely on social media showed members of the outfit carrying saffron flags and chanting slogans such as 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Har Har Mahadev', while forcibly pulling down the shutter of the KFC outlet. In the video, the group is seen entering the restaurant, confronting staff, and demanding that operations be stopped. 'All of these products should be banned immediately, we will not tolerate this in Sawan,' a protester is heard shouting. Consumer panel says Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the incident, holding it responsible for what they termed a deterioration in law and order. 'Such actions are a violation of the fundamental rights of citizens. When there is no ban, how can individuals storm a food chain and force it to shut down? It is a design to create disorder in society through groups that have become mainstream after the BJP assumed power. Holy occasions are being used to fuel tension on communal lines,' Shahnawaz Alam, national secretary, Congress, said. VIDEO | Abhishek Srivastava, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Indirapuram, says, "A few youths created ruckus demanding a food outlet to close. Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot immediately and removed them. Normal operation at the outlet was ensured. 'If the BJP or right-wing groups want a ban on meat sales, they should ask the government to close slaughterhouses and prohibit the sale of meat across India for one month during Sawan. Half of the slaughterhouses are run by BJP-linked people. Such unruly action in closing a food chain highlights a failure of governance,' party spokesperson Sunil Singh Yadav 'Sajan' said. The incident also triggered debate on social media, with many users criticising the actions of the protestors. Sawan, also known as Shravana, is considered a holy month in the Hindu calendar, particularly by devotees of Lord Shiva. Many observe fasts and refrain from consuming meat, alcohol, and even onion and garlic during this period. The Kanwar Yatra, a major pilgrimage, is also undertaken during this time.

CM should hand over reigns to a BC: Ramchander Rao

Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao demanded Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's resignation from his post, and asked him to make a person from the BC community as the CM if he is really committed towards their welfare. Addressing party workers at several places in Medak, during his tour on Friday, Mr. Ramchander Rao said that the onus is on the Congress Government to ensure 42% quota for BCs is implemented in the local body polls. BJP has voted in favour of the BC quota bill in the Assembly and offered support for the purported ordnance but the Congress Government has been spreading false information about the Centre not accepting the quota plea, he claimed. He questioned if the ruling party was not aware of the legal complications of having 10% for Muslims from within the BC quota as it would adversely affect the latter and reiterated the party's opposition to reservations based on religion. Vote bank politics was behind the move, maintained the BJP chief. The former MLC said it was the BJP which has set up the National BC Commission and more than 20 ministers in the Union Cabinet including Prime Minister Modi hail from the Backward Class communities. Expressing confidence in winning a majority of seats in local body elections, he said the people were itching to teach a lesson to the Congress government for failing to implement the promised guarantees to various sections of the people including farmers, students and others. The governance in the state has come to a standstill with the Chief Minister confined to Delhi visits. Mr. Ramchander Rao claimed that the party has successfully spread its tentacles from urban to village level and hoped that people would give a chance to party in the next assembly elections. Earlier, Medak MP M. Raghunandan Rao, district party president Mallesh and other leaders accorded a warm welcome when he reached Narsapur as part of his district tour.
