The Four Seasons: Tina Fey and Steve Carell lead Netflix's remake of Alan Alda's 1981 comedy

Express Tribune02-05-2025
Netflix's latest original series The Four Seasons offers a contemporary reimagining of the 1981 film of the same name, blending comedy and drama in a reflective look at long-standing friendships and evolving relationships.
Created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, the eight-episode miniseries debuted on 1 May and is now streaming.
The story follows six friends—three married couples—who meet up four times a year for weekend getaways. Over time, cracks begin to show in their long-held routines, leading to moments of reflection, tension, and emotional recalibration.
While the new series retains the core dynamic of the original, it expands character arcs and deepens emotional storytelling, offering viewers a more immersive and nuanced experience.
Fey stars alongside Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, and Erika Henningsen, forming a strong ensemble that brings decades of performance experience.
Alan Alda, the original film's writer, director and lead, also makes a brief appearance, signalling his endorsement of the update.
"I've always loved this movie since I was a kid," said Tina Fey in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "A series like this where you can really just expand things and take your time a little bit more felt like a perfect way to hang out with these characters a little bit longer."
The Four Seasons is now streaming on Netflix.

Kit Connor teases steamy scene in Heartstopper movie preview with Louis Partridge

Actor Kit Connor has given fans an early glimpse into the Heartstopper movie, sharing a mix of humor and candor about life on set. Speaking with fellow actor Louis Partridge in an interview for VMAN 55, Connor revealed that the production has already included both physically demanding and emotionally charged moments. 'I was doing rugby training today … [I'm always doing] some kind of throwing myself on the ground,' Connor explained, describing the intense athletic rehearsals. He then added with a laugh, 'We shot quite a steamy scene yesterday. So again, throwing myself on the ground in a different way.' Connor, best known for his role as Nick Nelson in Netflix's acclaimed LGBTQ+ coming-of-age series, is now reprising the character for the feature-length adaptation. His comments highlight the blend of athletic training, romance, and vulnerability that has defined the story since its debut. The discussion took place as part of Partridge's cover feature for VMAN's Fall 2025 issue. While the two reflected on sudden fame and career milestones, Connor also offered insight into what audiences can expect from the upcoming film. Partridge, meanwhile, spoke about his own projects, including Netflix's House of Guinness and Enola Holmes 3. Connor's remarks offer a rare behind-the-scenes perspective, suggesting that the film will carry forward the emotional intensity and authenticity that made the series a global hit. With production underway, anticipation is already building as fans await the moment Heartstopper makes its leap from small screen success to cinematic storytelling.

Emily's wardrobe grows up

Lily Collins poses in two styles of her fresh wardrobe which will feature in the upcoming Season 5 of Netflix's Emily in Paris. Photo Courtesy: Lily Collins-Instagram Fans of Netflix's Emily in Paris are already buzzing with anticipation for Season 5, and recent filming across Paris, Rome and Venice has given the first tantalising glimpse into Lily Collins' fresh wardrobe and evolving style as Emily Cooper. The paparazzi were out in force during filming on the streets of Paris and later in Rome, capturing Collins in outfits that reflect a notable shift in Emily's fashion sensibilities. The vibrant, mismatched prints that defined her early days in the City of Lights have seemingly given way to a more polished, Parisian-inspired look. Costume designer Marilyn Fitoussi, who has been responsible for Emily's bold ensembles since the beginning, appears to have steered the character into more elegant territory, suggesting a maturation not only in Emily's style but perhaps in her personal journey as well. In Paris, Collins was photographed wearing a vivid red three-piece suit paired with a long leather coat. Accessorised with silver sculptural hoops and a bold silver ring, the look exuded sophistication without abandoning Emily's trademark flair for bold colours. Another scene featured Collins in a fitted navy Victoria Beckham dress, accompanied by a yellow gold rectangular link chain bracelet, echoing contemporary and vintage '70s jewellery trends. Sporting a new bobbed haircut, Collins carried the refined look effortlessly. Filming in Rome presented another layer of glamour. Collins was seen in a strapless floral-print dress paired with Aurelie Bidermann malachite drop earrings, embracing a high-fashion aesthetic in contrast to some of her earlier, more whimsical ensembles. The show has long nodded to iconic screen style moments, particularly those of Audrey Hepburn. Season 4 saw tributes to Hepburn's roles in Charade and Roman Holiday, alongside references to Funny Face. Speculation is already swirling over whether Season 5 will echo Sabrina or Breakfast at Tiffany's, further cementing Emily's evolving look as a blend of timeless chic and contemporary flair. Beyond Paris and Rome, filming has also taken Collins and the cast to Venice. The actress shared behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram captioned "A very Venetian getaway," highlighting the blend of work and play that filming the series often brings. On a water taxi ride, Collins sported a whimsical tomato-print sundress by HVN, illustrated with pasta motifs. The look was completed with a chocolate-coloured bucket hat and oversized sunglasses. Later, she switched into a white polka-dot dress paired with black-and-white ballet flats, gold hoop earrings, and a lemon-illustrated paper fan, capturing the playful essence fans have come to expect. Another Venice shoot spotlighted one of the season's strongest style trends — polka dots. Collins was photographed in a striking black-and-white two-piece set, consisting of a calf-length flared skirt and a matching crop top. She accessorised with large gold hoop earrings while keeping her hair tied back to highlight the ensemble. In another scene, she wore Nina Ricci's polka-dot bustier mini dress, valued at $1,535, with diamond drop earrings and bold red lipstick. The timeless pattern, embraced this year by celebrities including Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams and Kylie Jenner, seems set to dominate the season's fashion narrative. Behind the glamour, the show's creators continue to emphasise Emily's lifestyle as justification for her extravagant wardrobe. Director Andrew Fleming explained that the character's luxurious fashion choices reflect her circumstances: "She's a young woman with disposable income... She spends her money on clothes. It's a passion. It's part of her mindset to be creative with what she wears." He acknowledged, however, that certain outfits pose challenges during filming, citing Emily's wide-brimmed fascinator from a Season 4 masquerade ball as an example of costumes that are both visually impactful and technically difficult to manage on set. The upcoming season follows Emily as she embarks on a new chapter in Italy with her love interest Marcello, portrayed by Eugenio Franceschini, while continuing to navigate her career and personal adventures. With production under way across Europe, audiences can expect a mix of elegance, whimsy, and high-fashion experimentation when Season 5 debuts. For now, Netflix has not announced a premiere date, leaving fans eagerly awaiting both the fashion revelations and the next stage of Emily Cooper's journey.

'KPop Demon Hunters 2' reportedly in development as Sony and Netflix negotiate sequel plans

KPop Demon Hunters has dominated Netflix for nearly two months, holding the number one spot worldwide and breaking streaming and music chart records. With such success, attention has now turned to a sequel, and major updates suggest KPop Demon Hunters 2 is already in motion. According to Puck, Sony Pictures Animation is in early talks with directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans to develop KPop Demon Hunters 2. While Netflix distributes the film, Sony holds production rights, meaning the studio controls negotiations on whether the sequel moves forward. Despite the first film's global success, Sony reportedly earned only around $20 million due to its deal with Netflix, making the financial arrangements of a second instalment a key focus. The original film cost $100 million to produce, and a follow-up is expected to be even more expensive, considering cast, singers and licensing. Another update comes from the cast itself. Arden Cho, who voices Rumi, told Variety that she hopes the sequel will revisit Jinu, her character's love interest. In the first film, Jinu sacrificed himself to save Rumi and the world, though Cho hinted that his fate could be reimagined through the fantasy setting. While no release window has been confirmed, the lengthy animation process means fans may wait several years, similar to the gaps between Sony's Spider-Verse films.
