‘Scandalous' Pamela Anderson drama she refused to watch is now free to stream

Daily Mirror4 days ago
Baywatch legend Pamela Anderson is returning to the big screen in a brand new comedy sequel just as a shocking drama about her life was made free to stream
A scandalous drama series about the early career of Baywatch star Pamela Anderson has recently been made free to watch.

Despite receiving critical acclaim, it generated intense backlash for its depiction of one of the most controversial showbiz stories of the 1990s and was blasted by Anderson herself, who refused to watch it.

As the beloved TV icon joins Liam Neeson in the long-awaited Naked Gun revamp, coming to cinemas next week, now's the perfect time for fans to remind themselves of Anderson's rise to superstardom.

As part of a new package deal with Disney+, the eight-part limited series Pam and Tommy is now available to stream completely free on ITVX, along with several other titles from the streamer's catalogue.
Chronicling Anderson's chaotic three-year marriage to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee (played by Sebastian Stan), the drama explores her identity as a sex symbol while her personal life comes under intense scrutiny when their intimate honeymoon video is illegally distributed across the United States.

While it received generally positive reviews from critics, particularly for its performances by Stan and Lily James, the star herself told Variety she refused to watch it and claims she deserves 'a public apology' from the team behind the series.
'It was shocking,' Anderson admitted. 'Tommy probably thought it was funny.
'I remember Tommy writing me a note saying, 'Don't let this hurt you like it did the first time,' because he had heard through the kids that I was kind of struggling with the idea of bringing this all up again.

'I don't think he was portrayed kindly. I just know that I refuse to watch it.'
Nevertheless, TV fans insist the series is an eye-opening watch despite the controversy.
A five-star Google review raved: 'When I first heard they were doing this I was skeptical but I Binged watched it twice!!

'It was Very Thought Provoking actually Quirky, upbeat, funny, emotional, dark and very well paced. All the characters were cast very well.'

Someone else defended the decision to tell the story: 'Even though this is not endorsed by PA herself as she feels this just victimizes her again and takes away her ability to tell her story, I really think the producers did a fair job in showing just how unjustly she was treated at the time.
'Although some of the events are not quite in order, timeline wise, it still shows how objectified she was at the time, and thus demoralized and dehumanized - and sadly how many famous women today are still treated this way!!!
'This was a cautionary tale of how some things still haven't changed.'

And another said: 'It's a shame Pam Anderson hated the series. If anything I think this series painted her as the only sympathetic character.
'In hindsight of #MeToo and women telling their stories, the fact that she went through any of this is shocking.'
Are you ready for a hearty dose of scandal or will you be giving this provocative biopic a miss?
Pam and Tommy is free to stream on ITVX.

George Lucas makes Comic-Con debut for Lucas Museum of Narrative Art

SAN DIEGO, July 27 (Reuters) - Excited fans waved glowing "Star Wars" lightsabers on Sunday at the San Diego Comic-Con panel for George Lucas' latest project, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Along with Lucas, the panel included director Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang, vice president of Disney's (DIS.N), opens new tab Lucasfilm, with Queen Latifah moderating at the San Diego Convention Center. Attendees shouted "Lucas! Lucas! Lucas!" and clapped their hands in anticipation of the "Star Wars" creator's arrival, and gave the 81-year-old Lucas a standing ovation as he took his seat. "Opening in 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a first-of-its-kind institution dedicated to illustrated storytelling across time, cultures, and media," a press release from the museum said. The 11-acre campus, in Exposition Park in Los Angeles, will include a green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, and retail and community spaces. Some of its collection will include art from comic book artist Jack Kirby, painter Norman Rockwell and illustrator Kadir Nelson, as well as a Lucas archive with models, props, concept art and costumes. "I love all art, no matter what it is," Lucas said after showing a video that gave a sneak peek at the museum. The video included renderings of the museum interior and exterior, as well as the museum's broad range of art ranging from more traditional fine art and comic book strips to "Star Wars" sculptures and installations. Lucas began the panel recalling his days as a college student struggling to pursue his dream of becoming an art collector due to the steep cost of fine art. But the filmmaker found an affordable exception with comic books, sold cheaply in "underground" markets. Now, rather than selling art he collected over around 50 years, Lucas said he prefers to create what he calls a "temple to the people's art." Lucas kept the conversation focused on the museum and did not discuss "Star Wars" or "Indiana Jones." For del Toro, the museum offers a visual past that belongs to everyone" and can't be erased, noting that he may move some of his personal art collection to the Lucas Museum. Part of the liberation that comes with narrative art for the "Pan's Labyrinth" director also means that art can't be made with a computer app, as it lacks "personality and knowledge."

Coronation Street favourite rushed to hospital during cast-packed wedding

You can't have a soap wedding without some kind of hiccup or obstacle – and Coronation Street are going all out to hit Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) and Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) with disaster on the big day – with the bride rushed to hospital after a collapse. Even before this calamitous end to the very glam and colourful ceremony, there are shenanigans aplenty. The week starts with the stag and hen parties. Having saved money buying cheap suits for Dev and Aadi, Bernie is having a low key hen do in the bistro when word reaches them that the boys have hired a pole dancer at the Rovers. A furious Bernie storms into the Rovers to find the stags cheering on the pole dancer, but is all as it seems? As the big day dawns on Wednesday (August 6th), Dev and Bernie's dream wedding goes from bad to worse when the quads fall ill and have to watch with Joseph on live stream. Meanwhile, Bernie forgets her lucky charm locket containing the photo of Paul and when she runs home to get it she disturbs a burglar. If Dev and Bernie's wedding falls apart, at least we might have another to look forward to. After such an eventful start to the day the guests take their seats for the main event and a glowing Bernie walks down the aisle towards Dev to make their vows. With the service about to start, Dev and Bernie share loving looks, but suddenly Bernie struggles to breathe and collapses in front of a shocked Dev. Is the dramatic day about to end in tragedy or will Bernie and Dev tie the knot? 'The day goes from bad to worse!' actress Jane exclaimed. 'That's what is so brilliant about Coronation Street, you don't know what you're going to get until you open the page of the script and that's what is so fantastic about how it plays out – we've got this woman raving down the aisle and the next minute she's collapsed and an ambulance is on its way!' More Trending Jane also revealed that she had a hand in the design of Bernie's unconventional wedding dress. She added: 'I knew that Bernie wouldn't go down the road of wearing a traditional dress. I had seen some old footage of Elkie Brookes on TV and she was wearing a kaftan. 'I am a big fan of Elkie so that was the initial inspiration, but this is for Bernie so it needed to be a bit extra. View More » 'Our fantastic talented costume department came up with the 1970s style white dress that is a bit Elkie Brookes, a bit Demis Roussos and very Bernie Winter.'
