Ryan has now returned nine years later after his on-screen mum, Sue Cleaver, announced her exit.
He says Eileen's departure from Weatherfield led him to decide now was the right time to make a comeback.
Ryan told Inside Soap: 'When they told me Eileen was leaving, it felt right to be a part of that storyline for her and revisit where it all started.'
After leaving the cobbles, Ryan spent a year appearing as Rafael Humphreys in the Australian soap Neighbours in 2018. He won Celebrity Big Brother in 2018 and Dancing on Ice in 2024.
And while he is no stranger to the soap world, the star admits he was nervous ahead of his Corrie return. He added, 'I couldn't sleep the night before I went back.
'Even though I'd been there half my life, I felt like the new kid in school. It took me half a day to get rid of the nerves.'

Rylan Clark and his beloved mum, Linda, clearly aren't letting her health woes interfere with their quality family time. The former X Factor star shared a series of updates with concerned fans last month when Linda, 73, was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital with a mystery illness.
